Fridays, Red and Green Show, The Jenny McCarthy Show, You Can't Do That On TV, Carol Burnett Show, Laugh-In, Mad TV, and so many more!!!
Who here like sketch comedy shows, and what are you favorites?
Use this for submitting transcripts from skits your friends hate hearing you describe, reciting favorite character lines, or whatever. "Hey look, it's flying pig!"
Anyone remember the Kids In the Hall episode where Scott Thompson can't find weed, and sells his soul to the devil to have weed in place of hair?

My two absolute favorite sketch comedy shows are:
SCTV, especially the early shows before Martin Short and before they went to cable. I still remember soooo many of their skits and the characters are just as memorable. They also did excellent film and movie spoofs. If you're fan, try to find Dave Thomas' book "SCTV: Behind The Scenes"
Kids In The Hall. Same as above, I know so many of their skits almost by heart. They also get a big http://www.joblo.com/ubb/icons/icon14.gif for having so many gay-oriented skits

I grew up watching "You Can't Do That on Television" on good ol' Nickelodeon. Ahhh, where Alanis Morrisette got her start.

My favorite is the British classic The Fast Show.
The humour is insane, like newsanchors reading the news in jibbrish, and sneaking in a few sensible words. Funny as hell though.
"Hi, I'm Ed Winchester".
Classic stuff, but you have to see it to find it funny.
How in the hell has this thread gone this far without mention of the single greatest sketch show of all time?
I speak, of course, of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
Classics like The Dead Parrot, The Cheese Shop, Argument Clinic, The Spainsh Inquisition, The Ministry of Silly Walks and Communist Quiz remain absolutely hysterical over 30 years on, I really can't imagine The Fast Show lasting that long.

Fawlty Towers was brilliant (especially The Germans episode) but not a sketch show.
My favorite is SNL.

I watch SNL on and off, it depends on the cast. My very favorite cast was the one in the early 90's with Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, and David Spade. The current cast, I think, is only so-so. So I watch only once in a while.
And did Will Ferrell really leave the show? That sucks!

Kids in the Hall is my favorite chunk of sketch comedy of all time. The humor is morbid and offbeat, the acting is top-notch (Mark McKinney being my personal favorite), and there aren't too many references to pop culture, which I find refreshing with SNL being chalked full of impersonations and mock TV shows. That's what really irks me about SNL. Since most of the skits are topical, they don't have much effect on someone my age who isn't too familiar with the social and economic climate of the late '80s/early '90s.
"Promise to bring my movies back?"
"Will do."
"Pa, what's that man doin' to my donkey?"
"I believe he's fucking it."
"Who is he?"
"I think it's Hitler."
"They stole my gazebo!"
"Not now, Murray!"
"How the hell was I supposed to know he was a hostage?"

Some of my favorite KITH sketches involve the Chicken Lade, only because the character herself was so bizarre.
"Do you love life? I thought you would because of my ad. Chicken lady loves LIFE!"
"I didn't take that literally... chicken lday."

I'd agree with SNL being topical. I can get into the 80's and 90's skits since I was there at the time, but I just can't get into the 70's. The skits with Dan Akroyd, Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, etc., etc., don't do anything for me at all, even though they are supposed to be "classics". They're just not funny to me.

I should also mention The State, which was on MTV for awhile, but was moved to CBS where it eventually flopped. It had that KITH quirkiness.

SCTV was an awesome show. My favorite sketch was Count Floyd, doing Monster Chiller Horror Theatre. Oooohhhh Scary! I also really enjoyed In Living Color.

Me too. Easily the most underrated sketch comedy show of all time. It sure didn't deserve to be cancelled like it was, but at least Amy (the most talented of the four) is still around on SNL...

Did anyone ever see EXIT 57 when it was on Comedy Central?
It wasn't as funny as it was just plain weird.
A stand out sketch they did was a guy narrating a wilderness story, and the whole narrative is falling apart.
It was an inspirational story about a man getting lost in the woods and finding a bad full of money. He can't use the money for anything.
"Then the man offers the money to a squirral in exchange for some berries. Okay then the man... And now they are showing the squirral again. I don't know why they are showing that. And then the man walks further into the woods. And then he goes... Okay, and then he is at a stream. When he gets to the stream he.. Okay, there's the squirral again. 'Stream," the man says...."
Hard to explain...

The thing I liked about Upright Citizen's Brigade was how they tried to make the show like one long sketch. That was neat.
Did anyone ever see Friday's it starred Michael Richards (Kramer on Seinfeld).

Looking over the posts, I'm surprised no one has mentioned another great sketch show... Mr. Show
