Well, this is my favorite show. I like it more than all the others, big time. I own the Compelte 1st Season on DVD and I have all 4 "Best of" tapes. I also own every episode of the show, It took me over a year to record them all, and 14 tapes to do it with.
This past season, season 8, I recorded every episode in order, without commericials. My only compliant with the show this season was the finale. Joey doesnt belong with Rachel, Ross does. I didn't like the end at all and I hope next season that they clear it up and that Rachel ends up marrying Ross, and Joey finally hooks up with Pheobe. How do the other schmoes think about this show and the season finale?

I love friends. I wanted to see Joey with Rachel before she had the baby but I do think she and Ross do belong together. It would be cool to see Pheobe and Joey hook up,you know the phrase "Birds of the feather flock together"

Yeah that season finale kinda bugged me too. I mean come on it's Ross and Rachel, not Joey and Rachel. I'd rather see him and Chandler get together http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif
So who's everyone's favorite friend. Mine has always been Chandler.

Must not like Phoebe to much if you cant spell her name right. Hehe.
My fav is Joey, mainly cuz he's so stupid its funny. Chandler is funny too but his jokes get old sometimes. Monica is a bitch, but likeable at times. Phoebe is a hoot. Ross is annoying and Rachel is sexy. Thats how I feel about everyone.

What did you guys think of the latest cliffhanger? (Where Joey "proposes" to Rachel) I thought it was bullshit..
Why cant Ross and Rachel get together already? Its like the writers are straining to think of lame twists to keep them apart. I personally would love seeing it. We all know there isnt much time left....im hoping that they'll give that tired issue some closure.

I think it's better to burn out than fade away. Too bad Friends have decided to fade. They've been on too long. But that's just my opinion.

Yeah, I agree. I dunno, they should have a season finale where everyone who's in love with everyone gets together, and some of them move from NYC, and that would be the end. Looks like the writers are running out of ideas anyway.

Friends is clever and witty, but it has always sickened me to a degree. It seems like one big exercise in superficiality. The characters have relationship problems all of the time, and that's all they're worried about. Nothing else exists, just petty relationship problems. Also, no one has at least five friends that are that attractive. Everything just seems so phony and synthetic to me. I apologize if I'm coming off as pretentious, but I had to get this off of my chest. Am I the only one who feels this way?

I agree with you, but I would also contend that since the 50's people have moved from sentimentality to superficiality (perhaps the better term would be a shift from idealism to realism). Its been a progressive move from one extreme to the other.. Of course people arent as superficial as the characters in friends, however, I believe that the comedy works well and is simplistic in that it exploits it and keeps it as its focus..

No offense, but how does superficiality on television equate with realism on television? I agree that society as a whole is mainly superficial, but the characters on Friends are miles away from realistic, in my eyes. None of the dialogue seems natural, and their personalities just don't feel "humanized." I hope that makes some sense. I'm not sure if I'm doing a good job of conveying my thoughts through words.

Ughh....I hate Ross...I have never liked the character at all and it would just be predictable if he and Rachel got back together.
Phoebe and Joey rock, they are far and away the funniest characters on the show.

Let's face it people, the best episode is where they throw the ball for the whole day...classic.

Everything was great until Chandler and Monica got together. Chandler went from this sarcastic, witty geeky guy to a romantic lead and it ruined the show. His jokes were the best part of the show. I hate using this term, but the show "jumped the shark".
I love downloading and watching old friends episodes, eg. TOW The Resolutions, TOW The Poker, etc. Most of season 2 through 5 are excellent. Now it seems to be more soap opera than comedy show and season 8 was very disappointing.
Great shows like Seinfeld never succumbed to having complex realtionship problems and sentimental scenes. Seinfeld remained funny at ALL times, even at really serious occasions like Susan's death. Thats how Friends should've stayed.
I'm a big enough fan to tune into season 9 and watch it all the way through. But I hope they get back on track and make the show as funny as it used to be.

My sentiments exactly. I don't watch sitcoms to become entangled in sappiness, I watch them to LAUGH. That's why Seinfeld and Married with Children are close to my heart. They don't bother with actual emotions.

Friends is the greatest show ever. I love all the characters equally. My favorite episode so far was the one where Ross had to give the old man a massage. (What's the name of that one?)
In my opionion, Seinfeld wasn't really that funny. All it was, was a show that was a comedy bit with characters. That's it. The definition of a sitcom is a situation comedy. Meaning you have to sometimes have sentimental values in order to make it a sitcom. Seinfeld was hardly a sitcom. It was a show about nothing. It was all Jerry Seinfeld talked about in his monologue played out with characters.
I think they did a really good job with Friends. Season 8 ended a little sucky, but I know they'll get Ross and Rachel together. If they don't I will never watch anymore re-runs again.
I do agree that Chandler has become less funny. He's more whiny now. I liked him before the whole London thing. I still like him but he's just not as funny.
Joey and Phoebe do make the show, but so does everyone else. They all make the show what it should be, and I respect the writers and the cast for that.

I love FRIENDS. Been with it from the beginning. Joey, Rachel and Phoebe have always been my favourite three. Monica grew on me and now shes one of my faves too. Chandler has been an iffy character for me, he is sometimes funny, but his gestures like the hand thing, where he holds his fingers out, and stuff like that. I have never liked Ross. He's too annoying, he is not nice, he yells too much, corrects people to much, he lectures, he is an asshole. But the show still rocks, and I dont really mind if Ross and Rachel dont get together, her and Joey are cool together. Friends rules, and im sad to know that next season is the last, but at least theres a whole other season left.
Some fave eps for each season:
First season - The one with Two Parts; The entrance of Ursula, George Clooney, Noah Wyle, lots of laughs.
The one with the Butt
The one with the Stoned Guy (Jon Lovitz)
Second season - The one with the Superbowl (Julia Roberts, Chandler in panties, Jean Claude van Damme, a psycho Brooke Shields, the catfight between Rach and Monica)
The one with the Prom Video (Classic stuff)
Third season - The one with the Flashback, The one with the Football, The one at The Beach.
Fourth season - The one with The Cat (Pheebs thinking her mother is back in cat form), The One With The Embryos (The boys vs. The Girls and Phoebe's Pregnany) and The one with All the Haste (The girls take their apartment back)
Fifth season - The one where everybody finds out (Monica and Chandler are found out), The One With The Ball (Rachel's new cat and where the gang throw a ball for a whole day)
Sixth season - The one where Phoebe runs (Pretty self explanatory) The one with Rachel's sister and The one where Chandler can't cry (Reese Witherspoon guest starring, and shutting Ross down, "How gay are you"), The one where Paul's the man (Bruce Willis as Rachel's new boyfriend)
Seventh season - The one where Rosita Dies (Joey and Rachel's new chair and Phoebe trying to save Jason Alexander from suicide), The one where They All Turn Thirty, The one with Joey's new Brain (Susan Sarandon guest starring), The one with the Truth About London (Rachel teaching Ben pranks), The one with Ross and Monica's Cousin (Denise Richards lasting effect on all)
Here in Australia the eight season hasnt finished up yet, but some of my faves were the Videotape one (Ross and Rachel's love making), the Rumour (Brad Pitt) and the date between Joey and Rachel.

Has anyone seen the spoof commercial of Friends that was on SNL? I thought it was really funny. It had the narrater voice talking while it showed footage from Friends... "On Season 9 of Friends--what will Ross do when he finds out about Rachel and Joey? Who will he trust? Who is the one person he can turn to??....Monica. Ross and Rachel, Rachel and Joey, Joey and Phoebe, Monica and Chandler...ROSS and MONICA. We're running out of combinations."
But anyways, I like Friends. I like some characters more than others, but it would be hard to imagine a Friends missing any one of the six. Sure, it's a little bit unreal and sometimes soap-opera-ish, but it's fun to watch and I want to see what happens to all the characters.
