So did anyone watch? I was very skeptical going in, mainly cuz I couldn't see anyone but Walken in that role. But Anthony Hall delivered well...in 5 mins I was captivated by HIS version of Johnny, and he did a fine job. It had some good twists from the original story (the doctor's Mom revelation was different, but ok),but overall it was a better hour of television than is the norm.

THE BAD:

OK, this is nitpicking to be sure, but why do they feel the need to change things that DON'T NEED CHANGING????

No Castle Rock?????? Johnny has a kid ?????? And I may not be remembering the book right here, but as I recall Johnny couldn't "freeze frame" visions, and they didn't last beyond his contact with the person he was touching. And Sahra being married to Sherrif Bannerman?????????

All in all, it'll get my viewing again, but I still have reservations about the resolution.....to be an ongoing series, this obviously cannot give us the tragic ending of the original movie/book....what I will be really interested in seeing is how they portray and develop Johnny's character...I don't want "Quantum Leap meets Quincy meets Columbo" . He is a tortured soul, and Episode one did a fairly good job of showing this, hopefully they won't take that away.

And somewhere along the way it'd be a nice nod to the movie by hearing him say the "God's been a real sport" speech http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

So is anyone watching this but me?

Episode 2 was pretty good also...Hall continues to impress me, and they are still incorporating bits of the novel...this one had mostly to do with <SPOILER>............the killer Johnny helps the police find....I liked the way that Bannerman and Johnny now seem to have a little respect for each other, cuz it was looking like it was gonna be a soap opera love triangle, but Johnny made a very unselfish choice at the end, (if anyone saw you know what I mean )...so hopefully it won't become that.

Next week he's gonna be teaching in school again...another step away from the book/movie, but I am quite impressed by the series thus far, so I may be hooked....

Well....Episode 4 definately started to show signs that they are going to just head into Soap Opera land with this one....and rip off Quantum Leap while they are at it. It was not a bad show in it's own right, but the whole Johnny acting the role of Tommy and rekindling a lost love is straight out of QL. And next weks previews don't look to promising.

Anthony Hall's acting continues to impress tho...but I can see them bulding up to the inevitable Johnny/Sara/Bannerman love triangle...big mistake.

I think it will take people a while to get into responding to all the TV threads as everyone is racing to post their own thread before someone else does.

But I am with you man The Dead Zone is great. I like seeing Hall making it, because I loved him in Weird Science.

I don't really care that they are not following the novel exactly, hey they need to get away from the novel a bit if they plan to make this a sustainable series.

ButI am really digging on it so far. I do think they will have to go into the crime solving area a bit but as long as he doesn't open up the Dead Zone Detective Agency I will be fine.

So keep them coming.

Out.......................

The Dead Zone was just picked up by the Sci-Fi channel and will air Fridays at 8pm. So now if you miss an episode on TNN or whatever network it is airing on you can catch it on Sci-Fi!

Plus it is airing right before Stargate and Farscape so you have a great Sci-Fi block all in one place.

Out..................
