So did anyone watch? I was very skeptical going in, mainly cuz I couldn't see anyone but Walken in that role. But Anthony Hall delivered well...in 5 mins I was captivated by HIS version of Johnny, and he did a fine job. It had some good twists from the original story (the doctor's Mom revelation was different, but ok),but overall it was a better hour of television than is the norm.
THE BAD:
OK, this is nitpicking to be sure, but why do they feel the need to change things that DON'T NEED CHANGING????
No Castle Rock?????? Johnny has a kid ?????? And I may not be remembering the book right here, but as I recall Johnny couldn't "freeze frame" visions, and they didn't last beyond his contact with the person he was touching. And Sahra being married to Sherrif Bannerman?????????
All in all, it'll get my viewing again, but I still have reservations about the resolution.....to be an ongoing series, this obviously cannot give us the tragic ending of the original movie/book....what I will be really interested in seeing is how they portray and develop Johnny's character...I don't want "Quantum Leap meets Quincy meets Columbo" . He is a tortured soul, and Episode one did a fairly good job of showing this, hopefully they won't take that away.
And somewhere along the way it'd be a nice nod to the movie by hearing him say the "God's been a real sport" speech http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif
