Ok, i need help with this one.
I was up quite late, just flicking through the channels hoping to find a good movie and i stumbled accross a programme called 'Ed'. Now in Britain it is shown at about 3am, 2 episodes at a time taking it through to 5am. This programme was brilliant!!! When it first started i couldn't see myself staying up watching the whole half hour, then it turned out that it was like 50 mins long and another episode to follow.
Anyway, i just wanted to know how popular this programme is in America. Does it have prime time screening or is it on late night like over here in Britain. And how come i haven't heard of this show before.
So...who likes the programme?

This is the show with the bowling-alley-lawyer, correct? I'm not sure because you said it was a half hour show, but I was pretty sure it's a full hour...
If that's the show you're talking about, it seems like a very good show to me. I watched a lot of the first season, but didn't stick with it.

I like Ed. I don't watch it religiously, but I think it's a very enjoyable show. In my parts of th U.S. it's on Wednesday nights at 8pm - prime time. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

I've been completely hooked on the show since it started last year. I just love the whole feel of the show. You have that sort of zany small town thing going on sort of like Picket Fences or that one about the doctor in Alaska, the name escapes me now.
I don't think there has ever been a weak character on the show yet. All the main characters are great, but also the ones who only show up for an episode are great as well as the ones who show every now and then again. Dr Jerome is a personal favorite and it appears he might be gone for good. I'll miss him.
It really is one of the more original shows to come out in the last few years in my humble opinion. It's incredibly well written with many episodes giving me belly laughs in one scene and honest to god close to tears in the next. I think of any program on right now with as much heart to it.

You mean Northern Exposure...I am reminded of it as well. The zany small town scenario, I like it a lot.

I noticed something called ED followed the lunchtime showing of ER on channel four, it was on today at about 1.30pm (ED) so if you're like me and don't have a job you're made.

So glad to see someone besides me watches ED. I love ED. I've been watching since the very first episode and I haven't missed an episode. It truly is a great show. Original, thoughful, funny and romantic. I guess you guys are in Season 1. Season 2 isn't as good as the 1st but it's still quality television. In my opinion, one of the most intelligent shows on TV.
That's just my two cents. So...bye.

Oh defo! I totally agree with you, it's one of the most original programme i've seen in a very ling time. I much appreciate seeing these type of programmes!!!
Intelligent, hence not appealing to the lowest common denominator just to get viewers original...and good acting!
Very refreshing to see!

Question...has this come out on dvd in America yet?
If so then a British release could be possible...coz that's a definite buy in my opinion!
So, is it on dvd with you guys?

Yeah great show....only saw three episodes of it then the series ended. more information at
http://www.nbc.com/Ed/index.html
and a virtual Stukeyville.."the ultimate fan site"
http://carol.virtualstuckeyville.com/
does not look like its on dvd though
heres why:-
Viacom/NBC does not have any plans to release the show on video. With a show as new as "Ed" is, the production companies are more worried about protecting its syndication rights so they can eventually sell it to a cable outlet; selling tapes would cut into the amount of money Viacom/NBC could get for rights fees and advertising (as opposed to HBO, which generally does not get its shows syndicated and therefore produces videos/DVDs as an additional revenue stream). Episode tapes occasionally show up on eBay, but the auctions are usually deleted before they end.
BUT you can buy the scripts from
www.hollywoodbookcity.com. (http://www.hollywoodbookcity.com.)

That's very kind of you to divulge that information there, thankyou.
Are any of those links you put up, porn sites, with the characters in? Coz nearly all the women are hot in it...and also, Ed is sooooo dreamy :P
Well cheers anyway, let's hope they decide to put it to dvd at least sometime in the future.

Did anyone catch the episode with Kevin Pollak? That was classic.
I like this show, it has the kind of silly humor and quickfire dialogue that applies to me in tv shows. Great show.

Which series are you talking about now?
Being in the UK we have only had the pleasure of seeing the first series as of yet. If it was in the first series, what happened in the episode coz i certainly can't remember it.

It must've been the first season, because I don't think we've got any more aired here than you have.
In the episode Pollak's character wanted to try all kinds of things he had never done before. I actually missed the first 15 minutes of it, but after that it was a riot. He at least tried to climb up a wall of a building and get to the roof. I think he actually did get there, and back down the same way, and got arrested for it. But he didn't really mind, since he had never been arrested before. It was a great episode.

I didn't see it, but Kevin Pollak is a really funny guy. I'll bet it was hysterical.

Oh christ, yeah! How could I forget that episode!
Yeah that was damn funny. It was the one where Ed is trying to everything in a week that he did when he was 18 and he just couldn't keep up with his younger self.
And Kevin Pollack, was getting arrested and he got sent to spend a night in jail to teach him a lesson, Ed went to appeal, but was stopped coz Pollack said he'd never spent a night in jail and wants to live his life to the full and experience everything.
lol
Basically what happened was he invented a new type of bacon and wanted to patent it, so he went to Ed for help. Later as he was working on his invention his machine blew up and nearly killed him, so having a near death experience, he deicded it's time to live life to it's fullest and experience everything, hence the reason he got naked and bowled and got himself arrested etc.
Good episode http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

I managed to forget that the "do everything I did when I was 18"- thing was in the same episode, that was hilarious.
I love the characters in the show, it's not like anything I've seen very recently. Warren P. Chestwick...what can I say, the ultimate scene-stealer. Did you guys see the episode where Warren and his band played at some party at the bowling alley? That was priceless.
And Phil...Oh boy, that guy cracks me up every time, this show just gets better every week!

Yeah, too right it does.
But one thing i had noticed is that i got told, i'm not sure if it was in a previous post in this topic but someone said that the 2nd series wasn't as good as the first.
Which is a shame...

07-20-2002, 05:06 PM
That would be a shame if it's true, but I won't believe it 'til I see it with my own eyes!
I did hear that they had to drop the Foo Fighters theme song, due to some legal obligations, that's too bad, it's a great song.
herculeez
07-20-2002, 07:06 PM
They've had to drop the Foo Fighters song 'Next Year'?
It was that song that first drew me to the programme. As i was flicking through the channels i heard the song, and being a huge Foo Fighters fan myself i was intruiged to keep it there to see what the programme was and its collaboration with the georgous cinematography that the intro produces just denied me from changing the channel.
Shame they have had to ditch that.
Do you know if they have another 'known' song as their theme now, or is it one produced especially for the programme?
And, yeah, i'm gonna have to watch the 2nd series to actually believe that it's not living up to the standards of the first one.

I was also very bummed about the losing of the Foo FIghters, but you do get the same opening credits with the town and all. And the new song isn't half bad either. I downloaded it the beginning of the season which for us here was in Sept. so I don't recall the name and artist. I'll see if I can dig it out of my collection for you.
As far as the quality of the new season, I had to say it probably isn't quite as good as season 1, because the freshness that drew you in is not there anymore. That being said it is still of my favorite show and the drop off in quality is quite trivial. We get a lot lot more Warren P. Cheswick which to me is a great thing. Keep and eye for the one when he joins the wrestling team. There were some classic moments in that episode. YOu get a new character to hate and one to love. I don't want to give a whole lot away for you guys. It almost sounds like the show is more popular in the UK than it is here. Just rest assured it is still a great show.
herculeez
07-21-2002, 08:08 PM
Yeah, hey if you could find the artist and the title of the song, then that would be great, i'll give that a download and listen to it.
I see what you mean by how it may not be as good for the second series, but you make that wrestling episode sound really good.
So you say that Warren's in it more? Coz for the first season they icluded him into every other episode, so he's in it more ofen now?
Cool, i always like the plots invloving him.

The song is called "Moment in the Sun" by Clem Snide. I couldn't find it on any of my disks so I did a quick search on Kazaa and am downloading it again. It's a good song, but when I saw the first episode this past season I just about had a panic attack when Foo FIghters didn't start up the show.
Just to clear up my last post. There are two new important characters, but i made it sound like they turn up in the episode about Warren wrestling. I'm pretty sure both were introduced in the first episode and if not within the first two episodes for sure. One is a new principle at Stuckyville High and a new nerdy cute chick who helps Warren in his continuing efforts to hook up with Jessica Martel.
As far as Warren goes, I'd say he got just as much attention this season as any of the other characters other than of course Ed and Carol.

Ignore anything positive that I said about the song. Well actually the segment of the song that is played at the start of ed is good. I actually liked it. WHen I downloaded it before I must have never listened to it or I did and then deleted it immediately because it was so bad. The song is a whole lot more country than I expected. The lyrics are kinda annoying at times. Just not a good song.

I just got watching a re-run tonight and thought I'd bump this back up.
I'm pissed off they didn't hardly so any re-runs of the show over the summer so I could catch the couple that I missed during last season. They showed clips of the season opener and I'm not sure I can wait another three weeks. I also realized that I might have to adjust my class schedule this semester. I'm in class until 8:15 on wednesday night. Oh well my VCR will be getting a serious workout the next few months.
For those of you across the pond how's the second season treating you all thus far if it has started for you. We may need to set up a new topic so those of us soon getting the third season don't ruin anything for you.

I'm still waiting for the second season over here, don't know about them Brits, but we didn't get it yet. I think it kicks off sometime in October, but I'm not sure.
EDIT: Looks like they're airing some kind of re-runs starting this Friday, but I'm not sure when the new episodes kick in. I'm hoping they'll do what they did with E.R and show two seasons at ones, but I don't think that'll happen. Looks like I'll have to wait a bit longer http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif

I've watched Ed since it premiered and loved the first season but have to say got a little bored with the 2nd season. Tonights episode was great! It made me love the show again. It went back to what made the show so great in the first place and thats ed and carol. It was Carols wedding day and Ed decides to break up the wedding the way only Ed would do (on a horse with a white tux). Ed's back!

I'm just glad to see that someone brought Ed back up. I too am loving this season. The've brought back to Foo Fighters theme. And last weeks was a classic. I hope to see more of Carol little sister. She was seriously hot. The scenes with her and warren were great.
My hope for tonights so is that they just get it all worked out and they jsut become friends for now. I'm quite sure that is how it'll be. I liked it when they were best friends with some obvious sexual tension going on.

There are no spoilers in my above post because there is nothing spoiled. What I said is the same things that are in the COMMERCIAL! I wouldve put spoiler warnings there if there was anything spoiled. I never said he broke up any wedding or didn't. i said that he decides to break up a wedding. As said in the commercials. So nothing at all was givin away.

For our friends across the ocean they aren't getting this season yet. What you posted is a spoiler for them. If you look back most of the posts to this forum is from those in the UK and other places. Last I knew they were still getting season 1 and were just about to start getting season 2. SO EXCUSE ME ALL TO HELL FOR LOOKING OUT FOR THEM
