Breaking news just now over at MSNBC.com and CNN.com is that Heston has just come out and said that he's sick. Seems that he shows the symptoms of alzheimers.

Fighting urge not to make jokes...sorry but he's really pissed me off in recent years. NRA and all that. (i'll stop now before this becomes a political debate).
Nobody should have to go through something as horrible as Alzheimers though. That and Parkinsons is just horrible. I wouldn't wish either on my worst enemys. With Alzherimers you are pretty much gradually losing your mind and with Parkinson's you pretty much are losing control slowly of everything but your mind. I can't even imagine which one would be worse.

See, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's are two different diseases totally (besides from the fact that they both affect the brain). My opinion is that Alzheimer's is probably worse, but I don't know all the facts. My grandmother's friend was diagnosed with Parkinson's eight years ago at the age of 63 or 64, and she shows almost no symptoms (only slow movement, but most old people show slow movement).
Too bad about Heston, but the man is 78. I don't want to say it's expected but, you know...

Michael J. Fox has Parkinson's and he's in his late 30's or early 40's! I feel bad for anyone who has any disease like those two. I mean talk about a slow and horrible way to go. It's a shame. A real shame.

Well I don't know about Alzheimers, but Parkinsons doesn't kill you. Anyways this is getting a bit off-topic!

Alzheimers can be the cause of death. Supposedly one of the biggest causes of death is choking. They forget how to swallow apparantly.

yer, my nan died of that not long ago.
bad thing is on one side of my family there's a history of alzheimers, on the over there's a history of Parkinsons, so I'll bookmark this topic and tell you which is worse in 50 years time.
The cool thing is though Charlton is a rich man and there's a lot of advancement in treating alzheimers now, hopefully there'll be a drug on the market soon which can actually reverse the process.

Yes, I read about it, and was moved by how well he's dealing with it, he's a pretty strong person and will not go without a fight. I hope he will enjoy his remaining years in peace.
I also wish to extend my sympathies to those who have loved ones with such illnesses. I know I can't make it better, but one can always try.

Awwww...you've nearly made this cold-hearted Schmoe cry with that message.
Anyways, yes, there are clinical trials on drugs for both Alzheimers and Parkinsons that people hope can make severe improvements. Cross your fingers, everyone!

I heard about it on the news. They showed a video of him telling people, this is what he said...
"If i tell a joke twice, laugh anyway"
You gotta love the guy for being that strong when he's so sick.
I hope is with him and his family...

I will really miss him. One of the most memorable quotes ever in our beloved genere, 'Get your damn stinking paws off of me, you filthy ape!' will live peoples minds forever. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family in this trying time. I can't help but think on Nancy Regan, extending her condolences and prayers to his wife. She really knows what the day in, day out tragedy of this is. Regan has been living, (existing, rather) with it for what, eight years now? Damn.

heston is a bad mutha! i never totally agreed with his political stance on gun control, but i've always admired him for having a steal set of jewels. he was the omega man, man. his guest starring on saturday night live was one of the greatest!
hopefully the road will not be very bumpy for him. I'm glad to see people like him and Fox still having laughs because my motto is that "things may go up, and things may go down, but good humour keeps it all going round-and-round." actually that's not my motto. i just made it up to explain how i feel. it's good for people with these diseases to have strong inspiration.
