View Full Version : Celebrities you actually like?

Jason Voorhees

What celebrities (or any actors/actesses in general) seem like really nice, decent people? People you wouldn't mind calling a friend even?

I thought that since we sometimes are so very cynical of Hollywood and actors in general that this topic may be a nice break from all that (Note, I'm not complaining, Just noting).

So lets talk positively about celebrities (and actors) shall we?

My selection is Victor Wong, He always came across as a very kind and caring person, how about you guys? Unfortunatley, He passed away almost a year ago to this day due to heart failure, God bless you Vic, I hope you found serenity.

(JoBlo, If you feel this topic is out of place or needless then close it If you'd like)

Lou Diamond Phillips and Noah Wyle seem like two of the nicest people in Hollywood. Their egos seem to be much like my winkie -- not very big.

Ewan McGregor
Matt Damon
Jennifer Love Hewitt
Matthew McConaughey
Mandy Moore
Nicole Kidman
Michelle Pfeiffer
Mel Gibson

They all stike me as genuinely nice people.

I have the impression that Shaquille O'Neal is genuinely decent person, though he is not not an actor intrinsically, I felt he was worth a mention.

Bruce Campbell seems like a great guy to sit down and have a small chat with. And Michelle Rodriguez sounds like a nice person, aparently shes very down to earth which is cool, at least the power hasn't gotten to their heads. Thank God.

He is, says my boss.

Also, from experience (from my mother, my boss, my roommate and myself), these following celebrities are also good/nice people:

Johnny Depp, Robin Williams, Tom Cruise, Chris Tucker, Kevin Spacey, Erika Christensen, Jenna Elfman, Isaac Hayes, Juliette Lewis, Jason Lee, Giovanni Ribisi, John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Lisa Marie Pressly, Arnold Schwarzeneggar and Wayne Brady (The Wayne Brady Show, Who's Line is it Anyway?).

My roommate says that Jerry Seinfeld is a bastard, and Jessica Beil is a stuck-up bitch though.

Colin Farrell, Tom Cruise, Kevin Spacey, Jim Carrey, Sidney Poitier, Cameron Crowe, Tom Sizemore, Spielberg, Matt Damon, Tim Roth, John Cusack, Hugh Grant, Cate Blanchett, Joel Schumacher.

These are the ones that come across as nice or genuine people (even if I hate their films). The one person I don't like is Johnny Depp. I hate the way that he speaks to interviewers.

What a deep man he really is.

Shaquille O'neal is the nicest person you'd ever want to meet.

Johnny Depp is a dick.
John Travolta is okay, if wildly fucked up in his views, and a horrible actor.
Nic Cage is a dick.
Jodie Foster is "better than thou"
Christian Slater is cool. (bad actor)
Leo DiCaprio is a feminine little bitch.
And Tom and Nicole are both too good to speak to you.

Okay, this didn't happen to me, but I know BadCoverVersion will appreciate it. And since it's a celebrity story, so will you guys.

Two years ago my girlfriends older brother was studying in Manchester (he's a highly respected cancer something or other in New York now). One day he went to a cafe for his breakfast when Steve Coogan (24 Hour Party People, The Parole Officer, I'm Alan Partridge) and his brother came in and ordered a full English breakfast. Long story short, he was just about to tuck into it when his mobile phone rang, calling him away from the feast on his plate. He looked around, saw my girlfriends brother and said 'hey, would you like this full English breakfast?' (or words to that effect). When he replied, 'no, but thanks anyway', Steve Coogan stood up and declared to the entire cafe that they were welcome to help themselves to the breakfast 'as long as you don't accuse the eggs of being gay - likre this guy here'. Well, everyone recognised him and clapped as he left - then shot daggers at my girlfriends brother for 'egg-homophobia'.

Oh, one year I celebrated New Year with Kirsty Hume and Donovan Leitch - they were both pretty nice, but not really big stars per se. Couldn't bring myself to ask them if Ione Skye had a mobile number I could phone.

My boss worked with Johnny Depp for a day on a shoot with him. He said that he was really nice and cooperative, just that he smelt really badly of cigarette smoke. How did you "meet" him, and what did you do to unleash the "dick" in him? http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

John Travolta is a very entheusiastic person, and a very good person says my mother and a dozen other people I know who have met him. And let's refrain from covertly trashing religions (i.e. Scientology) on this MOVIE board, eh? (I'm assuming that's what you meant by, "wildly fucked up in his views".)

Tom Cruise (It shouldn't be "Tom and Nicole" anymore, because they aren't together) is also a very entheusiastic and awesome person, says my mom and a dozen other people I know who have met him.

Nicole Kidman is probably the reason why they were "too good to speak to". She seems to be very snobby and stuck up, and very prideful of herself.

As for Nic Cage, he's now with a very cool and nice person (Lisa Marie Pressly) so maybe he won't be such a dick soon.

What did "I" do to set off Mr. Depp? I had the unmitigated gall to say "hello" to him as he exited an airplane. My bad.

I wasn't "trashing" Travolta's (or Kidman or Cruise's) "religion". Just think he has a screw or two loose. It's an opinion.

As for Cruise and Cage, I don't get it. You need a decent person with you to be decent yourself? Pretty iffy to me. I guess they're always "acting" huh? Maybe once my boss stops being a dick I won't have to be either.

Ben Affleck. Aside from the heavy boozing, he seems cool.

Continuing the View Askew theme, I'll say Jason Lee. He's one of my favorite actors, so even if he's a dick, I'll like him.

DeNiro seems cool too.

the guy who runs are local video store hasn't enough nice things to say about johnny depp. He has an autographed picture of himself with Depp, and said that the dude offered nothing but compliments about his old store.

maybe it's because the man was old, and depp respects elderly more -- i dunno.

as far as his demeanor during interviews -- he has that rock star "too cool for school" attitude, and that's about the worst of it that i noticed.

Grebdron - what did depp do in response to you saying hello? Your leaving us hanging here. How could you tell he was a dick by saying hello? Did he shove you off, or something? Was he jet lagged and drunk on his personal time?

I've never met Johnny Depp, and I don't want this to turn into an anti/pro Depp debate, but in every single interview I have ever seen him conduct he has been both rude and blunt (not to every question, but most). That said, I'm sure he's probably a good guy around his friends...As are we all.

I've never actually cared for his movies. Even before that. His choices are a little strange for my tastes. Don Juan Demarco was good, and he wasn't bad in Chocolat, but The Astronaut's Wife sucked ass. Not even my girlfriend Charlize could save that.

Hey Greb, that's the second time I've heard you say someone acted like a jerk to you at an airport. Maybe they're acting liek jerks because of too much jet lag. I mean after a couple of connections or just too many frequent trips I'd be a Queen Bitch myself.

As for Nicole Kidman, I recently heard that she actually has panic attacks around large groups of people, which would explain how whe always looks like she's on edge when I see her at public gatherings. There was even a story about her being led off by her sister to a bathroom and having a full scale attack right there.

That seems like shyness to me and from my personal experience, everyone seems to misrepresent shyness as high-brow bitchiness.

It was actually a private airport I worked at. And they were chartered flights on Lear jets. Probably no layovers in Muskogee, OK. And jetlag doesn't give you an excuse to be an asshole. This was also back in the Jumpstreet days. Who the fuck did he think he was? A bad day is no excuse, IMO.

Another wonderful story from LaLa Land. They did some filming for Charlies Angels right next door to my girlfriend's brother's house. The bodyguards would not let anybody shoot still photos of the stars and actually went as far as to intimidate one of the neighbors into giving up a roll of film. Her brother said that Cameron Diaz was fine. He also said that Lucy Liu was actually very friendly, taking time out to speak to his kids and acknowledging their presence whenever appropriate. But apparently Drew Barrymore was a total bitch. Very snotty and standoffish. Very nice from a girl who has hit rock bottom. Way to grow the fanbase, bitch.

I'm reading all these posts where one actor is an asshole to one schmoe, and then a polite genial person the next. Could it quite possibly be that, like the rest of us, depending where we are and what we're going through we all have the tendency to be an angel or an asshole.

I'm not trying to be an asshole here myself, but no one has fully proved to me which is the more predominant personality, it just sounds to me like you either caught said celebrity on either one of their on or off days, just like we all have ourselves.

And to keep with the the thread, John C. REilly seems like an OK guy to me.

I see I have offended you... Firstly, I meant nothing bad by the name "The Storyteller", I was just joking around, but I'm sorry. Nor did I mean to possibly imply that maybe I didn't believe you, if you think that, because I do believe your stories - they have enough detail in them for me to come to this conclusion. Secondly, I had previously tried to say something to the effect of what Electriclite said, but was a little too "tongue-twisted" in just getting to the point, and next thing I knew, his/her post was up saying what I wanted to say.

I don't WANT to be on bad terms with anyone on this board, Grebdron, so I'll just work on thinking of what the consequences may be from what I say in my posts before posting them. I AM here to talk about movies and firmly state my opinions though, just I realize that I can do that easily withOUT the possibility of offending as well.

Though it's clear we disagree on a few things (you loved Very Bad Things, right?), let me again state two things I HAVE agreed with you on... (I'll also do this because you have a pretty good idea of where I live and could easily track me down and kick my ass if you don't like me http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif )

Schindler's List is my 2rd favorite movie of all time.

Eliza Dushku - she seems to be really friendly and down to earth , and the fact that she's super hot helps.

But now she's know as one the hardest people to get autographs from , and is said to be quite the bitch on set , and instead of doing charity work spends most of the time with Faggy Prinze Jr.

really enjoyed reading this thread there's some cracking banter going back and forth.Anyway my own celeb story happened a few years ago when i served carol smillie at the mcdonalds i worked at (for anyone not from the uk this is a somewhat famous tv presenter)and she was pefectly pleasant and polite.I thought this would be the talk of the shop for at least a few days only to discover that the very next day,my day off,the gallacher bros from oasis were in as they were playing a gig nearby. Not that i was that bothered to be honest as i'm not a big fan and their supposed to be complete dicks, although i'm told they were ok when they were in.

Ohh and in my opinion the nicest celebs are probably ed norton, brad pitt, kevin spacey, bruce campbell and jackie"the nicest man on the planet"chan!

Milk baths, huh? It ain't helping :D

What the fuck is it with eye contact? This is a common one for anecdotes of this kind. Not supposed to make eye contact. Were these people deeply impressed when the read the account of Moses on Mt. Sinai w/ the Burning Bush the first time, or what?

Dave Navarro from Jane's Addiction is pretty cool guy. I was dropping a friend of at the airport last year at 11:00 pm, & I saw him & Carmen Electra rush by. I grabbed my friend & we ran after him( I'm a pretty big Jane's Addiction fan). We caught him in a bathroom taking a leak, so my friend asked for his autograph during the middle of it. Instead of saying fuck off to us, he took us outside to meet Carmen. It's a pretty cool thing & Carmen is so damn hot!

That's impressive. Even the most patient autograph givers usually draw the line at the door of the john. Maybe he's just giddy because he's w/ Carmen.

The ones I actually "like": (These are some actors/actresses that haven't been mentioned)

Dustin Hoffman - Seems like a really nice, decent guy and I would love to sit down and chat with him about his movies.

Halle Berry - To me, everything about her is nice.

Breckin Meyer - He seems like a very cool, funny guy.

Naomi Watts - I just love her and she's definitely a nice person in my book.

Tobey Maguire - He is just a very sweet, innocent and nice guy and I love every movie he's done.

Josh Hartnett - I think he's so mature, nice and generous.

Glenn Close - In her movies, she's always so mean and villainous. But in real life, she's someone that I would want to be friends with.

Laura Dern - She seems very nice.

Michael Caine - Another very nice, generous and kind person in my book.

Elijah Wood - Someone I would want to be friends with because he's so nice and mature.

Brooke Shields - She can't act but she's a sweet person and I would love to spend one evening with her.

Nicest guy ever is a comedian named Mitch Hedberg. On top of being so funny you'll spit your drink out, he's humble and laid back. I'm an artist who did a picture of him and got the opportunity to give it to him in person. He was so blown away that someone would go out of their way to do his portrait - he must have thanked me 20 times in 20 minutes! He said he had just bought a new house and it would be the first thing that goes on a wall. At first I thought he was just being nice, but he's legit. If you get the chance, please go see him. You won't be disappointed! His site:

Bonus: If you hit the "home" link on the bottom, my artwork loads! Check it out!

As for seemingly nice people I haven't met but would sell a kidney to:

Tie for #1. Mike Myers
Tie for #1. Samuel Jackson
Tie for #1. Bill Paxton
Tie for #1. kd Lang
2. Christopher Walken
3. Tom Hanks
4. Kathy Bates
5. Jurassic 5
6. Stevie Nicks
7. Raul Julia (came in last cuz he's dead)

Even though they have been making the shittiest movies lately, I still like "America's Sweethearts" -Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock. Both seem genuinely nice and down to earth.

Typical Diva bitch. Thinks she's better than the average person. Demanding. Standoffish.

She is smoking hot, but not a very nice person.

Ethan Hawke

met him in san francisco @ a book signing gig....he was extremely nice, talked to everybody {thousands of giddy girls} that came thru. I think I'm the only one who asked him for a handshake cause I felt shy once I saw him in person and didn't know what else to do or say.

I deff think Ethan is a nice down-to-earth celebrity.

I tried to talk to Brendan Frasier when they were filming George of the Jungle, but the security guard stopped me. He was chilling in the grass and just waved at me and said Hi.

well.....there are actresses and actors that seem like really nice people (barry pepper, jake gyllenhaal, natalie portman, even sarah michelle gellar seems nice to me) but you never know, they ARE actors/actresses. i hope they are really nice.

but once i saw tim roth on david letterman and he was sooo nervous he kept fidgeting with the sleeves of his sweater and it was just soooo cute and he seemed so sweet. i would love to meet him.

i cant bealive nobody has mentioned ADAM SANDLER yet. I have heard that he is the nicest guy in the world. HE will give autographs to anyone and likes to talk. He doesn't even dress like a snob, he's alwayes wearing sweatpants and a sweater or something and looks like he's down to earth.

I would think Bernie mac would be cool to hang around with and i would love to chill with Eminem, he looks like a really cool guy.

It would be cool to hang out with Gene Hackmen, Will Smith, Matthew Perry, Jennifer Aniston(everyone knows why), Sean connery, and last but not least, Robin Williams.

happy OUT here
