I thought I'd get this forum started with a big topic everyone can reply to. Who is your favorite band or musician ever? From what's #1 on the charts now to The Beatles to Beethoven, whatever floats your boat. For me the answer is the one, the only, the incomparable, Mr. Bob Dylan
So c'mon folks, who's music do you dig above all else?

Tough one...
1. Jesus & Mary Chain (altered my taste in music...almost every album I currently own I owe in some way to their Darklands album altering my perception of music)
2. Nirvana (they achieved greatness...the future possibilites were endless...then...well...fuck!!! What a fucking waste.)
3. The Tindersticks (awe-inspiring, cinematic masterpieces - that's what The Tindersticks albums are)
4. Bob Dylan (when he's good he's the best at what he does...when he's bad he stinks like a corpse that's been lying in the Texas sun for a week)
5. Coldplay (sometime between the first album and the second they woke up and realised they could be one of the best bands in the world...A Rush Of Blood To The Head is a masterpiece)
With the exception of The Jesus & Mary Chain and Nirvana I could replace 3, 4 and 5 with any number of other artists/bands.

In my book Bjork is the most talented musician out there. She has successfully covered nearly all the music genres (is that the word?) and I love her to bits. Her greatest hits is coming out in early November! Yeeeeee!

I hope I got the message across:D though I wish OLP went back to its older stuff from Clumsy and Happiness....still, the new album Gravity is pretty good.
But after OLP, I think Five For Fighting is a great "group" and their two cds (Message for Albert and America Town) have some incredible songs in them. And Smashing Pumpkins' album Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness was amazing. Oh, and I thought Sky was a great duo (before the lead singer left, and the girl replaced him).

Some of my favorites are:
KORN
Disturbed
Glassjaw
Slipknot
Tool
Cold
Weezer
I can't wait to see Korn and Distubred on Oct 12. Disturbed's new cd is great despite the lack of screams from David Draimen.
And does anyone listen to Glassjaw? They don't really sell a lot of albums but I know they have a pretty big following.

Radiohead, Pulp (not that "Common People" malarkey!) and The White Stripes have got to be the band's of the moment for me I'm afraid!

Mike Patton and his numerous incarnations (FNM, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk) is one of the greatest musicians out there. He's definitely my favourite and it's hard not to like him because he makes real music on the fringes of mainstream.

I'm what you would call a man of the 60s, 70s, and 80s: I think the Beatles, Queen, Aerosmith, Michael Jackson and Bruce Springsteen (in no particular order) are the greatest ever. I'm not really into everything that goes along in the music world now, although I do listen to a lot of rock 'n roll and r'nb, and some hip-hop music. But I like the old songs, where people actually had something to say in.

Cheers dude. I also recommend a band called Low. They are part of a scene that is sometimes referred to as "slowcore". I fucking hate labelling music. There are only two labels required. Music is either "worth your precious time" or "the product of Satan and all his little minions". Those are the only two forms of categorisation that I require.
BTW. I recently got a hold of a Tindersticks CD "Live At The Botanique 9th - 12th May 2001". It's fucking great. I've seen them live and can testify to their brilliance. They are the kind of band who - great as they undoubtably are on studio albums - really find their wings and fly when playing live. If you email me with your address i'll send you a copy. It was a limited release and is no longer available.

Man, you've got the right ideas! Except for the whole R&B and Hip-Hop thing, that's fuckin' annoying! The "good old tunes" ROCK, I miss them because they're a whole lot better than the shit we here today...no band will ever be better than THE BEATLES but I'll tell you this man...
I haven't been listening to the old stuff as much these days because there is some awesome new shit but it's hard to notice 'cos the GOOD new shit isn't as commercial. Listen to RADIOHEAD and you'll start listening to new shit a whole lot more, I'm serious man RADIOHEAD's music is so fuckin' nice! Each of their albums are different and awesome in their own ways.
Some other happening new bands to look into are: THE STROKES (they are very 60's-70's they're bringing the old music back man!), THE VINES (very NIRVANA, I hope you like that kind of thing), a bit of Gomez is nice but not for everyone, The Smashing Pumpkins, SONIC YOUTH (very PINK FLOYD), PJ Harvey and THE WHITE STRIPES, I also like oasis but somehow I don't think that YOU will, you prolly already don't.
Alright man, I hope you take my advice, you prolly couldn't be fucked, but I've gotta get my words to a dude who like the right music...

I know this thread is a little passe, but I recently recieved a message about the latest reply so I had a nice read over everything and I just realised that I'm somewhat ashamed of my top music artists list...so here and now...I am recapping...
1# RADIOHEAD
2# THE BEATLES
3# PINK FLOYD
4# MUSE
5# Bjork
6# blur
7# oasis
8# Silverchair
9# COLDPLAY
10# Sigur Ros
11# TOOL
12# David Bowie
13# the verve
14# NIRVANA
15# PJ Harvey
I still stand by my belief that there will never ever be a more influential, original and glory deserving band than THE BEATLES...however, RADIOHEAD have nailed the fuckers by doing the opposite...hiding in the darkness and not listening to anyone!
Top albums...
1# KID A (RADIOHEAD)
2# Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (THE BEATLES)
3# OK COMPUTER (RADIOHEAD)
4# ABSOLUTION (MUSE)
5# DARK SIDE OF THE MOON (PINK FLOYD)
6# AMNESIAC (RADIOHEAD)
7# ORIGIN OF SYMMETRY (MUSE)
8# 13 (blur)
9# REVOLVER (THE BEATLES)
10# PARKLIFE (blur)
11# Hail to the Thief (RADIOHEAD)
12# DIORAMA (Silverchair)
13# VESPERTINE (Bjork)
14# Definitely Maybe (oasis)
15# MEDDLE (PINK FLOYD)
16# the bends (RADIOHEAD)
17# POST (Bjork)
18# URBAN HYMNS (the verve)
19# The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars (David Bowie)
20# ( ) (Sigur ros)

Even tho it's pretty obvious, I'll post my favorite band of all time
MOTORHEAD!!!
As far as I am concerned, Mr. Kilmister and co. have been as much of an influence on Heavy Metal and Hard Rock as any other band out there. Even though they may not get as much credit as bands like Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Metallica, they will always be my favorite
