"Capricorn" by 30 Seconds To Mars is a kickass song. Plus the lead singers Jared Leto, he's kinda cool.

I've been digging THE AVALANCHES "Since I Left You" -- groovy stuff

i also heard a MERCURY REV song on the movie PANIC, and have been on a M.R. trek every since. The songs "Carwash Hair" and "Downs Are Feminine Balloons" are very nice.

Also the new DJ SHADOW album "The Private Press" kicks buddius maximus!

The last album I brought was The Calling's "Calmino Palmero" which I definately recommend, if you're into that kind of music.

If you dig rock 'n' roll, I'd recommend Screaming Stukas. It's a Finnish rock band that has recently translated their hit songs to English, I think the single is called Some Fun Tonight...Really a rockin' good time.

The new Coldplay album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, is far and away the best CD I have bought in ages.

As far as "Singles" go,

Eve and Alicia Keys duet "Gangsta Love" kicks major ass. It's a wicked tune.

I also really dig Sam Roberts "Brother Down", Nelly and Kelly Rowland's "Dillemma", No Doubt's "Underneath It All", Sheryl Crow's "Steve McQueen", Daniel Bedingfield's "Gotta Get Thru This", Weezer's "Keep Fishin'", and the Dixie Chicks' fantastic cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide".

You beat me to the punch! A Rush Of Blood To The Head is easily the best cd I have heard in ages. I loved Parchutes, but "Blood" is light years ahead of it. As for others, I'm listening to the whole cd of "The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most" by Dashboard Confessional, kick ass cd! As for singles.......

The Flaming Lips-Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robot
Wilco- Jesus etc.
Jimmy Eat World-Bleed American

Not tunes specifically but albums I'd recommend

NON PHIXION "THE FUTURE IS NOW"
COPYWRITE "THE HIGH EXULTED"
CAGE "MOVIES FOR THE BLIND"
EDAN "PRIMITIVE PLUS"

My favourite LP of the year has to be

RJD2 "DEADRINGER"

They arr all hip hop albums but If you are fed up with Nelly, Trick Daddy et al, give them a try.

RJD2 will definitely appeal to non-hip hop fans...he is what Moby should be.

Download...

RJD2 featuring Copywrite "June" beautiful tune.

Hip Hop with substance.

The following albums are currently on heavy rotation in my house,

Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head (leagues ahead of their debut...shiver down the spine material)

Red Hot Chili Peppers - By The Way (this one came right out of the left field...bands that have been going as long as RHCP have no right to release their best album ever)

Jesus & Mary Chain - 21 Singles (I have all the albums and could have compiled this on my own...i'm just a big fat completist...best band ever)

Tindersticks - Live At The Botanique 9th - 12th May 2001 (more shiver down the spine music...an album to drink red wine to)

Cooper Temple Clause - See This Through And Leave (one of the best of the new crop of UK bands...rock like a bunch of bastards with attitude but also capable of surprisingly tender moments)

Dawn Of The Replicants - Wrong Town, Wrong Planet, Three Hours Late (madder than a big bag full of lobotomised monkeys...no one has heard of them but trust me...they are worth your precious time)

Bob Dylan - Desire (not the best Bob album...that's Blood On The Tracks...it is the second best though)

That's the Magnificent Seven for this week. Next week everything could change. I can feel a trip to Avalanche Records in Glasgow coming on. Where's my credit card...

My advice to ANYONE who likes rock and roll..

go out and buy Robert Johnson's complete Recordings

The man Single-handedly merged myth and popular music, with his own, supposedly self proclaimed stories of him selling his soul to the Devil in exchange for musical talent....for the era, late twenties, the man's musical brain was second to absolutely NO ONE on earth..

and he rocks..BIGTIME..

New albums

RHCP's New album: By The Way is great, not their best, that is probably still Blood Sugar Sex Magick, but it's a close run thing.

The Black Crowes Live. It's crying shame the crowes are no more (Though Chris Robinson has a solo effort; "New Earth Mud" due) but this an excellent live album and a nice note to end on

Aimee Mann: Lost In Space. I'd recommend any of her albums but this is her best since Whatever ('93). High On Sunday 51 is an absolutely gorgeous song.

Sleater-Kinneys new album "One Beat" is very good, although it is not the best intro to the band, that would be their 1997 masterpiece "Dig Me Out". The band is punk rock/alternative in case ya dont know. And yes, the lead singer Corin Tucker has load, beaming vocals on this album too, and they really grate some, but I love it.
