Is anyone else anticipating next month's release of the following to the best game of 2001, Grand Theft Auto III as much as me?
The game itself sounds great. Better graphics, bigger levels, more cars including motorcycles and planes, more guns, celebrity voices including Ray Liotta as the main character. I can't wait until October 22nd.
How about you?

I cant wait either, I still play GTA3 nearly every day. Haven't had as much fun playing a game for ages. Brilliant.

I downloaded a Vice City movie from KaZaA the other night, this looks like one of the best games coming to PS2. Theres going to be over 100 vehicles (including Motorbikes and Ice Cream Trucks :)) and 40+ weapons, or so I read on a link from msn.com the other day. I know that I'll be getting this one on its first day.

I don't know how GTA3 is on PS2, I guess it's as good as the PC version (the only one I've been able to play on).
All I can say is that, although I thought the two first GTA games were over-ugly, GTA3 is one of the best games I've ever played. You can do pretty much everything you feel like, and it's violent wihout being over-bloody. It's just pure fun.
All I hope is that this...add-on, is it?...will come out on PC too, because I'd love to buy it.

Nope, no add-on here. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will be a stand-alone game. It's set in the 80's and will have a completely different story line than GTAIII.
From what I've read, take everything in GTAIII and improve it about 3 times and you get GTA:VC.

Oh wait, we can't forget the all 80's soundtrack that's going to be released as well!

I was reading some of the new stuff you can do in Vice City. You can shoot drivers and passengers while they're in their cars, shoot out tires, bust up cars with baseball bats and fly and land a helicopter anywhere. I was looking at pics and they look awesome. You know that outfit that Mr, Oranges partner is wearing in Reservoir Dogs? On the roof? the vest and shit. They have a gang that wear that exact outfit. T-shirts tucked in, acid washed jeans. Plus theres biker gangs! And Judas Priest! Im foaming at the mouth here!!!! Next month baby! HIYOOOOOO

Only 12 more days to go. Of course since I don't have the game preordered I'll probably have to wait longer than that. Oh well...
I have a question for you guys. What do you think of the voice acting choices for the game?
So far all I really know is that Ray Liotta is the voice of the main character. Supposedly there are also a lot of other known actors such as Gary Busey, Danny Trejo & Luis Guzman. Hell, even Lawrence Taylor and Jenna Jameson have voice parts. This game is shaping up to be pretty damn sweet.
Jason Voorhees
10-18-2002, 12:27 AM
Damn, that's a great ensemble of voice talent.
I feel your pain man, I don't have it pre-ordered either. Speaking of that, did you know this game has already presold 4 million copies? That has to be a new record.
One of my favorite new bits (besides the addition of cutlery to your weapons arsenal), is the ability to go inside buildings. That means office dwellers are no longer safe.. haha..

Hey, if anyone wants to see some cool action sequences from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City go to www.gtavicecity.com and click on the Movies section. There you will find three different Vice City trailers: one from August, one from September, and a brand new one for October. I cannot wait until this game comes out!!! If anyone knows anything about the codes that are only granted through the purchase of the CD Soundtrack, please let me know.

A couple of hands-on previews have surfaced at http://ps2.ign.com and http://www.gamespot.com
The more I read about this game, the more I need it. A 40+ arsenal of weapons including knuckledusters, nightsticks, golf clubs, chainsaws and hammers?? Bailing out of moving vehicles at high-speed? Pulling wheelies and endos on motorcycles?
I can't believe I have to wait three weeks for this! :(

Ok, I've got my money ready for this baby, 3 weeks to go, BRING IT ON!

10-18-2002, 02:18 PM
I just read the Gamespot preview. You can add Dennis Hopper to the list of celebrity voices as well as Philip Michael Thomas from Miami Vice.
About going into buildings. I read somewhere that if you walk into the police station and pull out a gun it's basically instant death. Sounds like a challenge to me. Seeing how many cops you can gun down before the entire squad comes after you.

Due to the sniper serial killer, some major retailers (Walmart, Target) will not be selling violent games. Hard to imagine a game more violent than GTA.
Jason Voorhees
10-23-2002, 10:33 AM
Yeah, that's understandable. I mean, there wouldn't be a sniper killer if Walmart and Target didn't sell violent video games.
RogueSpear
10-23-2002, 01:46 PM
Actually that's pretty much a blatant rumour. I believe some (and I stress some) stores (Walmart, etc.) have decided to take violent games off their shelves but not all of them. I'm still holding out hope that I can get a copy of the game there next Tuesday. It shouldn't be a problem, however.

I reserved my copy in Lexington, KY back in May at a Babbage's and was told yesterday that the game should be available for pickup after 4 pm on Monday the 28th. Fantastic.

This game is gonna be sweet. Rockstar always seem to get it right. I play GTA3 on PS2 religiously every day. I've mastered the Dodo. Yes, I managed to fly all the way from Francis Intl. to Staunton! :D
Sometimes I feel like driving normally, and just thinking of it as a life simulator. One with a restart button :D
Another cool thing I heard about Vice City is that the Police will arrest other people too (gangs who carjack etc.) I know that doesn't sound very big but it will help it to be realistic (not very far off already). mmmmmm...screwdrivers :D

10-29-2002, 01:21 PM
Well, the day has arrived and after searching through two Walmarts, two Meijers, and a Target I finally found the game at Best Buy even though there ad says they won't have it until tomorrow! I even got it for only $39.99 which is ten dollars cheaper than almost everywhere else.
On to the game: I haven't really got a chance to play it yet because I had to come to work but for the twenty minutes or so I did play I was hooked. This game has already beaten out Grand Theft Auto 3 by a long shot. It looks beautiful. The characters are cool, the cars are awesome (motorcycles kick ass!) and the voice overs are good to. There is so much I can say about this game and I haven't even played any of the missions yet.
Money is much harder to come by in this game as are weapons. The only way I found to get a gun right away was to kill a cop and that's an instant 2 stars. Oh and stars, they don't just go away after awhile like in GTA3, these cops are relentless.
Anyway, I can't say much more about the game because I really haven't had a chance to play it, but I can say that this will definately become my favorite movie ever.
More after I play again...

argh so many games, so little $$
GTA3 was so great...I can't hardly wait to get my copy of Vice City. In my opinion, I think Rockstar tried to heighten the levels up a bit..trying to make it harder to obtain weapons, more difficult missions, harder to lose the cops following your tail...but that only means longer gameplay(I haven't even finished GTA3!!)

I got my pre-ordered copy in the mail today. Needless to say, I've been playing it ever since =) Huge amount of fun, like one big, sprawling Miami Vice episode. Been zipping around on Faggios (the little motoscooters), and thats a riot -- until you even glance another vehicle or tree, then it's OFF INTO THE GREAT BLUE YONDER ;) I went halfway up a telephone pole one time, as the bike skittered about a mile to the left. Plus having Ray Liotta chide the police as you beat the fuck out of them is a real hoot =) Got up to four warrant badges, six police cars, a SWAT truck and a helicopter on my ass tonight. Good to know some things haven't changed.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!
I just finished killing Lance Vance and Sonny, and then the end credits rolled. It looked like it was the end of the game, but I knew that it could not be the end because I was only 59% complete. So after the credits rolled, I was returned to the Vercetti Estate and was awarded $30,000 for completing the mission. After this I had a few phone calls. Colonel Cortez called me, as well as Kent Paul. I have completed all of the available missions, but I was wondering if I would get anymore work from either Cortez or Kent Paul??? It seems that all I can do now is drive around and collect hidden packages and rampages. Does anyone know if this is the end of the Mission Oriented segment of the game??? If you do know, a response would be great.

How's the voice acting?
And what're some of the things Ray Liotta says? I was wondering this since I'm so used to silent GTA "heroes"

The voice acting is excellent. Better than GTA3 and Ray Liotta is perfect as Tommy Vercetti. I'm trying to think of specific things that he says. Sometimes when the cops are after you he screams "I'm innocent!". He always calls people dicks, pricks, and says shit alot. He always has a smart ass remark for just about everyone he meets.
The rest of the voice acting is great as well. I especially liked William Fichtner as Tommy's lawyer Ken Rosenberg. I love that the game is full of top-notch quality actors. Including Liotta, Fichtner, Luiz Guzman, Tom Sizemore, Gary Busey, etc., etc.

When Tommy yanks someone out of a car hell say "Got insurance?! DONT BE A PRICK!!!!" and when hes riding around in the police helicopter he'll get on the radio and says "you wanna be a crime fighter? THEN GET OFF THE GODDAMN RADIO!!" hes so hostile :) hes got a great attitude.

What is very ironic today is that I had a chance to rent Vice City, but they carded me. Any ID I woulda had wasn't with me and they couldn't let me rent it, DESPITE THE FACT THAT I COULD RENT GTA3 OR ANY OTHER M RATED GAME IN EXISTENCE, NO QUESTIONS ASK

This game fucking owns! One thing I noticed though, was that I was much more eager to play the game missions (to advance the plot and find out what happens). In GTA3, I spent the majority of the time killing shit.
I think the voice acting rules. Especially since my fave actor (Tom Sizemore) is in it. Having the lead character (Tommy) actually speak and show personality makes a huge difference.
Some of the new weapons are just wrong (I mean that in a good way). Like the chainsaw. The first time I saw Tommy waddling around carrying that thing, I lost it.
The motorcycles are incredible! I can spend hours just driving around nailing people on mopeds.
BEST GAME OF 2002!
