Seiken Densetsu 3 (Or, if you like, the american equivalent would be Secret of Mana 2)

Easily the best snes game. While I'm not too fond of most RPGs, this one is simply BADASS. Much more Zelda-like gameplay than the first one, which is good imo. Also, very nice graphics (play it on zsnes with super-eagle engine enabled for PSX like graphics)

You can find it on most rom site, and most of the times, it's already patched.

I don't care much for RPG's, but a friend let me borrow Chrono Trigger for a summer and I fell in love with it. Zelda was also really fun, me and my dad spent months trying to finish it.

Castlevania 4 and Contra 3 are also keepers.

When friends are over, nothing beats stomping through Final Fight 2 & 3, Double Dragon 4.

I also beat The Lost Levels (from Mario All-Stars) with a friend last year in college. Every night until 3 until we did it. All the way through world 9, and then we went back and played through worlds A-D just to see the entire game. Hard as hell, but really rewarding. Thank God for the Save feature!
