If you care to know, I played TMNT1 yestarday and got to the Techndrome, Hard as fucking hell, but great. The sequels were good, but I like the 1st alot more, just because it's different.

well, I would go back to play my nes. but im too lazy to play it now, yes I'm that lazy :D

Contra and Super Contra are two of the best video games ever period.

But both still are a notch behind Tecmo Bowl and Super Tecmo Bowl. Madden 2525 won't be better than those two.

When I was a kid Nintendo would frustrate the shit out of me. Like if I lost a game or got killed I'd go apeshit. The only release of this stress for me was to bite the corners of my controller as hard as I could. Yeah I was a weird kid. Anyways, its still a great system! My top five games...

1) Mario 3
2) Jackel (this kickass jeep/war game)
3) Ice Hockey
4) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
5) Kung fu

My NES hasn't worked for years so I downloaded all the old games I could off the internet. I think I have around 150. I have my computer hooked up to a couple of controllers and my TV so everything works pretty much just the same.

I would love to get my hands on a working NES. Mine shut down a long time ago. Although, NES did not have the greatest graphics (actually they pale in comparison to today's graphics) there were some very memorable games. I used to spend 5-6 hours a night with my ass planted in front of the TV playing NES. I still remember the day I got Punch Out for Christmas. I didn't even open any other presents. Just went downstairs and started playing. Or the time I finally beat Double Dragon (something me and my friend had been trying to do for weeks) and no one was around to see it and therefore didn't believe me. It was great.

My favorite games:
Contra
Techmo Super Bowl
Mike Tyson's Punch Out
Double Dragon 1 & 2
Metroid
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade

Double Dragon was an excellent game, wasn't it? The last level was hardcore dude! A bunch of thugs, then some chicks with whips. A group of scum dudes, then to Chin's!!! whoa!!!

To top that off, two Abobo's at once followed by Willy, the fighter with a GUN! Now he is some hard shite to take down, but done easily if you have the dragon flowing through your fingers.

And if it didn't seem hard enough, Jimmy, the evil twin of Billy(other good guy of part 2) comes for an ass whoppin' as well. Alot more skilled than Billy I might add. More energy :D

Then after him you get to see Marion's pussy ... cat. :D

So it's a happy ending, isn't it???

Exactly! I remember beating Willy with virtually no power left thinking I had beat the game. Then, to my surprise out comes my evil twin to kick my ass. I had to freakin jumpkick him the entire time because I couldn't afford to stand still (I had no power). After about 5 or so minutes of that I was finally able to get a good spinkick in and the rest is history.

Definately one of the best games ever!

10/10

right on! i was going to open this thread, but now i don't have to!

my favorite game has to be a tie between Mike Tyson's Punch Out and Bionic Commando.

there were some kickin' original games for that system: Castlevania, Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt...

okay, pop quiz....

what is this code for?

up-up-down-down-left-right-left-right-b-a-b-a hold select and start

i hope i remembered that correctly, but might be wrong on the end there....

my only complaint about the NES was the design and its overall durability. 1) you always had to rig the game to get it to play by a few different techniques on the older ones 2) the RF converters were not made to take on and off, and broke easily.

other than that, yeah - NES, baby!

That would be the code for 30 lives in Contra...awesome game

I don't think you had to hold select at the end. Just press it then press start and there ya go. I could be wrong however.

i think you are right about the select thing

i have to say that when the NES was around, we didn't have the internet. We had Nintendo Power Magazine. That was the only way you could get codes that were new.

i plugged my nintendo in recently, and, man, the net makes those games waaayyyy easier.

i think video games fans today are spoiled by the net - not to say i wouldn't have minded that sort of help :)

I have another complaint about the NES design:

Those controllers were the least ergonomically designed things in the history of video game systems. Those things tore your hands up more than the Atari joysticks. -- However, I will give them credit for being sturdy. I dln't know how many times I THREW mine, and they never broke.

anyone agree on that?

Ahh, the classic Contra code. I believe their is an "Ataris" song with the same title.

In Super Contra there was only a code for ten lives but it was very similar to the firts code, I forget exaclt but if I had a controller in my hand I could do it. Years of Nes has been embeded into my mind and I still love the fucker.

I actually ripped off some level music from Super Contra and turned int inot a fast metal/punk tune that rocks ass!!! I hope the programmers aren't reading this thread....

(looks around nervously)

Nice Lists guys, brings back fond memories of my youth.
I loved Shadowgate but I never could beat the damn thing so I decided to look it up on the net awhile back and Damn I was like two seconds away from beating it and had to do the stupest thing. Guess I will have to pull the old system out!

Did anyone ever play Burgertime- where you have to run over all the pieces of a burger?

Haha, I'm inundated with nostalgia; That final battle was amazing. I remember throwing Jimmy onto the spikes over the side of the platform, and staring in mute horror and shock as he got back up from this surely fatal blow and proceeded to kick my ass :). Great game dude.

I can't believe no one mentioned Metroid...that game rocked!!! To me, no gaming system will ever instill the excitement I felt when my parents bought me a Nintendo for Christmas all those years ago.

I'm not sure if I was just really bad at that game or it was extremely difficult. I had problems just getting off the third stage! And I heard the game never ended.

I probably have too many to think of offhand, but here's a couple gems:

River City Randsom - c'mon, where else can you get characters to say, 'BARF!'

Bad News Baseball - quite possibly Tecmo's best baseball game NOT endorsed by MLB (thank God!)

Super Mario Bros. 3 - what kind of Nintendo list would this be if Mario weren't in here?

Super Dodge Ball - hellz yeah! how fun is it to hit people with balls and get away with it?

Mega Man 3 - the best of the series (not including spin-offs)

Punch-Out! - either flavor is good, but beating the crap out of Mike is better

Final Fantasy - the one that started it all

The Legend Of Zelda - why can't you beat the crap out of the wise man?

I love NES. It's the only system of nintendo that i like (no, i'm not kidding...). I remember seeing it in a big Toys 'r' Us bag that my parents hid in one of the closets (hehe, when i was little i could find anything :-) ) as my birthday present. When i played Super Mario Bros. for the first time, i knew i would be hooked on videogames forever. Oh man, were there awesome games for NES. Mario (3 was my fav), Rad Racer, Kung Fu, Punch-out, god so many i cant begin to remember them all. Sometimes i think nintendo shouldve just stuck with NES, i swear.

Then, some years later, for New Years i received a Sega Genesis. But that, my friends, is another story...
