That Nine Inch Nails video with the monkey attatched to the cross, it was good, because it was so freaky. It had these "Scene Missing" parts, they replaced actual scenes with the scene missing screens, I saw it on VH1's The Most Shocking Music Videos Ever Made.

Anyone remember U2's video for "Numb"? Classic minimalism.

But I dunno - I so rarely watch MTV anymore, so current videos escape my criticism. Some other favorites:

"Karma Police" - Radiohead
"Criminal" - Fiona Apple
"Smack My Bitch Up" - Prodigy
"Closer to God" - Nine Inch Nails
"Nightswimming" - R.E.M.
"Bittersweet Symphony" - The Verve
"Cradle of Love" - Billy Idol

I also dig Weezer's Keep Fishin' but I still think their best video is Spike Jonze's version of Island in the Sun. Got to be the cutest video ever...

I'm likely gonna get the piss ripped out of me but I saw the video for Robbie Williams "Come Undone" the other night. It was totally over the top but, fair play, pretty fucking entertaining and lewd enough to suffer a fair amount of censorship though the old pixelisation technique. Oh...and if you don't like creepy crawlies...this is a video to avoid. Major yuck!!! Bugs crawling out of womens mouths and over faces. Crazy shit.

My all time favorite music video would have to be The Perfect Drug - NIN . My god what a beautiful video! I can't even begin to describe how badass that video is. Very dark and alluring.

All-time favorite:

"Where the Wild Roses Grow" - Nick Cave & Kylie Minogue
Nick has seduced Kylie, taken her to the river, and killed her with a rock. The video goes from there, as he acts insane and she floats and looks creepy.

Other awesome videos:

"The Mercy Seat" - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Nick is on Death Row. Nifty stuff.

"Sour Girl" - Stone Temple Pilots
Strange fuzzy creatures and some really nifty dancing. Sarah Michelle Gellar is there. I don't pretend to understand it all.

"Pure Morning" - Placebo
Brian Molko prepares to jump off a very tall building.

"Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades" - Brand New
Jesse Lacey shows up in a bar where he can control everyone else's movements. Has nothing to do with the song, but is nifty nonetheless.

"Closer" - Nine Inch Nails
Has been mentioned many times, and rightly so. Bizarre, fucked-up imagery and a really creepy monkey. The edited version is almost freakier than the unedited one.

"Weapon of Choice" - Fatboy Slim
Christopher Walken dances. Hilarity ensues.

Some of my favs are..

*Since I Left You - The Avalanches. (Chubsy the Miner cutting the rug, and quite a sad ending.)

*Where's Your Head At? - Basement Jaxx. (First time I saw those faces, I freaked.)

*Come Into My World - Kylie Minogue. (Clever stuff from Michel Gondry.) As is..

*Star Guitar - The Chemical Brothers. (Cool time lapse photography from a train.)

okay, absolute favorite is...

"take on me" by a-ha - it's one of the few videos i remember from the 80s and the emotion is so evident (the part at the end where he's slamming himself off the walls makes me cry to this day)

some other hall of famers include:

pretty much anything by michael jackson, esp. thriller (yeah...in addition to all the classics like "beat it", i liked "do you remember the time" and "black or white"...don't judge me)

"sledgehammer" by peter gabriel- the best part is at the end when he becomes the stars

i don't know the name of the song, but it's by INXS and michael hutchence is standing in the foreground tossing cards with words on them...it's a tribute to an older short film, i believe

"white wedding" by billy idol- if that happens at my wedding, i'll cry!

"november rain" by guns n roses- if that happens at my wedding, i'll DEFINITELY cry!

"i want your sex" by george michael- my first "tingle in the pants" feeling....ahhhh....<writes on the first available naked man w/lipstick>

"wicked game" by chris issak- the imagery is so beautiful

"money for nothing" by the dire straits- that video was so trippy, but i loved it! :)

"talk hard. steal the air."

My fave music video is "My Immortal" by Evanessence. This music video shows Amy Lee in such a positive and beautiful light that is not very easy to describe. This video has a classic look to it not to mention that it is set overseas and has a kind of Old Timey feel to it. It also manages to show the emotion that is involved in the song. The song involves hurt and lonliness and i believe that the music video definitly captured those emotions.

i don't think it's my favorite, but the video for Faith No More's "Epic" really nailed me just because of the end scene w/the fish flopping around at the end, dying.

i was like 5 or 6 when i saw that and it's still in my memory to this day...depressing
