Man, I've looked around and looked around this board and what I've seen is greatness...seriously I am fuckin' amaZed! The majority of the schomes seem to be into the right stuff, the "good old tunes", no shit just "the good old tunes" - The Beatles, PINK FLOYD, RADIOHEAD, THE VINES, LED ZEPPELIN, The White Stripes, R.E.M. you name it...I just wish that someone mentioned oasis but I suppose I could understand why most people wouldn't like 'em. But this whole scene is fuckin' incredible, in my society (I live in Melbourne, Australia) EVERYONE (with the acception of like 10 people) is into R&B/RAP/HIP-HOP, DANCE, TECHNO and that's shitting me right up the fuckin' wall! Why the fuck doesn't anyone love the "good old tunes"? But then I come to THIS FORUM and everyone's all happening! The schmoes are eXcellent people!
ROCK THE FUCK ON!

I think I mentioned oasis somewhere. They are great lyricists, and all around musicians. The second best band to come out of the UK. The first being The Beatles.

Mr. Brown, man, you are so right. The state of music is worsening, with all the attention spiraling into rap/hip-hop and dance. We gotta keep the good stuff alive!

This is ridiculous. (not your post Nate) -- but the mental block you people seem to have that makes you think people can't like ALL types of music.
1. don't you think your grandparents said the same stuff about the music you are calling "good old tunes"?
2. there are acts that successfully maintain the spirit of the old stuff and still make music that is FRESH (and I'm not talking about Limp Biskit)
3. How many people here have taken any courses in music appreciation?
4. How many topics are we really going to have devoted to underminding modern music or genres other than straight-foward rock.
5. How much dance and hip-hop have you really listened to?

I agree with you here Bubba. I can't stand to listen to rap, r&b, hip-hop, dance, or country but I dont deny the fact that some of them are talented muscians.
Just because you don't appreciate a certain type or genre of music doesn't automatically mean that is has no musical value or quality. There are plenty of rock bands that suck big time and dont deserve half the credit they get. In fact there are probably a lot more rock bands that aren't talented compared to other genres.

Hey, people can enjoy what they want. Free country. But I'm allowed to have an opinion too. If people can enjoy dance and hip-hop, why can't they enjoy older stuff too? I love R&B, and I'm OK with country, but I hate dance and hip-hop. But don't think for a second that I think those artists have no talent. I dislike their music, but I do think that some have talent. Less talent than in other fields however. How much talent does it take to scream (literally, scream) about beating cops and women, among other things? I know that this is not everyone in rap/hip-hop, but there are some, too many. I have taken music appreciation classes, I take one currently in fact, I am a musician, and I am very aware that there are really terrible rock bands. Very aware. Most of them come from my town! ;)

I suppose that I am in the minority but I absolutely DISLIKE The White Stripes, The Vines, The Strokes, The Hives, etc.
There music is just so blah and headache inducing IMO.
My music collection consists of a mixture of all genres (except metal). Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, Mary J Blige, Coldplay, Bush, Natalie Imbruglia, Santana, Aerosmith, Mamas and The Papas, Michelle Branch, Elvis, LifeHouse, Nas, TLC, matchbox 20, Tim McGraw, Dixie Chicks, Robbie Williams, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Britney Spears, Def Leppard.....etc.
Do I have "good taste" in music???? I think I do, my tastes reflect who I am, a person who likes what he likes because he likes it.

Woah, I'm sorry guys if I've pissed anyone off but everything I meant to say has been taken out of context therefore raising the heat. I'm not saying that people aren't allowed to listen to shit music, and I'm not saying that R&B, DANCE and TECHNO are shit, just simply that "I think" it's shit. And all I wanted to say was that I'm flattered that the majority of people in this forum like the "good old tunes", seriously it's fucking amazing! It's a fact that most of the people here like similar shit to the music I like and that's cool.
OK? Is that cool? I know that there's a few who like different music but here in Melbourne, Australia EVERYONE like R&B and DANCE and that's why I find this forum breath-taking because almost everyone here loves awesome music (awesome music in my fuckin' opinion).
But chill out everyon, all you need is love.

ONE OTHER THING...
Sure, we're all allowed to listen to whatever the fuck we want but that aside the music I and a few other love IS fading away, pop-culture used to be rock 'n' roll, now it's dance/rap and that's a fuckin' fact! I'm woried that soon rock won't even exist, rock 'n' roll is already dead, what's to stop ROCK from dying out? I'm not saying that RAP should go and get fucked (although "I" would like it to) but ROCK should be more recognised, most breathtaking lyrics come from rock bands a lot of rap artists sing (or talk) about shit, when rock dies out what will happen to the good of society???
