No idea, isn't it a bit early for PS3 though? PS2 is only 2 years old. I'd reckon that Sony will probably announce something on the next console (PS3 or whatever it's gonna be called) in the next few years.

Yes.
Here is the little I know about it:
- It will come out in 2005
- It is said that it will be 1000 times more powerful than PS2
I dunno for you, for this sounds just like a nice pile of bs. 1000 times? Gimme a break damnit.

A 1000 times? I guess we'll be controlling human beings.

It's not really 100* that's just tech speak, remember when they said that the Nintendo 64 was as powerful as a cray supercomputer? hmm yea right! The PS3 will be powerful but the cell processor is only theoretically 1000* more powerful than an P4 2.5 ghz, it works by running multiple cores and that would be so expensive to produce that it'd just be stupid. And we should all know by now that the speed of a PC/console doesn't just rely on the processor speed shouldn't we?
Also notice that Toshiba are co-financing the production of the cell processor, me no trust them.

Something I've read on the sunject:
Sony remains tight-lipped about the much anticipated Playstation 3, which is expected to be released in 2005. The latest speculation is that the PS3 may not be a console at all.
A Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman was quoted as saying "The ideal solution would be having an operating system installed in various home appliances that could run game programs."
A chip project being co-produced by Sony, IBM, and Toshiba code-named "Cell" is a four-year project set for completion in 2005. The cell is supposed to be able to create a powerful processor for home electronics with such features as high speed Internet connections that could transmit high-resolution moving pictures among other things.
