Dark Water - questions about the ending (Spoilers)

Has anyone seen this new Japanese ghost story directed by Hideo Nakata (from the Ring)? It's the one about the mom and her daughter moving into a new apartment where water leaks from the ceiling. And there's a ghost...

Well if anyone has, can someone help me figure out the ending?

I got a tad confused while watching it last night. The mother is in the elevator with the ghost girl and then the mom says... "I am your mother." Did she really mean that? Or was she just saying it?

x.x Basically, was the mom also the mom of the ghost girl?

OK I would first point out that I have seen this film, but I was drunk at the time so if this makes no sense, fine.

I thought the mum saying that the child was hers was just a way for her to make up for her, in her eyes, being a bad mother to the other child- late picking her up etc..

I didn't like this film, I thought it was a carbon copy of ring only not as good.

Well, it was written by the author of the Ring series, and directed by the same director. Of course it'd have similar things. But the Ring lacked one thing that Dark Water does very well - emotional drama. I felt really bad for the mother and the daughter and the emotion was just so overtaking. I did like the movie, but it's not a brilliant movie.
