I'll admit that this is just my little opinion, but I think Bill Paxton deserves an Oscar nod for his performance in FRAILTY.
The problem is that FRAILTY is the kind of movie that the Academy hates: It's dark, violent, innovative, and bound to piss off all the right people.
So, what does everyone think? Will the schlubs behind the Oscars do the right thing and acknowledge Paxton's work, or will they piss on the flick FIGHT CLUB/MEMENTO sytle?

it wasn't seen by many people, so that also counts against it. It'll probably be pissed on like FC and Memento, but should hopefully find new life on video/dvd

Paxton would have to send out Frailty to all the Academy voters. If HE thinks he's good enough for at least a nomination, then he'll do it (I don't think he'd consider it though).

why? the direction was kind of bland IMO, it detracted from the over-all film, which managed to come off as a serial killer re-tread only set apart by its supernatural element and expected "twist" ending. ive never called a film overrated before, but this one is, major. i suppose my expectations were a little too high.

I doubt it; Fraility probably isn't "mainstream" enough for the Academy to regard as worthy of their attention.

I didnt like frailty either,i dont think it was down to my expectations being high i just thought the film was stupid.Bill Paxton was ok in his role but not Oscar worthy.

Fair enough, individual opinions and all that. But actually I was referring to Paxton's acting and not directing.
For the record, I did find his directorial work fairly impressive, not because it was astonishingly innovative, but because it was surprisingly competent for a man who had never directed before and had the dual challenge of also starring in the movie.
But that's a discussion for another time...

again, i dont think there was anything special about paxton's performance. he's much better at playing the OTT characters, like Severen in NEAR DARK. i suppose he did well directing considering, but other actors have done the same with more favorable results(Dennis Hopper, Clint Eastwood). anyway, i think his style of directing didn't complement the script at all, it had sort of a "Fake" atmosphere to it. kinda inhibited any tension in the film.

I rented this tonight (grabbed the last copy on the shelf thank you very much!). It looks to me like it is a very suspenseful, very deep, and very dark film. Im gonna watch it later, once my parents go to bed, that way they wont knock on my door or distract me in some way. I'll check back here later and post my 2 cents about the film.

Frailty is easily one of the best films this year, just after One Hour Photo. Everything about it was just incredible. The original shocking premise, the twists, the script, the directing, and the acting. I definitly think Bill Paxton gave one of the top performances of the year, but like already stated this movie is clearly a turn-off for the academy. :(

i actually do think PAXTON will recieve a best director nod. you have to keep in mind FRAILTY is one of the best reviewed movies of the year, which is usually what makes for an academy awards (at least) nomination!

Well, Frailty as a movie had quite a few holes in it. It was a good first-directorial effort though, and his performance and Matthew McConaughey's performances were excellent. That few people saw it counts against it, but who knows he may be nominated. It came out this year...I'd also be very surprised if Al Pacino isn't nominated for Insomnia, but who knows.

Since I haven't seen it, I can't really intelligently comment.
However...I would like to point out that he should have gotten a Best Actor nomination for One False Move. I defy anyone with a heart to watch that and not be shaken and blubbering after the final 10-15 minutes.
I'd like to see him win an Oscar just so he could get up there and start the whole "Well, this is just GREAT man, this is just great! Game over, man! Game over!"
Ah, but Oscars are reserved for mega-talents like Julia Roberts...

Well, Bill Paxton has no chance of getting an Oscar nomination for Frailty. I mean, let's get serious here. Does he deserve one for acting? Probably. For directing? No.
