Do other Nirvana fans agree with me? I think In Utero definitely shows more depth in the band's work than Nevermind, and the songs are better on the former as well. Don't get me wrong, I still think Nevermind is an excellent album and one of the 90's, but it's still a tad overrated when compared to In Utero.

I'm going to have to disagree. Being a big fan of all Nirvana's albums I like both but I think Nevermind is better. It's the album that introduced me to the band.
I will say, however, that In Utero has one of the best, and one of my favorite, songs on it...All Apologies.

Dude, I totally agree with you that In Utero is better! The lyrics are more intense, all the members gell together nicely, and is all around just a GREAT album! 10/10

I'd have to say Bleach is the better album out of all of them.
My favourite is Outcesticide:in memory of Kurt Cobain which has over 20 tracks on it most of which are either different or not on the other albums. My favourite song would have to be Sappy.

I have a CD that sounds exactly like that one only it's called Pay to Play. It has a bunch of never before heard songs as well. It's even got Courtney Love's reading of Kurt's suicide note on MTV which is nice to listen to every once in awhile.

In Utero is better then Nevermind for sure, Nevermind should have been put out in the demo stage before Andy Wallace butchered it with his multilayering and overdubs and shit. This way, however, it would have gotten lost among other SubPop releases of 1991. Anyways, this is not to say that I don't like Nevermind, I dig it, but.. I dunno, I 've never been a huge Nirvana fan, so I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about... My fav would have to be From The Muddy Banks of the Wishkah, it really captured the "raw explosive energy" of Kurt.

I prefer Nevermind to In Utero, but only just.I think both have the same number of great songs but In Utero has a few I really don't like (Scentless Apprentice and Very Ape).
I also love their MTV Unplugged album, there are a couple of songs(All apologies, Dumb and About a girl) which sound better unplugged IMO

I totally agree dude, In Utero is far more supirior in a way that Nevermind could never capture. The songwrighting is more evolved, the lyrics are better and the Drum's sound so much better than on Nevermind. I also like Nevermind but In Utero beats it in Nirvana quality. Raw, untouched(except HSB, AA, PT) and just plain brilliant. It was the only album that had full lyrics iuncluded for the tunes, other that tourettes but you know what thats about.
all in all I'd have to say In Utero is their best album.
In Utero 10/10
Incesticide 9/10
Unpugged 9/10
Bleach 8/10
Nevermind 8/10
Wishka 7/10
But the best tune has only appeared on a compilation, uncredited nontheless.

i can't say one is better than another. i go through phases where sometimes i prefer nevermind, sometimes in utero. it's like asking if sgt. peppers is better than the white album.
or how many licks it takes to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop.

I'm not a Nirvana fanatic, but out of the albums that I've heard, Incesticide is my favorite. It's got that inexplicable "coolness" to it. Maybe it's the rubber ducky, maybe it’s the gritty production values, or maybe it’s the catchy melodies. I'm not sure. One thing's for sure; "Aneurysm" fucking rocks!!!

What's the name of that track on "No altern"? Is it a hidden track or something? I know they had a song on Rarities Vol 1 and another one on Beavis and Butthead Experience, "I hate myself and wanna die" I believe it was called.

The song is called "Verse Chorus Verse..." Not a very good song though, imo.
I cant resist staying away form a Nirvana thread..I consider myself a pretty big fan, but I've NEVER heard of a bootleg called Pay To Play (I love the song though!). Of course, there ARE about a zillion floating around (...I'm sure you all know someone who got obsessed and vowed to track down Every nirvana recording but got totally discouraged about a third of the way through...I love those guys!)
For a long time I considered In Utero to be their best album.....they are by far Kurt's best lyrics and the fact that, as an artist, we'd never be sure where Kurt could go from after that, always made it exciting to me (for a few reasons....) ....but I can always fall in love with nevermind after months of neglecting it...its easy to listen to, they're working as a BAND (which we really didn't see much of in Uterro, and its reminds me of that one time, when you were young and listening to Nirvana made you feel like you were really bad ass... I'm sure the schmoes who are around my age know what I'm talking about.....that age when you start listening to music and the most accessable album in the entire world (if you have older brothers and sisters) is Nevermind.. the naughtyness of the cover and total mystery of what these guys were actually saying... I cant wait to get my kids to listen to Breed!!!!!

Actually, The tune is called "Sappy". There was alot of confusion over which tune was called "Sappy", "Verse Chorus Verse" and "In his hands" in the past. They were all mixed up and the names got switched around. The truth is that "Sappy" is the No Alternative track, "Verse Chorus Verse "is the tune on Outcesticide 2 with the chorus that sings "In his hands" and there is no tune called "In his hands". It was just a hallucination of a radical bootlegger. This has all been confirmed by Krist, the only dude ALIVE that would truely know.
And IMO, "Sappy" is Nirvana's best song ever. I guess we can agree to disagree though. Whats your fav. tune Romero?
I think the way Nevermind was produced is inferior than In Utero. It didn't have the raw aggression that In Utero had and it seemed to radio freindly. Even tunes like Breed and Territorial pissings were "Butch Viged" and it made them seem "tra-la-la". Don't get me wrong, I love Nevermind but I think it was best that Nirvana stayed Unproduced and unedited, best displayed in their other releases. One take of goodness, no remix.
Although I wonder where Nirvana would be these days If Nevermind was as raw as In Utero.
Still in my album collection, thats for sure.

okay -- settle this for me. people say I'm hearing things
on IN UTERO, the song "SERVE THE SERVENTS" (track 1, i think) --
During the guitar solo - it sounds like someone either coughs, or starts to sing. it's happens 2 bars before the vocals come back in. -- it really sounds like Kurt starts to sing again, because it's on the beat.

Bubba: From what I can hear its Kurt mumbling "serve." But you DID have me go down and dig out my In Utero CD! THANKS!
Linus!! Glad to know such a great fan of the band!!! I've been listening to them since I was about eight years old and I'll be dammned if I'm ever gonna give them up any time soon..
To be honest, I HAVE been kind of neglecting them for a while..but you can always pick them up and fall in love with them all over again!
(I've heard about a million different names for different songs.. lol, I go by what I hear it being called most frequently..)
Favorite song? I have a bunch of favorite songs!! Depending on the mood I'm In, I'll rave about a perticular album...
hrmm.... Paper Cuts, and Breed will always have a soft spot.. The only way I can describe them is "evil." Leadbelly's really shining through on most of bleach, and I LOVE it!
Seeing Nevermind released as a Glassy, washed over pop-album was fucking HILARIOUS!! I think everybody kindasorta knew the power that the tracks posessed, so why not glam them up....?! Whether it'd sink or swim is totally irrelevant: Either way, the band would come out looking pretty damn slick.

Thanks dude, Oh yes I have been a big fan since childhood as well. But I never stopped liking them or liked them more because of..death. I hope I'm listening to Unplugged when I pass away. That would be bliss.
Yeah, I actually used to call it VCV myself before I found out the real title to the tune. Every once and a while I slip a VCV but ultimately, I'M ALL SAPPY BABY!
Wow, I never heard of Paper Cuts being their favorite tune, I guess now can say that I have. Its a great, raunchy tune. Kinda metal-ish but still rockin. I love how Kurt sings Nir-van-a instead of Nir-von-a. Hilarious~
It is pretty funny Hearing Nevermind with the "watery" producing qualities, I still love it, but not as much as In Utero.
Is it just me or is Frances Farmer will have her revenge on Seattle not one of the most rockin Nirvana songs ever?!! I think I'll throw it on now.

I don't pick favorites. Both albums are highly enjoyable though. I'm getting the nostalgia man: Eight grade, getting in trouble for wearing music T-shirts, discovering teenage rebellion with this band (and Korn), the exuberance, the anxiety.. Ahh, The joys of adolescence.

i love Scentless Apprentis - that was their openning song when i saw them live. (bam-bam-bambam-ba-bam-ba-bam-ba-bambam)
i always thought verse-chorus-verse was the hidden track on Nevermind. I'm pretty sure I'm right.
My friend had this European release of IN UTERO that featured a hidden track (fast fwd past "all apologies"- starts like 18 minutes into the track.)
It was awesome, but my friend is gone, and this is before the days of CD burners.
Has anyone heard this track, do you have it available, and is their anyway you could get it to me?

one other thing - i have this mix tape in my car that someone made long ago.
it has a song that is sung by Dave G. and goes something like, "He's sad, cause i want it all."
what's the title?
Who's heard "Moist Vagina"?
Jason Voorhees

Marigold, I believe, is the title. I could be wrong, but I'm almost certain that is it.
Anyone care to confirm or correct? Thanks in advance for any info.
ADDENDUM: I checked it out, Marigold is indeed the title.

The name of the hidden track on Nevermind was "Endless Nameless". Verse chorus verse was an old b-side(not the no-alternative tune)
The title of the In Utero(European) hidden track is "Gallons of Rubbing alcohol run through the strip". Cool name, eh?!
And yes I have heard "Moist vagina", wicked tune. It has a few similarities with the progressions of "You know your right". The lyrics are kinda like a narrative of smoking a joint.
She had a moist vagina
I tickled the circumfrence
I sucked the walls of her Anus, of her anus!
I prefer her to any other! Marijuana!
goodness!!
