Ghostwatch

October 31st 1992. That’s a night I will never forget in my life I was just 10 years old and was
already a hardened horror fan so I had no worries about watching a program with people like
Craig Charles and Michael Parkinson in it. This is going to be about as scary as an episode of
He-Man I thought. How wrong I was.
I didn’t even make it to the end and had to wait ten years before I finally found a copy on tape.
I didn’t sleep properly for weeks.
Looking at it now I wonder just how so many people were fooled in to thinking it was real. As a
kid it’s easy to believe but now as an adult it’s quite easy to see that the family are nothing more
than actors, and very poor ones at that. Also the wind in the studio and some of the callers
make it a little fake.
The attention to detail is amazing. Note the television in the haunted house has the program on
as well.
One thing I really love about Ghostwatch is all of the hidden appearances of Pipes. It is quite
simply the scariest thing ever made especially if you saw it that night and thought it was real.
It would be great if the BBC released a DVD but it seems unlikely.
Hats off to Stephen Volk for this classic show that has gone down in history.

10/10

I saw this beauty "live". It still remains the scariest film I've ever seen - and this wasn't entirely down to the fact that I thought it might actually be real. Some of it was really realistic but the little possessed girl was a really crap actor. If she was better I might have been 100% fooled by this.
What was convincing were the normally squeeky clean presenters having anything to do with this evil little production :) .
I wish I could have this experience again. Watching something as scary as this and thinking it might be real.

I loved this up until the point where the lights went out in the B.B.C studio and micheal parkinson basic freaking out like a confused sealing out clubbing.
When the girl was telling the viewers of the ghost that haunted her room called "PIPES" I was frightend to she a ghostly figure standing by the curtians.
However at thirteen you could see througth it by the time Craig Charles was explaining about a dog dying whilst giving birth to a still born pup.
When I heard that the B.B.C appoligied because so many people thoguht to REAL I was dumbfounded fair enougth at 10 you may think it was real but some of the people who called and complained were adults with broken voices and dropped balls.
I would give it 6/10
For effort and originality because who would have thought the B.B.C could come up with this maverick.
