Saw it on a dare if i would watch the whole thing before i through something at the TV
Ok well i guess i can sum up Jason X in one word....CRAP!
this movie was terrible, Jason seems to be less aggressive but im probably not the first person to think of this. I did however think about one thing. Would a horror character such as Jason voorhees spare me? Most likely not seeing that most of the world would shoot me at a moments chance, but for instance with the terrible line "He just wanted his machete back" i was like how would i negotiate with a horror character? oh well guess ill never need to know....at least i hope not.

Jason X
Starring - Lexa Doig, Kane Hodder
Plot
In Jason X we get plenty of Jason slicing and dicing horny teenagers, only this time it's in space. After a school group finds the frozen corpse of Jason, along with another unidentified female they bring them, aboard their ship. Once the female thaws out she warns them of what they brought on the ship. Jason thaws and all hell breaks loose.
Review
Jason X is pure mindless entertainment. This is not a movie that is trying to win awards or reinvent the genre. It's just there to showcase the series' biggest draw, Jason Vorhees. This movie delivered exactly what I've come to expect from the series: bad plotting, crappy dialogue, annoying characters, gory deaths, and Jason Vorhees.
And by damn if I didn't enjoy every minute of it. This movie was fun...plain and simple. In a time when Michael Myers seems to be on life support, it's good to see that Jason is still a cut above the rest.
Final Score
7/10

I loved the entirety of Jason X. Sure, the acting was bad, the space thing cliche, and the effects only decent but it was such fun!
I don't think I was bored once throughout.
Jason X starts with the freezing of Jason Voorhees. Jason escapes and slaughters the team with the only one left alive running for her life. Jason corners himself in the cryogenic freezer and she freezes him along with herself. MANY years later they are found and are thawed out by a spaceship full of horny party goers. Jason then goes on a huge killing spree with some very gory and effective deaths.
Acting- Not very good but campy as it should be.
Directing- Isaac gives this flick a very slick look that sort of hides the low budget. Lots of cool shots down hallways and in dark rooms.
Gore- 10/10
Tons!!! Frozen face bashed off, impalings galore, severed parts, Jason's limbs and head are blown off (not a spoiler, don't worry), arm cut off, cut in half body, someone's sucked through a mesh grating, and more!!!!!!
Nudity- 6/10
Lisa Ryder sort of shows her breasts but she has makeup covering the nips to make it look like she has none (she's a robot). Two campers show off their breasts. There's also a nip slip from the blonde and some other possible slippage.
Final Verdict- 8/10

JASON X was easily the best movie I've seen all year. Sure the dialogue wasn't great but JASON'S extremely violent attitude made up for anything. The kill sequences were great and had some of the best in the series. UBER JASON was awesome but I just wish he had more screentime. I can't wait for another sequel. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Holy shit! How did I miss this thread?????? My apologies for posting a duplicate topic. Anyway, here's my review:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00006FI0R.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
MINOR SPOILERS
Days before the release, my friends were blindsided with my unremitting glorification of Jason Voorhees. I was fucking pumped to see this flick, and they were going to know about it. However, none of my peers shared this enthusiasm. Almost all of them stated that the F13 series had run itself into the ground and that the tenth installment looked ridiculous. And…they were correct! Of course it looked ridiculous. It’s about a hockey-masked nutjob stalking people in outer space! Were they seriously expecting a challenging, thought-provoking time at the cinema? Seemingly, the public just isn’t interested in having fun with b-movies anymore. Jason X has been the recipient of some harsh criticism, but I enjoyed it for what it was -- MINDLESS ENTERTAINMENT. It didn't set out to excel in all areas of filmmaking. It's harmless cheese, and frankly, that’s all it needed to be.
It’s apparent that one of Jim Isaac’s main objectives was to devise gory, creative death sequences for gorehounds to sink their fangs into. He certainly didn’t let us down! As the cute blonde’s iced visage shattered into several pieces, I nearly had an orgasm! The rest of the bloodletting isn’t quite as memorable, but Mr. Voorhees still slices and dices like a pro. I hope that Ghostface and The Fisherman were taking comprehensive notes. The pace is brisk and energetic. My eyelids never grew heavy. I should note that that the opening credits were some of the most inventive and stylish that I’ve seen in recent memory. Also on the eye candy front, the females in this flick are HOT! Incredible casting job! Even if some of these lovely ladies aren’t the most superlative actresses in the world, their beauty compensates for it.
Now to the unfortunate downfalls that plague this film. As many recognized, some of the dialogue was beyond unrealistic and Kay-Em, who delivers the most abhorrent lines in the film, did give me a pounding headache. I’ll never be able to grasp how certain characters in certain films have the ability to spew forth clever, witty one-liners while stuck in undeniably perilous scenarios. Also, the cast is chalked full of nameless, forgettable, and interchangeable characters that I couldn’t tell apart from one another. Most of them are one-dimensional, and I spotted a couple of Vasquez clones running around. There were moments when I felt as though I was watching a Sci-fi Channel original, which is NOT a good feeling.
It’s easy to pardon such flaws, though. This is a popcorn movie above all else. A surplus of plot holes, underdeveloped characters, bad dialogue, and outlandish storylines is to be expected. Just unplug your think tank and indulge in this enjoyable slasher. The holographic “crystal lake” scene is worth the price of admission alone. “We love premarital sex!”
My rating-3.5/5

I'll post a little review by me.
PLOT: Jason magically gets out of hell and appears in chains, gets free, goes to space...
REVIEW: Ok, I remember being so excited for this flick. But it kept getting pushed back more and more. Finally, I got my hands on a cop 2 or 3 months before it's April release. Watched it all excited. Hated it. Ugh, horrible. Bad music, number one which really bothers me. If a movie has bad music it's going to hurt the movie. Then the acting. Rowan and all the other nameless characters in the movie were all stupid and boring. Let alone the idea of just going to space is just the lamest idea. It's when a horror icon is apparently not wanted so he is shipped off to space. Leprechaun anyone? So I for one think this is one of the worst in the whole series. But for SOME unkown reason I'm going to be buying the DVD:p

Yeah Jason X was a very good film IMHO it wasn't trying to be anything special just giving the fans more of what they love. The kills were great and it was very humourous in places overall a great film best horror of this year.

A highly entertaining popcorn flick, proving that you can take Jason away from the camp, but you can't take the camp away from Jason (and I love him for it).

JASON X
9/10
Okay, okay, okay. I know you want answers for 9/10. And you will get some. I dont have anymore to say, I'm lonely.
UP SIDES
-Jason Voorhees is back-And smashing frozen faces
-Cyborg Jason-Stupid as hell, but I loved it
-It knows it's stupid-It seems to know it's stupid, it knows it's retarded, but it's trying to be. It's not trying to be scary. I think it's trying to make fun of horror movies (this rightaway earns the movie a 7/10.)
-The diversion :)-Funny as fuck!
-Death, death, death-No point, just shows people getting brutally murdered every minute.
-Cyborg chick upgraded-It was the stupidest fucking thing I have ever seen, but I was laughing everytime I thought of her face and her little back turn shoot and her cart wheels, and a lot of other shit.
-Opening credits-It looks groooooovy
DOWN SIDES
-Ummmmmmm, I can't think of any.
So really I should have given this movie a 10/10, but then I would probably be gutted by all of you so I'll just give it a 9/10. Survey says...
BUY IT!

That was one of THE BEST moments in movie history. EVER. I watched that part like 15 times in a row, seriously.
Other than that, the movie bored me. The whole Crystal Lake recreation was pretty neat, though.
I don't feel like reviewing it, everyone else has already. I'll just give it a rating: Sleeping bag scene: 10/10. Majority of the movie: 4/10.

I cannot believe how many people love this movie! I thought it was horrible! It was easily the worst movie of 2002, and possibly one of the worst horror movies ever.
First of all, I just want to say that I DID NOT go into this movie expecting a masterpiece. I went in expecting a stupid, yet fun movie. Well, it delivered on the first count, that's for sure.
I am willing to suspend my disbelief, but I have never, ever, seen such a ridiculous movie. I don't mean the whole outer space scenario, even though that has been done before, and has never been done well. When I say that, I mean that the characters were so unbelievably stupid, and made the dumbest moves. I mean, seriously, what kind of person makes wisecracks when they are about to die?
Examples of the dumbest lines
"I'd clap if I could."
"This sucks on so many levels!""
"He just wanted his machete back!"
"It will take more than a small poke in the ribs to get rid of this old dog."
I have never cringed so many times watching a movie. Not one of the characters was likeable or believable, the acting was terrible, and the movie sports some of the worst dialogue in film history.
I cannot express how I feel about this movie. As the movie progressed, I just found myself in shock the whole time. I honestly could not believe my eyes! I never thought a Friday the 13th movie would eve be this laughable. And let me get this straight, I don't even like the Friday the 13th movies that much. I wouldn't give any of them more than 6 out of 10. But THEY are mindless entertainment! Jason X is not mindless entertainment, it's just crap!
However, I did get some laughs out of this. It was just so damn ridiculous! I just cannot believe that so many people enjoyed it! There are so many Friday the 13th lovers out there, I just don't get why they weren't offended by this. I mean, just think of an earlier Friday the 13th movie. Not the greatest movie, but still, occasionally scary, atmospheric, good music, a good killer. And now look at this movie! Look what has become of Jason Voorhees! He's a fucking joke! It's not remotely scary, it has none of the atmosphere of the earlier films, the ch-ch-ch music is all but gone, and by the end of the film, Jason is a fucking robot! The movie has abandoned all of its roots, and tried to do something new. This can be a great thing if the film accomplishes what they are aiming for. Jason X was trying to be funny and entertaining, and to me, it accomplished neither. It was irritating, sad, pathetic, and ridiculous. This movie is a travesty, a complete disgrace to the horror genre, and I will never understand why people accept what has become of Jason Voorhees. But most of all, this movie is why the horror genre is so disrespected! This and movies like this! Without movies like these, the horror genre could actually garner some respect. But no matter how many great horror movies come out, if crap like this continues to be made, the genre will be continue to be a mockery.
Why was there an android in a Friday the 13th movie! Did any of you actually expect to ever see Jason floating through space with a marine piggybacking him? God, this movie literally made me sick to my stomach. But most of all, it made me feel strangely depressed. Every time a character spouted another moronic one-liner (the android had tons, but thankfully, I forget them all), and every time the plot took another turn for the worse, I felt more and more depressed and annoyed. Yes, the Friday the 13th movies were never great, but I get a good feeling every time I watch one of them. I think I'm just going to try and pretend this movie never existed.

It had to happen sooner or later. Jason X, the tenth installment in the undying Friday the 13th series puts the masked killer in the 25th century. After being frozen for hundreds of years, he is revived aboard a interstellar craft, where he calmly picks up a machete and goes about his usual work. It sounds like a fan geek's dream, but that doesn't negate the fact that it's a pretty stupid movie. To be honest, it's also kind of dull up till the last act, more on that in a minute. Director James Isaac opens the film with a stylish credit sequence and sets up the story in a fairly interesting way, at least for a slasher. There is even a cameo by cult favorite David Cronenburg. However, as it goes on, it's clear that he has no real sense of pacing, nor does he often demonstrate the ability to scare us. To be fair, that would be hard to do with such flimsy material. It doesn't help that there are a couple of groan-inducing bits regarding severed body parts.
The production values are just so-so, betraying its low-budget origins. I would have been much more forgiving in this area if treated to a good story, but it was not to be. The special effects are sometimes adequate, sometimes blatantly fake-looking. I wasn't expecting anything as good as Ridley Scott's Alien, but at the very least, they should have tried to make it swift and entertaining. The sixth, seventh, and eighth entries were fun to watch in a cheesy sort of way. They were pretty silly, but certainly diverting. Jason X is just plain bad. However, at least the third act picks up a bit, as an android crewmember apparently finishes the killer off--until he is revived as a cyborg. Still stupid, but more watchable.
Needless to say, the acting is mediocre at best, but what could these performers have done with such poor material? At least Kane Hodder, as Jason, seems to be enjoying himself. One cast member in particular is as awful as Carrot Top, but he is thankfully dispatched early on. Lexa Doig, as the heroine, has some appeal, but there wasn't much she could do here. Most of the other actors are ineffectual at best, annoying at worst. I guess most slasher movies will always suffer these faults to a degree. This one certainly doesn't miss an obligation: the door is left open for a sequel.
3/10.

Excellent review. You've summed up my feelings perfectly.
To add to your review, one scene that many seem to point to as a favorite (the Crystal Lake scene at the end) is just not that original. Horror films referencing or paying homage to other horror films was made popular by Scream and it's clones. Here we have a Friday the 13th movie that is not only referencing prior installments, but making fun of them as well. It wasn't funny, just sad.
And what's with the humor in horror films these days. Friday parts 1, 2, 3, etc. had very little overt humor. That's what made them good - they focused on the horror, the intensity, and the killing. The comedic one-liners have ruined modern horror. Why can't someone make a serious horror film?

Great Review:D
I can describe Jason X in 2 words:
Dumb fun.
Yes, it's no more a classic than the other Friday films, but I thought the space setting gave it a certain appeal. More than any other Friday film, it actually acknowledges how dumb it is.
Also, Lexa Doig & Lisa Ryder are great eye candy.
I actually thought the film was more fun than Attack of the Clones or Andromeda(the series both Doig & Ryder star in).

I just finally watched this a few hours ago. I say finally because I had missed it in the theater and looking back after watching the movie I don't feel I missed much, and I saved $8. I'm pretty much in agreement with Cyclonus/Pumpkinhead/janesworld. I share most of their thougts on the film. My Maltin book says for diehard slasher fans only, I'd revise that to, for diehard Friday fans/Jason worshippers only. I wouldn't consider myself a big FT13 fan, I've seen them all, liked some, thought others were OK, didn't really like others....going into this entry I hadn't seen any Friday since last winter. Right off the bat I had trouble with the lack of cohesiveness/continuity with the rest of the series. Last time I checked Jason went to hell, and within the opening minutes, he's on earth, fully intact, in quite good condition. But after seeing the whole movie, the opening and maybe the first 20-30 minutes were the best parts of the movie. Because that setup was actually kind of promising. Some of the kills were good, and there was some decent gore, but that's most of the positive stuff right there. I don't think any of the characters worked, too much gunplay, there wasn't enough variation in weapons really (mostly just machete). There were parts were it dragged, the all-CGI exterior shots, and really most of the whole scifi deal didn't work, it just doesn't feel right for this series or the character. This isn't the Alien series. Horror series' have consistent histories as to making bad sequels set in space (Aliens series not withstanding). The movie gave me more of a Hellraiser IV, direct to video feel than it did the theatrical return of the FT13 franchise after 9 damn years. Even simple little things like the timeline are messed up, the movie mostly takes place in the year 2455, right, so that's 455 years supposedly after the opening. Yes, I know the film was made in 2000, but it doesn't even match up that way because the events of the opening, are at some point, (I'm not quite sure about this) said to have taken place in 2010. Also, I believe people to be spot on when they say that the one-liners here and there were just misplaced and stupid. People saying such absurd things in the face of potential death is just totally inappropriate (at least for this series), and it happens time and time again, so its not even like its only like that with one particularly strange or egotistical character. The musical score was also bad, if the credits hadn't said it was Manfredini in the beginning I would have never thought it was him, and I would have been asking for him to do the score! What was that, what a lame and odd score. Quite the divergence from his earlier work in the series with actual instruments. Now, I didn't think this movie was horrible or unwatchable, but it is flawed in many ways and I'm not one to have such blind devotion to a movie (at least not this one) to just ignore all said flaws and declare it a success. There was also too much comedy and humor, and the flashback scene (which I feel is another prime example of the disservice the movie did to the series and fans of the earlier movies) was dumb, and that did irritate me, making fun of the true roots of the FT13 series, it almost seemed like the two chicks, while being beaten in their sleeping bags, were laughing, I guess it was just me, but that just goes along with the rest of the movie in making a joke of Jason (I actually laughed a little when Uber-Jason appeared...that was just wrong) and the series. And speaking of Uber-Jason, who they put on the poster itself, and sported the tagline of evil gets an upgrade, he was in the film for all of what, 13 minutes? As this upgraded Jason, he kills all of NOBODY. And regarding the ending, was the planet they landed on supposed to be this Earth II business, the plot was pretty confused and full of holes but after thinking about it a little I think that's what it was supposed to be. If so, then how is there a Crystal Lake at Earth II, or is the lake the mask lands in supposed to be the 'new' Crystal Lake of Earth II. And could it be more convenient that that's where his remains land after falling from lightyears out in space?
I didn't hate it, like some, I certainly didn't love it, I certainly don't think this did much good for the Friday series in terms of genre fans or in the eyes of the masses, I am disappointed, it was fairly entertaining but did too many things wrong while I was watching it for me to say it was a good entry or one of the better entries or a good return for the series. There's always Freddy vs. Jason, which after seeing Jason X, I hope is much better. Though three of the same people are working on it, Cunningham, Manfredini, and the writer Victor Green.

This continuity error was intentional. Knowing that Freddy vs. Jason would eventually get underway, the filmmakers decided to set the events of Jason X after the events of Freddy vs. Jason. The latter will pick up where Jason Goes to Hell left off.
but that just goes along with the rest of the movie in making a joke of Jason (I actually laughed a little when Uber-Jason appeared...that was just wrong) and the series.
At this point, the F13 series was already a joke. Would you rather Jason X acknowledge its flaws or simply repeat them, setting itself up for harsh scrutiny? Nowadays, embracing self-referential humor is the only way for a slasher to be respected by mainstream moviegoers, especially one of this nature. It's a sad state of affairs, I know. Hopefully, this trend will taper off within the next few years.

For the record I am a really big fan of the Friday movies. I'll defend the first one till the end. I went in to Jason X knowing it was going to be mindless and really wanting to like it. But by the middle i was so unimpressed by the acting, dialogue, cheap space settings, unsuspenseful kills, music, and repetitive gunfire that bores you to a stuper. I hear that it is just harmless fun but i found myself bored most of the middle and the ending was the only part i enjoyed. The single most part the dissapointed me though was the music. It was so muddled and cheesy I couldn't believe it was from Manfredini that did the other brilliant Friday scores.
I agree with Cyclonus, Pumpkinhead, Alienclown,Janesworld, Pigfarmer, etc. All good assessments i thought. How could the earlier fridays be entertaining and actually a little scary while this one had zero scares. The earlier ones had some decent actors that were for the most part unknown that did a good job and how come the newcomers in X were so bad it was rediculous.
Here is my order of preference: 1,2,4,3,6,7,5,8,9,X

The movie was very funny, most of the time involuntarily. I found the acting was terrible even if I did had a blast with Cronenberg's part.
On the other hand, I'm not a expert of the Friday 13th series, so I didn't get all the self-references.
And I saw this french dubbed, which usually doesn't improve the general quality of the movie.
So, dumb fun maybe, but not fun enough for me to forget the dumb part.
But the positive reviews here make me think it deserves a second screening.
4/10 for now

MINOR SPOILERS
Just unplug your think tank and indulge in this enjoyable slasher. The holographic “crystal lake” scene is worth the price of admission alone. “We love premarital sex!”
My rating-3.5/5
My thoughts exactly Count! I loved the way that scene was shot. It felt like it took me right back to the originals. I don't know why, it just did. From there on out, I've loved Jason X.
7/10.

I'll admit that this movie had a couple of fun scenes and some laughs (Mainly the holographical Crystal Lake scene), but honestly it bored me. When Jason wasn't on screen I started dozing off. Plus, even though the chicks especially Lexa Doig and Janessa were hot, the acting and the characters were all terrible. I wasn't expecting an oscar winner, but IMO this is the worst acting in the entire series and the most annoying characters. The fact that both Kay-Em and her lover lived just pissed me off royally. The idiotic stoner in the beginning of the film had me just begging for him to die. The lame token slimy boss got on my nerves as well. The screenplays are never really good, but I just kept cringing lame line after lame line. The score was really bland and boring as well, I thought I was watching a Leprachaun movie for a second there. A few other things I enjoyed were the Brodski character, the T&A, and the gore. You can see more gore and T&A in IMO better Friday movies like JGTH and Part 5. For an actual fun and funny Friday movie, I prefer part 5, as well as 3 and 6. Zero scare factor as well, but I pretty much expected that since the series stopped being scary after part 4. Worst Film in the series at 3/10.

This movie is hog wash, apart from F13th Part 2 the whole damn franchise and anything to do with Jason can go to hell as far as I'm concerned.

Although I did hate Jason X, i will give it some credit for trying something new, unlike the Halloween series it's the same thing over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over.
Whoa Jagged Halo, you have 666 posts on Friday The 13th, creepy!

Jason X
(Evil Gets An Upgrade)
PLOT - A woman Rowan (Lexa Doig) and our famous hockey mask wearin menace Jason Voorhees (Kane Hodder), get frozen. Over 400 years later, them both get tooken aboard a ship by a professor and his students. Her and Jason are both thawed out, where Jason contines his body count by killing everyone that is on the ship.
REVIEW -By the looks of the movie. I thought it might actually be really good after seeing Jason turning into an Uber-Jason. Having the whole story basically take place in space made me think back to the Alien movies. But i didnt let that get in the way to screw up everything. I figured, this Jason. My 2 fav horror movie villan. So i watched it, and didnt really think to much positive about it. The body count was good, and the blood/gore was good enough for the gorehound inside of me.
Overall, i give Jason X a 7/10
