I'm into snes emulation with zsnes. It's the only system that I bothered emulating. Seiken Densetsu 3 and Gundam Wing: Endless Duel being my favorites.
I should realy fire up MAME one of those days to see what its like.
i dont use emulators for stuff like playstation and game cube
I imagine it would be hard. There is no gamecube emulators released. And even if there were, there would be no roms for it, since the games are on special DVDs and cant be read by standart DVD players. There could be a way to extract the data by using a similar technique as the one that was used to extract data from dreamcast games, but it has yet to be found. And since Nintendo is paranoid about that, I'm sure they found something to prevent it.

If you want emulators, try doing a search on Google (eg 'SNES emulators'). Of course a lot of sites are closing, due to the big corporations being funny about copyrights etc, but there are a few sites that still supply rom's
Here are a few sites where you can get emulators/games/info - Apologies as I cannot remember some of the URL's, so just put the name into google..
LEMON64 - www.lemon64.com
A great Commodore 64 site with info on alot of games. Also has a very good forum. Only has a few downloads, because of software houses being akward..
WORLDOFSPECTRUM - ????
The premier Speccy site..Info, Utilities, Emulators, over 5,000 games, forums, what more can you ask for?!
CHERRYROMS - ?????
A good SNES site with tons of downloads. The moderators on the forum are a bit facist however!
Hope this helps!!

A good site for keeping on top of the latest Emulation news is Retrogames.
www.retrogames.com
I recently bought a seven cd collection of all the roms available for mame recently. Over 3000 arcade games including every game ever released for the Neo Geo. I've yet to even scratch the surface.

Yeah I got those MAME roms burned from
someone. Luckily he did me a 'best of' disc as well, with the best (in his opinion) hundred or so games. In fact the guy is a mod on one of these forums, but I wont reveal his name...
What are your favourites so far, Psychocandy?

I a big fan of Capcoms stuff, Irem shooters like R-Type 1 & 2 and Leo, any Japanese vertical/horizontal shooters that are done with style, old stuff like Qix, newer stuff like the Puzzle Bobble series, Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands, Defender, a whole bunch of Neo Geo stuff...
Hell I like a lot. Trying to sort out the wheat from the chaff on the discs can be a little overwhelming though. For every good game there are ten that just aren't worth even looking at...EVER!!!
Still...one of my finer purchases of recent times.
I actually found an old arcade game called Rally X. It came out in 1980 and I have the vaguest memory of playing it at a fun park when I was about 10 or 11. I got a rush of nostalgia that alone was worth the price I paid for the seven discs.
I also enjoyed playing Hydra and Black Tiger again. I actually did the graphics for the Commodore 64 versions of these games way back when. I had the arcade machines for both these games in my bedroom for months while I was working on them. Fun times.

Funnily enough I love R-Type and Bubble Bobble is probably my all time fave arcade fame - I didnt like Rainbow Islands as much for some reason...
Do you like Nemesis by Konami? - I love it!
Have you visited LEMON64? (www.lemon64.com) - Not sure whether you still enjoy emulated C64 games, but there is a good forum and its a good site...

The Commodore 64 was the first real computer I ever owned. Before that all I had was an Atari console and the glorified doorstop that was the ZX81. I do sometimes go through a phase where I boot up an emulator and indulge in a major rush of nostalgia. Many of the games really do still hold up today.

My fave emulators are my SNES emulator (which I've been playing Super Mario 2 - Yoshi's Island on waaaay too much lately) and MAME. Like DD, Bubble Bobble is a personal fave of mine, but I've got a soft spot for Biomechanical Toy, which I'd never heard of until I got a shitload of ROMS.
I'm thinking about buying a Dreamcast off eBay, as House of the Dead 2 is one of my all time arcade faves (of the recent generation anyway - you'll never touch the REAL classics like Robotron, Joust, Defender etc - and it's no coincidence that they were all Williams games!) - you can pick up a Dreamcast for £30-odd quid, with games priced at no more than £10 a piece, and often cheaper. Plus apparently you can get emulators for it that play all the MAME stuff and old Playstation 1 games - it's one thing playing them on a monitor on the PC, but to be able to play them on my TV again - sheer retro heaven!

ZSNES is the best SNES rom to get. You can find it if you go through Google and type in 'ZSNES'.
My Favorite EMU sites:
Cult of Kefka (Go to Google, and type in Cult of Kefka. Any RPG fan come here!)
Cherryroms www.cherryroms.com
DeJap's EMU Translation Site (Go to Google or www.dejap.com but I'm not sure if the site works any more)
Emulator World www.emulatorworld.com
DevilMonkey Where could I get an emulator to play yoshie's island and where could I download youshe's Island I really wanna play it on my computer!
Go to any of those sites (Cult of Kefka should have it, since Cherryroms usually have ISDA protection on SNES games) and you should find Yoshi's Island.

Emulation *sigh* nothing like playing all the old favourites once more.
For NES I use NESter
For SNES I use SNES9xw
For SEGA MegaDrive/Genesis I use WGensEmu
I've got quite a collection of games, I sometimes place my favourites on my site (No, I'm not advertising, you wanna check them out view my profile). I've been hooked to Dragonball Z Hyper Dimension for SNES lately, I love playing as Goku and hitting Cell or Kid Buu with a fat Kamehameha!

A couple of months ago I went through an Emulator craze. It was so much fun playing all the old games again.
I finally got to beat 'Rygar'!
I use FCE Ultra for NES and SNES9xW for SNES
One reallly good rom site is:
Vimms Lair (http://vimm.net)
It has hundreds of games for download, plus all the newest emulators. (for NES and SNES only)
You can also buy the actual game cartridges from the site as well.
That is, if you still somehow have a working NES or SNES system.

If you click on the link from two posts ago...
and then choose 'The Vault' from the menu on the left. You will then get to choose from Nintendo or Super Nintendo...
then you can either browse alphabetically or you can search for a specific title..
let me know if you are still having problems

I recently bought a seven cd collection of all the roms available for mame recently. Over 3000 arcade games including every game ever released for the Neo Geo. I've yet to even scratch the surface.
Seven CDs wouldn't be a complete ROM set, unless it was an older version of MAME. The complete ROM set, with the hard drive images (for newer games like Killer Instinct or Area 51) is around 9 gigs in a heavily compressed RAR file. Might be just minus the hard drive images though, as several gigs of it is just that (Maximum Force alone is 2 gigs uncompressed).
Emulators by system, IMO the best..
Atari 2600: Stella.
NES: FCE Ultra and NNNesterJ (best display options) - If you have an old machine and those run bad for some reason, NESticle is the best for weak machines (Less then like 133 mhz), though it has awful sound and mediocre compatibility.
Sega Master System: Eh, this is a toss up. I use Dega.
Sega Genesis: Another tossup. Genecyst, kgen, and kega are all good. Kega also does Sega CD and 32x I believe, not sure on the others.
SNES: ZSNES is the best. It also is an incredible achievement, coded entirely in ASM. It runs far, far, far better on a weak machine then SNES9x - very playable with frameskipping on a PII @ 200 mhz, and is workable even on weaker machines then that.
PSX: ePSXe. There is no doubt for ANYONE that this is the best. There really isn't any competetition in the same ballpark.
Game Boy Series.. I use Visual Boy Advance. Boycott Advance is supposed to be very good. Visual Boy does all 3 GB series, not sure about Boycott.
Saturn: The hacked Giri is the only option, and it requires like a 1 ghz machine with a decent video card. Can't link to it as it is essentially illegal, from my understanding.
Oh yes, about emulation on the Dreamcast. I've been into the Dreamcast scene for over a year, so I can talk a bit about it..
NesterDC, the NES emu for Dreamcast, is virtually perfect. 100% speed, 100% sound, fantastic compatibility, save states, game genie support.. The works. I liked it enough that I made two NES controllers which work on my DC. Tutorial I wrote on how to do that can be found here (http://nes2dc.tripod.com).
DreamSNES is slow. There's supposed to be a big update. Many games are very playable without sound, but I personally can't stand games without sound. There aren't any other good SNES emus.
DCGNUboy, the Game Boy/GBC emulator, is nearly perfect. Haven't messed with it much myself, but it's supposed to be excellent.
StellaDC is virtually perfect as well.
The various MAME/MAIM releases vary in quality. Most have good speed and compatibility up to like late 80s stuff, and very early neo geo (the NAM game for instance).
Genesis: The only worthwhile option is SegaGEN. It has good compatibility, 100% speed, and kind of bad sound. It was coded by Sega, and ripped by Echelon, a pirate group, to load any ROM. Hard to get working, but pretty nice otherwise. Good luck finding it, as it is illegal.
There's a Colecovision emulator that is supposed to be near perfect. Haven't used it unfortunately.
For the Sega Master System, there is SMEG. Near perfect, but no save support unfortunately. This doesn't matter for most SMS games. It also has near perfect Game Gear support.
PSX: There's the official Bleemcast discs, which must be purchased. One for each game. Metal Gear Solid, Tekken 3 and Gran Turismo 2. Playing on these, the graphics are MUCH MUCH better with higher frame rates, better textures, and less tearing. There is also a hacked bleemcast, which will ATTEMPT to load any game. Success rate varies a lot. Some work nearly perfectly, but most don't work at all. This hacked bleemcast is illegal as well.
Other stuff: There are various ports to the Dreamcast. nxDoom is a Doom/Doom2 port, and is very smooth and very very nice. Wolf3D ports are around. There are 3 Quake 1 ports, and they vary in quality, the original port by Titanium studios is still the best. Very nice actually. There is also a Rise of the Triad port, which is very cool. And a Quake 2 port, which is playable but has no sound. There's a million other ports, but I'm not going to list more. One big final one: Duke3D DC is in the works by a couple people.
At $30, the Dreamcast is still worth picking up. :D
but i wanted to know how to play them. Once I got them installed....I couldn't play them.
You have to find ROM files. That's the hard part. Search Kazaa, or the websites posted here. Direct COnnect (http://www.neo-modus.com) is also a good option.
Me personally, I have complete NES rom sets, all the SNES USA releases (though not Japanese unfortunately), all Coleco vision, all Atari 2600-7800, about 500 Genesis, and around 250 Sega Master System ROMs. You have to know where to look, and its a lot harder then it used to be. Kazaa is a good start for finding packs of a few hundred ROMs at a time, but MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A VIRUS SCANNER CHECK THEM FIRST.

Put a PSOne game in your CD drive.. Those are commonly available at Gamestops, Funcolands, Software Etc, Toys R Us, Best Buy, and almost any other major video game retailer.
Online, Direct Connect, or maybe IRC is your best bet. It can also use CD image files.. Some of them get very large, up to like 700 meg or so.

Yo help me out...i DL JNes for NiNTENDO and then what? how do u open it
Jim H
05-03-2003, 01:01 AM
Don't use JNes. Use NesterDC, it's better in almost every way.
Get NesterDC plain files off of DC Emulation (www.dcemulation.com) and also get JimNESboot. you put the roms in the games directory that will appear after you extract the plain files to a folder.. Then you should be able to run JimNESboot's batch file and either make a nero or CDI image. JimNESboot should be very self explanatory. Alternately, you can just DL a NesterDC nero or CDI image, burn it, then also burn a disc with a bunch of roms. Boot with NesterDC, when it finishes loading swap discs.
