The Matrix was made back in 99, probably filmed mostly in 97 or 98.

This is 4 years later.

And with the progression that film effects have made. I think this movie will be yet another monumental FX breakthrough.

What do you think?

I know that to film some of the action scenes..they brought a plane hight so that they can have some floatation without leaving the atmosphere....I read this awhile back on IMDB I belive....So if that is the case...we are in for a real treat.

im glad Moviefreek brought that up, i forgot about that bit, it seems like old news now, but it is pretty damn big. This is the second movie to use that technique, the first was Apollo 13.

I'll do my best, There is a certain altitude that you can take a plane to where you have some floating ability, the gravity pull isn't as strong.

Well..from what this says the effects will be well worth our wait. :)

From IMDB:

Aussie Effects Houses Burgeoning

Special effects houses in Australia are booming, thanks to: the "can do" attitude of local effects houses; the Oscar win for special effects house Cineffects in 2000 for The Matrix; the depressed state of the Australian dollar; and government tax breaks, Reuters reported Sunday. Zareh Nalbandian, managing director of Animal Logic, which is working with Cineffects on the effects for the two sequels of The Matrix, commented: "The Matrix raised the bar in terms of visual effects for the whole world and I think audiences expect that bar to be higher the second time round, the third time round. They won't be disappointed, I can tell you that."

I think that whatever they do, they will invent some sort of new kind of special effect--who knows, maybe it will be ripped off from some other rarely seen kung-fu movie and just seem original, or maybe they will just keep using bullet time to death.

And I will love it.

I heard they are doing a new type of action sequence that they made and copywritted so now stupid spoof movies cant make fun of. This movie will probably be good.

Isn't there supposed to be some scenes where they're jumping from car to car or something in bullet time?

"Whoa!"

@ Nuclearmisfit:

Copyrighted? Now I really don't know if it's even possible to do that to a special effect technique. This might just open up a whole new can of worms. I have my doubts whether or not it would hold up in court. I did take a media law class once, but they never covered anything like this. As far as I know, there is no precedent for this sort of thing, but I could be wrong.

Putting that aside, I see another special effects Oscar coming their way.

Hey everyone, I've never posted in this forum before, but I like the Matrix so I was snoopin' around.

Anyway, about the special effects being filmed in a plane...what happens is they go up to a very high altitude in a huge plane, then they basically free fall for 20 or so seconds at a time. While the plane is freefalling, there is no gravity in it. Therefore, they can have legitimate zero gravity without going to space. After they freefall, they climb back to the super high altitude, then freefall again.

Basically, they go up, down, up, down, etc filming during the down parts. I think I would probably throw up! :-)

Hope this helps.

Well, I breifly dated a girl who is one of the special effects people for the film. She's worked on some of the major scenes involving Neo, agent Smith, etc. After much drilling for info,(I had to do it) she revealed quite a bit aout the movie that I simply cannot divulge. Suffice it to say, the special effects are going to be revolutionary(no pun intended), They're going to take a quantum leap beyond what several others have only thus far been able to hint at. The fight scenes are super tight!
