got this from IMDB.com

Britney, Madonna and Eminem Unite To Fight Pirates

Britney Spears, Eminem and Madonna are uniting with a host of top chart stars to campaign against illegal downloading of music from the internet. The trio, along with Missy Elliott, Elton John, Sting, Phil Collins, Luciano Pavarotti, Brian Wilson, Shakira, Mary J Blige, Sheryl Crow and other major recording artists and songwriters, will star in TV commercials warning people about the evils of online piracy. Hilary Rosen, chief executive officer of Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA), a trade group for the music industry, says, "We want to hit fans with the message that downloading music illegally is, as Britney Spears explains in one of the spots, the same thing as going into a CD store and stealing the CD. Too many people don't realize that when you download a song you like from a peer-to-peer network or some other unauthorized internet source, what you're doing is stealing music." The campaign came about after an alliance of several recording, publishing, musician trade groups known as Music United For Strong Internet Copyright (MUSIC) Coalition.

this kinda pisses me off, all these artists wont get their heads bitten off the way METALLICA did when they started the fight against illigal downloading. so every1 hated metallica for standing up against the stuff, but when these artists do it, every1 is like "oh well they have a point"! the only reason ppl hated metallica after this is because they werent fans of theirs b4 hand, SO it was easy for them to say "FUCK METALLICA". but now that some of their favorite artists are gettin in on it, its like "ohhh i get it now"!

METALLICA 4 LIFE!!

Maybe if they got indie bands to make these commercials I would give them a little bit of credit. Small indie bands are the only cd's I will buy nowadays. I buy some bands that have recording contracts, but only if if they're really good.

I have an appetite for music that far outstrips my financial ability to feed that appetite. I download a lot of music. I admit this. I also still buy as many cd's as I ever did (a lot). It pisses me off that artists like those mentioned in the lead post in this thread are making noise about downloading mp3s equalling theft. These artists are fucking rich beyond belief and most of them likely get free cd's sent to them courtesy of their beloved record company. The fact that you would actually have to pay me a lot of money to listen to the music of most of the aforementioned "artists" who are shouting the loudest is neither here nor there.

Missy Elliott, Elton John, Sting, Phil Collins, Luciano Pavarotti, Brian Wilson, Shakira, Mary J Blige, Sheryl Crow

In the words of the immortal Bill Hicks these artists are "suckers of Satan's cock".

This is something I hate about American culture. Ultra rich celebrities are sent free clothes, free CDs, free shoes, and the like, because by using them, wearing them, etc., they promote that brand; meanwhile, people who are not so economically advantaged must pay for all these services and luxuries...Am I missing something here?

Ok, I'll admit that I download songs, and burn them to cds
to bring along for the ride in my car, but they stay with me, until
I get the actual cd of the band.

Of course the above bands, are not the type of music
I listen to, with the exception of Sheryl Crow.

Which reminds me, I have alot of cds to pick up.

If the bands who have something to say about pirating mp3's,
why the hell don't they release atleast 4 to 5 the most, of their
new songs, for public downloading. I hate buying music,
from a band I never heard of, and finding out their music
stinks. Although there were rare occasions where I bought the cd, and found their music to be very good.

Such as Massivivid, Splendor, Hog.
3 such examples of buying their albums without
ever even hearing about them.

Anywho
