Really great game, but multiplayer is a bit overrated. It lags like mad.

The first game I got for the N64, and one of the best video games I've played. My brother became fond of the fact that when villains in the ass, they jump up before falling down. Fine graphics and great gameplay.

Great game. I own it on N64 and regularly play multiplayer with some friends (I often win, because I got good training on it). It lasts long enough, it's well done, fun, interesting, the graphisms look good...near-perfect game for sure.

This is my 2nd favorite N64 game. The single player game is great and the levels of difficulty are balanced well. The multiplayer game is fun, but isn't as good as Pefrect Dark's. And it has a great selection of weapons.

This game is one of the best FPS games I have ever played,
next to Perfect Dark, and Halo.
Makes me wish I never gave up my N64,
now I need to go out and buy it again.
Believe it or not, This is the game that got me so into
the James Bond series.

Yeah! Me too! :)
Goldeneye's my all-time fave game. Ever.
(And I did re-buy my n64 to play it a couple of months ago, lovin' all the crazy competition at www.the-elite.net)

The best damn first person shooter engine out there (and I'll stick by that opinion until I die...) that paved the way for the greatness of Perfect Dark.
One of those games I'd much rather play than pretty much any new game on the market today.

Easily in the top 3 of the 64's greatest. The funny thing is, this is a classic and i was old enough to get it when it was first out n e all into it back then. yea.

Classic.
Me and my mates spent hours playing it on multiplayer. Golden Gun baby!
The single player was also top notch...shit I might dust down my N64 right now have a go.

Words cannot express how much I loved this game. I remember having my N64 when we moved, and my cousin came to stay the weekend with us to help us move and all we did was play this game while my parents and some other members of my family helped us move (he was 23-24 at the time, I was 13-14). We'd pause it for an hour or so and help move stuff out of our old house, then go right back to playing, both multiplayer and regular modes. Once we got to our new house (the house im in now), the tv and N64 were the first things we hooked up.
Then, for some odd reason I sold it all. Wish I had it back.
I've often thought of going out and buying an N64 and Goldeneye just so I can play it when I want.
Best. Game. Ever.

Great. Me and my friends would spend hours upon hours playing the game and never get sick of it.

If anyone were to fight me in the Complex, you would get your ass thoroughly owned.
I swear I can traverse that level with my eyes closed.
BEST. MULTIPLAYER. MAP. EVER.
All those Quake freaks/Paul Jacquays fans might disagree, but I'll argue that to the death.

I know a guy who could claim to be able to kick your ass there :D
I, however, would annihilate you all in the Temple ;)

I beg to differ.

Probably. I'm not the greatest in that level.
Pretty good. But not great.

No way. It's a cynical EA cash-in on the name... it could have been called ANYTHING, but they want to use the GE name Rare made. I'm sorry, but however good the game turns out to be, it's a cynical marketing ploy to get everyone who liked "number 1" as it will now unfortunately be known to buy it. :/
As for the original game, 4 of the 9 core members left to form Free Radical Design (http://www.frd.co.uk) (and made Timesplitters 1, 2 and now 3)... another, Martin Hollis (who's signature is on the intro 'Board of Twycross' screen) left to set up Zoonami (http://www.zoonami.com) which is making a top secret game apparently, and finally one guy who was uncredited because he left before he left set up freelance design company Lost World Design (http://www.lostworlddesign.com).
Rare (http://www.rareware.com) made the pseudo sequel, Perfect Dark, but personally (and to many others) it lacked the magic of GoldenEye. Anyway, aside from the Timesplitters games (which have their own flaws) Perfect Dark is the nearest thing we'll ever get to GoldenEye.
The next Perfect Dark game (Perfect Dark Zero) is supposed to be coming out on the Microsoft Xbox, however, rumours currently abound that it may be a launch game for the Xbox 2 (codenamed Xenon).

Yeah Goldeneye is definately one of the greatest if not the greatest fps all time, it's hard to top that multiplayer. Perfect Dark was great too, but it was harder to get into because it just wasnt bond. Great Gameplay though.

Next to Doom, Goldeneye 007 is the most influential FPS ever. Actually, it probably is the most important console FPS. I can't even begin to imagine tallying the hours I spent with this game back in college. At least once or twice a week we would gather 4 guys in my room, and play this game from 7 pm till it was time to stumble back to our own dorm rooms to sleep (roughly 2 am). Goldeneye was magical whether it was multi-player, or single.
Perfect Dark was better... but it would not have existed were it not for the utter brilliance of Goldeneye.
Truly a legendary game.

Yeah, it's definately easy to forget how good it was, but like a great movie - you have to think about the time it was released and how it pioneered so much in its genre - heck, it (along with Turok) practically paved the way for console FPSs that were as good, but in a different way, as their PC genre stable-mates.
Truly revolutionary.

Goldeneye is DEFINETLY the most important console FPS. There is nothing even in the same balllpark of influence.
Most important FPS of all-time, in influence, is probably Wolf 3D, then Doom, then Quake 1. I don't think they're the best, but each of those early id releases really shaped the genre.
Anyway, Goldeneye is one of my all-time favorite games. I played the multiplayer like everyday for years. Singleplayer I play to this very day. I would STILL play it multiplayer if anyone would play it with me. I'm way out of practice, I'd probably suck now.
One thing GE fans might want to pick up is an N64 gameshark. With a GameShark, in multiplayer you can unlock two new levels, and make the non-4 player levels 4-player. Also a ton of weird shit to do in singleplayer. I picked up the GS just for GE, and the GS is like $3 now.
A release I'd like to see would be GE with the exact same engine, graphics running in higher res and at a higher FPS, and a ton more multiplayer options and levels. I'd pay $50 on launch day for that.

My roommate and I did this a couple weeks ago, and it was definitely a good decision. Nowadays, you can get one used for a very reasonable price. (Ours was $40 off of ebay, plus $5 for Goldeneye).
Definitely one of the greatest FPS's ever. We still play this multiplayer pretty constantly.

You paid $40 for an N64? Why? They're $20 at GameStop...

I haven't played the N64 in a while, but GoldenEye was one of the most fun 4 player games out there. I'd say it was tied with mariokart(who didn't love rainbow road). A lot of people give love to perfect dark, but GoldenEye was the original.

I love the civilian skins that you can use in multiplayer mode. I once kicked my cousin's ass with a little old lady, and I was unarmed and he had an assault rifle. Needless to say, he kind of sucked at that game. LOL!!!
