Since most of us won't actually waste our time or money on crap like "See Spot Run", I doubt if we'll ever truly be able to name the WORST movie of a given year...
However, what is the film (or films) that have disappointed you the most over the past year or so? What either looked OK in the previews but really sucked in the theatre, or what did you have such high expectations for that it couldn't possibly live up to your daydreams?
For me, the most disappointing film in a while was "Hannibal". It's an okay genre film, but not nearly as good as the sequel to "Silence of the Lambs" could have been.
Other disappointments of mine:
Traffic
Castaway
Shadow of the Vampire

I was disappointed with SNATCH - Although I enjoyed it, I was hoping for more
I was dissapointed with Meet The Parents, although a pretty good film on the whole.

I was hoping for a lot more from Hannibal. It was alright but it could have been better.

I was also dissapointed with Snatch...loved Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels(Guy Ricthie's previous british crime caper) but it was pretty cool...

I just saw "Enemy at the Gates". As hollow as they come, by crikey. Looks like war, but
this must have taken place on an alternate universal plane. I wanted to love this movie,
I really did, but there was just no juice.
No diggedy on the "gates".

Meet the Parents for sure, all the good scenes were in the trailer.
Just a note...I don't know why everyone hates Hannibal, they should not compare it to SOTL, and if they read the book, it was a pretty good adaptation, except for the Clarisse thing at the end.

I didn't care for it either.

I watched the movie "Someone Like You" with my girlfriend. I was rather dissapointed in that, especially after hearing Ashley Judd say that she had been trying desparately to get the lead role for a long long time! Also, the long "passionate" kissing at the end looked like Hugh Jackman was going to gnaw her face off!
Even more dissapointing, though, was "Bridget Jones's Diary." Although I thought it was alot funnier and more clever, when it was finally over, I realized just how much of it was EXACTLY THE SAME as "Someone Like You."
For example:
(Spoiler for both)
• Girl likes good guy, hates bad guy.
• Good guy breaks girl's heart.
• Bad guy wins over girl's heart.
• Good guy turns out to be the real bad guy.
• Bad guy turns out to be the real good guy.
• Girl think's she's broken new good guy's heart.
• Girl chases new good guy out onto city street where we find out he still likes her.
• Girl and new good guy make out on sidewalk as camera cranes up and away from them for credits.
Basically, having already seen "Someone Like You" destroyed my appreciation for "Bridget Jones's Diary" which probably would have otherwise been great.

I would have to say the most disappointing film released lately is "The Forsaken" I did not expect it to be great but i was hoping it would be good. The director tried to hard to make it something new with the sucky rapid fire editing and all the pointless nudity.

In recent years I was pretty dissapointed with "The Nutty Proffessor 2." I thought the first movie was great, but the sequel was pretty bad.

One must consider that 2001 hasn't had that many great films yet (just Memento, Enemy At The Gate, & Shrek). Several films have been very very disappointing to me and they are:
The Forsaken
Driven
Freddy Got Fingered
Pearl Harbor (i liked it but didnt leave me feeling the way Saving Private Ryan did.)
Swordfish

I really liked Driven, though it felt like there was a lot missing from it.
Worst movie from the past year is Battlefield Earth, hands down.
The worst movie this year, for me, has GOT to be Town And Country. (That movie disappeared first week!)

Shrek did NOTHING for me, Pearl Harbor totally sucked in my book, and The Mummy Returns was one of the worst sequels to a good movie ive seen in quite sometime. So yeah, a lot of disappointments for me lately.

I just saw Swordfish and have to add it to my earlier post.
When will they start making movies around the script rather than around the special effects.

Shrek was good, but it could have been great. So it was pretty disappointing. Pearl harbor was better than I expected, but I expected a hunk of dog crap. There aren't that many movies that look really, really good this summer.

Pearl Harbor is at the top of the list,
Thankfully I was able to avoid the eternal cluster F&*K that was Battlefield Earth.
