Rock: Led Zeppelin, Rush, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, CCR, The Doors, The Velvet Underground, The Who, The Beatles...The list goes on.

Alternative: Hm...I really don't know. Radiohead, perhaps? Are they alternative?

Punk: Again...up in the air...The Velvet Underground are kind of punk...

Punk-Rock: Ewww...

Hard Rock: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE

Rap: OutKast, Public Enemy

EMO: Jimmy Eat World

Grunge: Nirvana

Reggae/Punk-funk-mambo-ska: Sublime (had to create a genre for them, so what?)

Blues: tough one. Any line-up that Sonny Boy Williamson used during the Chess sessions betweeen '61 and 64. (Layfayette Leake, Willie Dixon, Otis Span, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush....there's a few..)
Jazz: ermm... Lonnie Johnson, Artie Lange and Victoria Spivey's combo from the late 20's.
Metal: ... I dunno, Zeppelin?
Folk: Doc Boggs
Neo-folk: Shawn Phillips
Phychedelia: Hendrix EXP.
Grunge: Kinda hard to define as a genre, but I'll go with Belly

Submethod - The Strokes could be called "Garage Rock" like Iggy and the Stooges. I agree with you about the Emo thing. People call anything that sounds remotely sympathetic emo now-a-days. However, I also don't feel Dashboard is emo, and the Spin Doctors are not grunge. Grunge is classified by being stripped down and bare. Spin Doctors are one of the most technical bands from that time period. They are straight up rock, or altera rock, at the most. Like you, though, I'm not that happy about classifying music.

I want to re-do my choices in this thread because my tastes have really progressed since then. These are all pretty much my reference for bands I enjoy. Why'd I have Dream Theater as Industrial is really a question I wish I could answer.
