I have yet to vote on this poll myself as I have just been totally blown away by the excellence of A Beautiful Mind
Also, I have yet to see Gosford Park & In The Bedroom. I will not vote until I see all 5 films.
I've seen Moulin Rouge, but I fucking hate that film!!!

I'm kinda stunned Memento isn't up there. We're not just limiting this discussion to the movies the Academy nominated are we? I think Memento was clearly the best picture of the year.

LOTR should have won. A Beautiful Mind should have won at the Razzies.

I think Amelie was the best movie of 2001, with Moulin Rouge(my choice here) a close second

LOTR: FOTR deserved to wim. I mean, honestly how often does a film like that come out? Maybe once every 10 years. Maybe.

i voted MR becuase it was the most originally ground-breakingly awesome movie of last year. i mean seriously, Beautiful Mind was the biggest straight up oscar movie i've ever seen. no matter what any1 says, this movie tried as hard as it could to be accepted by the oscars. and u know those coward bastards ate it all up.

It's all about the Moulin Rouge...what a great, stunning, original piece of work.

Moulin Rouge. Forget about Lord of the rings being a "big risk" movie MR was 100x more of a risk than LOTR becasue it was a musical that came out of nowhere and was succesful which hadnt been done for years.

I'm gonna vote for Lord Of The Rings in a minute!
No way am I gonna allow Moulin-fucking-Rouge to top this poll!

I think LOTR deserve's it for sure. No other movie comes close for sheer scope and epicness (is that a word?). Moulin Rouge was spasmic, MTV crap. In the Bedroom was outstanding. A Beautiful Mind was typical Oscar fare that was uninspiring and boring as shite. Fucking Acadamy doesn't know shit.

i have to admit i really liked MR alot! and most musicals don`t really appeal to me that much. but i think MR is a beautiful, artistic, classical piece of film.. just wanted to add that to your post!
about LOTR- okay the special effects were good and the setting was nice but i just didn`t care about the story or the characters in this movie! i really didn`t give a rat`s ass what happened to the characters in this movie. i guess it`s because the character development was kind of weak, they never really set up the story and build the characters. it`s just all about the evil ring and that`s basicly the whole movie!
i know it`s based on the book but i think they should have changed it a little.
but the funny thing is, i liked the animated LOTR movies more than this!

why do you hate this film so much? can you give us one logical reason why you hate it, besides just saying it sucks or it`s a piece of crap etc..etc..

Sure I can say why I hate it. It's hyperactive bullshit. Some over glorified 2 hour music video for shitty music. Godawful charecters! Everytime someone opens their mouth in this movie I want to uppercut them. It's just so pointless! This has to be the most aggravating, dig out my eyeballs, nail my tongue to a board piece of shit ever. And what the fucks with the "Whooo!" thing Nicole Kidmans always doing? GOD SHUT THAT GIRL UP! Gahh just thinking of this pile of bunk ass videotape makes me want mail my shit to the director.

Moulin Rouge was clearly the best film of last year in my opinion. Out of the nominees, I'm yet to see Gosford Park though.

Although I think "A Beautiful Mind" was a great movie and "LOTR" is the best directed movie ever (or at least one of them), I think "Moulin Rouge" deserved the Oscar.

It'll cost you $ 4.27 to use that line. Otherwise I sick my law school taking landlord on you.

At first, I disliked the dizzying style as well. However, I began to love it when I began analyzing the depth of the plot. I disagree with that point, because there was a point...you were just so distracted by the visuals (which, incidentally, also had a point) that you didnt notice it.

Why is it hard to accept the fact that people loved something that you disliked? (If thats the case, you shouldn't have opened this thread). Could it be that you just didnt grasp what was going on? Either way, the results are confirming that many see something in that film that you do not.
(For the record, I voted for "In The Bedroom")

What the fuck? Anyone else see anything wrong with this picture?
You chose Moulin Rouge over your favorite film, buddy!!!
(Not that this pole is actually gonna CHANGE the Oscars, so I guess it doesn't matter. It just seems odd, that's all.)

Any guy that votes for Moulin Rouge has no testicles and spends their nights styling their hair and crying themselves to sleep! .........................................There I said it! HAAAAAAAAAAA.

This is just another prime example of R. Scott's gritty war epic- Blade Hawk Down not receiving its due. Heck, it doesn't even get nominated for an Oscar last year when it definitely should have, again, it doesn't even make this lousy poll either. Even though none of the films listed surpass B.H.D. (9/10) imo, I vote for L.O.T.R.: F.O.T.R.

i think their is a difference between favorite and best. obviously knolex thought MR was the "BEST" movie. but that doesn`t keep him from thinking very highly of LOTR!

You are right. BHD was a favorite of mine from last year.. The problem was that so many people did not understand the point of the movie. It was bunked as a movie that had a "lack of character development".
My other favorite from last year was "Ghost World". The thing is that I had no expectations for it showing up in any other top ten list.
Moulin Rouge and In The Bedroom are two other movies that I loved from last year. Both were written very well.
