Yaeh, they were okay. It just seems odd that these were considered the ten best from the eighties. The Academy sucks!!

Amadeus definitely, with probably Gandhi (which uh, you spelled wrong dude) in 2nd place.

Ordinary People, a film that MANY schmoes hate since it won over Raging Bull in 1980, but I don't see a problem with it winning the oscar. I dig the film because I'm able to identify with the main character, Conrad and his problems. Also the fact that Ordinary People is a roller coaster of sad emotions.

Amadeus is definitely the most overrated of the bunch, I really don't see how the film makes it onto the "AFI 100" list, "Paris, Texas" was the best of 84' IMO. "Rain Man" is also pretty overrated, as well as "Driving Miss Daisy," and "Out of Africa" all undeserving of their oscars.

My second favorite choice for would be "Terms of Endearment".

Amadeus is just an amazing film. That is one film the Academy did not screw over. I haven't Paris, Texas so I can't comment on which is better from 84.

I thought the narrative of Amadeus was a bit uneven, which is my main reason for not liking the film very much. Paris, Texas is a film some people are bound to not like, but I found it to be a "spellbinding" (best word I could think of to describe it) experience.

Same here. I went with Amadeus, and my second choice is Platoon, but the Best Picture winners of the '70s and '90s are much better.

My vote goes to Rain Man!

If Raiders Of The Lost Ark had won in 1981, my vote would go there!

I agree with Fergus. Ordinary People is a great film that many don't like because it beat out Raging Bull, another great film. I prefer Ordinary People myself followed by Platoon.

I let a flipped coin make my choice, between Platoon and Gandhi... it landed heads --Platoon it was...

For me, it's Out of Africa.

Platoon and The Last Emperor didn't even deserve to get nominated, let alone win...

Rain man. Driving Miss Daisy and Amadeus were definatley undeserving of their oscars (6/10) and Platoon would be second (both 8/10)

Platoon is a damn good war film and gets my vote. A very good motion picture.

Rain Man & Driving Ms. Daisy are damn good also.

Chariots Of Fire was crap. A boring overlong unintresting movie with blah characters. ALthough the theme is classic.

Same here. I voted PLATOON, but those aren't even close to being the ten best flicks of the 80s if you ask me...
