Forrest Hump, er, Gump... by freaking far.
Moulin Rouge for sure...
Did LotR get nommed this past year? Don't follow closely enough, or care to remember, but if it did... why?
English Patient... bleech!!

Moulin Rouge (it's only redeeming quality was John Leguizamo)
A Beautiful Mind (a great flick, IMO, but just a tad TOO bland to nab a nomination, let alone the Oscar itself). I have to hand it to the writer for the line about "invisibility potion," though.

You people amaze me. Some of your choices are GREAT films and probably even deserve to win even if they didn't.

I'd have to agree with the previous mentions of "Erin Brockovich" and "Chocolat." Both truly horrible movies, and of that year, there were plenty of films superior to each of them.

Shakespeare in Love
Life is Beautiful
The Thin Red Line
Now, come to think of it, Erin Brockovich didn't really deserve a nomination either and what's worse is that cunt Julia Roberts winning!

I agree with these films:
Life is Beautiful - An annoying, sentimental, useless piece of crap that tries to trivialize the Holocaust while totally forgetting that the Benigni character has a wife (she disappeared for most of the movie!)
Erin Brockovich - An overly conventional Julia Roberts feminist scream-fest that did not belong anywhere near a Best Picture list. In fact, it belonged somewhere near the Lifetime Network!
Gosford Park - Too long, too boring, too many characters, too little interest.

CHOCOLAT - Light, fun stuff for sure, but Best Picture nomination material? No way, Lasse.
SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE - See above (just take out the Lasse bit).
THE CIDER HOUSE RULES - Kept inventing situations and excuses for itself to become even more depressing and corny.
