I recall reading somewhere that the ending of Red Dragon was supposed to be Hannibal Lechter sitting in his cell. A guard walks up and says "Doctor Lechter, there's a Miss Starling here to see you".
Anyone else recall reading this? Was the ending ever shot, and if so, is it in the film?

I guess we will not know for sure until the release date(some times so called "test reviewers" are bullshitters). I do not like that ending. It seems goofy and I don't think the events of Will Graham and Clarice Starling were that close. I think it should end with Will reunited with his child.

The final scene of Red Dragon takes place five years after the bulk of the story. It involves Lecter writing Graham a note. Just as he sends it off, Chilton walks up saying there's some young FBI woman wanting to see him.
Chilton states he didn't think Lecter would talk to her. As he starts to walk away, Hannibal asks, "What is her name?" The End.

I actually think this one sounds like a good ending. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif
I am currently reading the RED DRAGON novel. Lechter is in-carcerated the whole time. I just hope the movie's good. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif

The script was very good; Lecter is played as a true villain (we obviously still like him, but the entire time we know he's 'arranging' for Graham to meet an untimely end). Francis Dolarhyde is a far more developed killer than Jame Gumb. And who can beat lines like...
"If you could go back to that night, Will, what would you of done differently?"
"Put two in your head before you ever had a chance to palm that stiletto."
