I'm ecstatic for this movie, I can't wait. It looks incredible. I'm a big fan of musicals (shut up!) and I'm thrilled. The trailer looks great.

Oh, blankpage, I took your advice and saw About a Boy. Wonderful film, 8/10. Thank you.

I have no interest in seeing this film because musicals should be on Broadway, not in the movies. I also dislike Zeta Jones and Zellweger). This film looks too much like Oscar bait that won't appeal to a wide audience.

"A flash of leg, the taste of gin, the smell of corruption, and things that go bump in the night. Anywhere else it would be a crime, but this is Chicago"

I'm not really a fan of musicals, so no I'm not pumped to see this movie. Musicals just aren't my fancy.

Okay... I was about to say a lot of negative things about this movie, and then I watched the trailer again...

WOW! What great cinematography. Also, all the voices sound great. Maybe I didn't notice it because I had watched the trailer on Windows Media Player before today, but damn, what was I thinking? This movie looks great, and possibly better than Moulin Rouge, though maybe not in the "catchy song" department. It does seem though that it could easily either be really good, or really bad (with just good dance numbers and camerawork) but I'm sure HOPING it's good.

I find the three leads Cathrine Zeta-Jones,Renee Zelwegger, and Richard Gere are odd combinations.

Ok a few questions to get the ball rolling.

1.Do you think this film will be as good as Moulin Rouge? And Why?
2.Come Oscar time do you think this film will be in the Best Picture category. And why?
3.Any good Performances?
4.A Hit or Miss at the box office, why.

Okey well continue to post away about this flick.

See, it's a different situation. Where as Moulin Rouge! was a completely new experience using pre-existing pop songs, Chicago is a straight-up Broadway adaptation, showtunes and all. That said, yes, I do expect it to be as good as MR!, because it looks great, it's a strong musical anyway, an experienced musical director is behind the lens, and, my God, look at the cast!

2.Come Oscar time do you think this film will be in the Best Picture category. And why?

Absolutely. Because it's a big movie coming out at Christmas, Oscar loves musicals, and Miramax is behind it.

3.Any good Performances?

Sure. I expect the best to come from Zellweger but it should all be generally strong.

4.A Hit or Miss at the box office, why.

So-so. Moulin Rouge made $53 million, I expect this to be similar, perhaps a little more. Musicals are not generally popular among the mainstream.

1. I was a big fan of Moulin Rouge. i think this will be better. I love romance films, and i love musicals, so Moulin Rouge was a great thing. But this looks so much... sleazier and that really excites me (forgive the pun). Like in Moulin Rouge, all the courtesans and prostitutes all look much too clean to be who they are. i think chicago will be better. i love the songs, though the musical wasnt all that on broadway, but with film you can do all sorts of different things.

2. Too early to say. but im keeping my fingers crossed.

3. Its funny because Renee Zellweger is the last actress I'd picture becoming Roxie Hart. I really hope she pulls it off. I think Catherine Zeta-Jones will be outstanding. I really think she might get a nomination. Richard Gere, eh, never been much of a fan, but hes a good actor, so i suspect he'll do well (though ive never heard his singing voice, i can imagine what it sounds like. Ive never thought renee could sing, but whatthehell, she always surprises me). Lucy Liu has an awesome and juicy and very showy cameo and i cant wait for that. John C. Reilly has a great funny role, he can pull it off, i have faith in him. Queen Latifah is supposed to be great, she has a great part and i heard taye diggs was pretty good too.

4. Well it has one strike against it. Its a musical. but if people watch the trailer, its different from most musicals. its not exactly Oklahamo. Its more modern and the trailer is great. people will be attracted to (well guys mostly) the sleaziness of the cabaret and the jail scenes and all that. Women in sexy suits, glittery costumes, in lingerie. the actors should make it good too. people should want to see it, so id say it will do pretty well at the box office.

It definitely looks like it'll be a good movie. I don't know if it can get BEST PICTURE (I don't think it will), but maybe Catherine Zeta-Jones and/or Renée Zellweger have a shot at an Award (I hope Zeta gets one, I love the chick http://www.joblo.com/ubb/tongue.gif ).
I don't think it'll make huge at the box office. Probably as much as MOULIN ROUGE, but not more...a lot of people consider musicals outdated these days.
