The Howling(1981)

Directed By: Joe Dante

Starring: Dee Wallace as Karen White

After being attacked by a man while on assignment, Reporter Karen White takes a vacation at "The Colony", a place in the countryside that is run by her psychiatrist. Soon after she arrives, strange things start happening. Her husband is attacked by an animal while hiking in the woods and she is hearing a strange howling at night. it's soon revealed that this group she is staying with is a pack of werewolves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really didn't expect to like this movie. I don't like 'monster' movies that much. The setting is perfect for the story and along with the direction it creates a great, creepy ambience that helps the story substancially. The actual creature effects are pretty dated but there is plenty of suspense and the last half of the film really moves. reccomended for a buy, because it can be found for around 10 dollars on dvd.

8/10

The Howling ranks as my favorite werewolf flick. Dee Wallace Stone is infinitely charming, and easy to warm up to. The werewolves themselves are very cool. I think I'm in the minority here, but I'm fond of their perky ears. It gives them a distinct appearance. Plus, I've always favored two-legged werewolves anyway. Eddie Quist is downright vile, and his transformation sequence is astounding. It's a shame that none of the sequels are credible. The only one that is halfway decent is The Howling V. It's moody and cryptic, but the dialogue is hazardous.

I was entertained somewhat while watching this movie. it was slow at parts but otherwise a good movie. however unlike most SANE people i liked the sequels. I agree that part 5 was the best sequel. I think it was the best of em all. still the howling cant touch Silver Bullet. Corey Haim rules. :D
