Oh my God! I saw this last night and wanted everyone to seek out this film if - for whatever reason - it slipped you by. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS!!!
This borrows elements of Ring, The Sixth Sense & the Mothman Prophecies but is much, much better than all of these.
Even now, one day after, I shudder at the mere thought of this evil little film. That doesn't happen to me very often. One scene in particular, almost gave me a f*ing heart attack.
It's in Cantonese / subtitled but it's not extremely heavy on dialogue so it's not a problem.
This proves without a shadow of doubt that Hollywood don't hold a torch to the Japanese for horror. They're not even close!
They'll no doubt already be planning a big budget regurgitation.
Trust ole unc. Malaria on this, and go see this film.

To describe The Eye as an eastern version of The Sixth Sense is to do it a disservice and undermines the achievement of the Pang brothers in creating a powerful and chilling horror movie that succeeds in being touching and terrifying in equal measures. Blind since the age of two, Mann undergoes a cornea transplant operation after which she regains her vision. Unfortunately for her she also gains visions and in a number of chilling and disturbing scenes has close encounters with the recent dead. After investigating, with the assistance of the Psychologist with whom she falls in love, the origin of the corneas with which she has been "gifted" she discovers that the original owner was a clairvoyant whose ability to forsee the deaths of those around her caused her to be shunned by society and treated like a modern day witch. The literally explosive conclusion to the movie sealed the deal for me, making this movie another in a long line of recent foreign language horror movies that far outstrip anything coming out of Hollywood in terms of their ability to scare. One scene in particular that takes place in a lift had every hair on the nape of my neck standing on end. Wonderful moviemaking. Along with Bangkok Dangerous this movie singles out the brothers Pang as a force to be reckoned with. 4/5

I originaly posted the above review in the Current/Upcoming Horror Movies Forum a couple of months back where it was resoundingly ignored.
It's a fantastic movie. One of the best horror movies i've seen in recent years. Totally deserving of any schmoes attention for the uberscary scene in the lift alone.

Oriental? Eeek, haven't heard that word in years. x.x
Anyway, yeah I liked this movie too. It was totally predictable, however. I knew what was gonna happen in the end like 40 minutes into the film. But still a good HK flick nonetheless. It had a good budget compared to most cheaply made HK horror movies.

The Eye has become my current all-time favorite ghost movie. This movie had me shitting my pants big time (Malaria, I'd like to know which scene gave you that heart attack).
Althought the material is nothing groundbreaking, the way the Pang Bros. present their scares is nothing short of GENIUS. I've recommended this flick ALL over the place, urging horror movie lovers to see it. But when you do, make sure you're alone, in the dark with the sound turned up REAL loud.
Wanna know how much I love this film? I got this about 4 days after I saw it...

"Get out of my chair" Hoo hoo. Woah man. Shit myself. My heart started thumping like hell.
And look at you getting a tattoo. Is that for real??!! You crazy dude. Looks bloody cool tho.
This ranks up there with The Haunting and The Others.
Deffo my fave foreign film.

That was definitely a "where's the clean underwear" scene. For sheer drawn out torture though...the scene in the lift has it beat.

My favorite was the "I'm Freeeeezzzzziiiinnnng" scene. ACK!
Malaria, yeah, the tat's for real. THE EYE gave me that feeling of terror I hadn't felt since I was in the single digits (which I have longed for ever since), so I thought it deserved a place on my body.:D

Not sure if it's true but I heard that the Pang brothers will be making a sequel coming out next summer.
I doubt it would be as great as the first one.

I doubt it would be as great as the first one. Somehow I doubt it. I've read a lot of comments from people in Hong Kong who honestly don't know why us westerners are so impressed with this film. Apparently it did not do well over there, and is considered very standard fare. But then again, they've got far worse films that have spawned more than 20 sequels!!! I'd be up for anothe ghost film from the Pang bros., but I think they should try another plot.

Well, after reading all of the posts
reguarding this film, I went and bought
it. I recieved it today, watched it,
and was entirely freaked out and
saddened at the same time.
The movie made me jump more then once,
and some of the time, the scenes had nothing
scary going on. Put it this way, I was just really
tense, and some of the images gave me the
heeby jeebies.
The Pang brothers did a very good job
in pulling off what they did.
Those shadows, were nothing short
of brilliant in my book.

I was saddened by the events that took
place in which what happend to Ling.
How the town treated her cruelly, because
of how much she wanted to help them, and warn
them about the on comming disaster,
and genereally when Ling was around someplace
people would die.
There's no doubt in my mind, I wouldv'e killed
myself if I was in her shoes, like she did.
The Elevator scene, scared the hell out of me,
and I don't think I have any plans to take my elevator
in my building anytime soon, at night time, anyway.
The kid and the report card, both cut my gut,
and broke my heart, when he jumped out
of the window.
The Mothman Prophacy scenario at the end
was terrific, and awesome, but to be honest,
the ending in Mothman, seemed more tense
to me......Maybe because I saw Mothman
before this movie.
However, The Eye, managed to pull the Sixth Sence
part off a hell of a lot better.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
End spoilers, or what not.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I do hope they don't make a sequel to this,
as it's fine enough alone.
The ending brought closure to the story.
a nice score of 10 out of 10,
and a big hearty thanks
to the shmoes who helped
me seek this out, via their
reviews.

This is one of the BEST movies I've seen in a long time, and also one of the few that actually gave me the creeps.
Very well done, Blows the Sixth Sense away (not that it is the same movie) but as ghost stories go.

Did anybody notice this image
during the ride on the train?
The floating head, of a dead person.
I just thought it was cool.
If you haven't noticed it, enjoy.

Ya that train ride part was pretty cool! I can't decide which japanese horror is my favorite. The eye, the ring, or dark water. They all are top notch in terror!!
