Gangs Of New York Thoughts/Countdown

So, what do you fellow schmoes think of this film. Will it be good? Does it have oscar possibilities? Will it do good at the box office?

I personally think this will be one of the best if not the best movie of the year. Both the first and second trailers, and the cast, director, composer, and storyline all make it seem to be simply incredible. I definately think this will be nominated for many oscars, including best pic, best director, and best original score. I'm not positive about the acting but I'd like to see Leo for best actor, Daniel Day Lewis for supporting, and maybe even Cameron Diaz for supporting actress.

Box Office? I think this will do quite nicely. It may even, as my friend said, "Pull a Titanic."

We only have to wait until Christmas to see this wonderful looking film!

It'll be great but it will not be a film for everyone with the graphic violence.

It's a Scorsese film, so I'll definetly be there on opening night. Also, I'm hoping this role will get Leo the respect he deserves as an actor. After Titanic he has been seen as a pretty boy, but the guy can act his ass off and hopefully GONY will prove it. The fact that what was shown to audiences in Cannes got rave reviews helps my wanting to see this flick as well. But it all comes down to Scorsese... http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Some possible problems is that GONY is arriving in a very crowded weekend, and with the R rating (where some others will be PG-13) it could lose some profit. Since this is a Scorsese movie with buzz, I'd expect the Academy to nom him, and possibly give him the award as a "Sorry we fucked u in the ass before" award. I've also heard nothing but good things for Daniel Day Lewis for Best Supporting Actor. X-mas can't come soon enough

Sorry, but I just don't see what is so great about a bunch of irish guys brawling it out in the streets. Sure the acting looks sensational, but the movie looks like crap to me.

The two teasers so far were underwhelming, but they didn't show much. The talent behind this film is OUTSTANDING and it can't possibly be anything less than good. The 20-30 minutes shown at Cannes got lot's of raves, the script has been praised a lot and this is matter of heart to Scorcese.

I smell greatness in here. Could be a groundbreaking film. I will certainly see it.
