This horror movie looks just great Im so excited to see it. Over here is gonna be released on thursday 10/24/2002 so I will be seeing it for sure on friday or saturday!!!!! I think this film is gonna be the best horror movie of the year! Im mad that is rated PG-13 but for u guys that are younger than 17 or 18 in U.S.A which you are not a loud to go to R rated movies are happy am I right? But since Ive said a thousand times that here in Puerto Rico kids can go to R rated movies, so Im just 15 and I can go to R movies all by myself with no adults.
Anyway this movie looks creepy and I hope this film grosse a lot I hope it beats up every movie out there in the theaters. Im also interested on watching the trilogy yeah there are 3 "The Ring" movies and they are in japanese. So is anyone excited for this movie as me?

From what I've heard from people who've seen previews and premieres this is actually good, and not a load of shite (as most remakes are).
Sounds promising, so I'll be going to see that beast.

Sorry call be closed minded but I wish HOLLYWOOD would leave some things alone call me a bitter and twisted Englishman but I'm just waiting for the HOLLYWOOD remake for the falklands conflict about when a small group of G.I'S are traped by neo-argies trying to take over the world and using the falkland islands as a base to produce super soloders.
Also the film about the struggling artist VAN GOUGH played by Kevin Costner a tale about Romance,Gun running Ear mutilation, and one mans inner conflict with lycanthropy.
STOP THESE FUCKING REMAKES.....

Yeah Corpse, you're right. Usually remakes are unnecessary, and unwarranted. However, I think that remaking THE RING made perfect sense.
Most people in the states would've never gotten a chance to see the original, nor would they have probably ever heard of it. I think there is nothing wrong with remaking foreign films and releasing them here, in the US. I also saw nothing wrong with VANILLA SKY, for that same reason.
If nothing else, this may encourage people to seek out the original.
Now, if the new version sucks, well that is another story. But at least from what I've heard, they did the original justice with this remake.
Plus Naomi Watts is scrumptious.

Actually, that would probably be the best movie Kevin Costner's ever made.

Actualy i wanted to hate the remake but i've heard some good things about it.
I'll think check it out. Who knows it could turned out to be ok.
But i don't think its going to be better than the original japonese (which is one of my favorite films)
PS: A few while ago i saw the tape of the remake and i didn't tought it capture the creppiness of the remake. As anyone who saw the original seen the tape of the remake. Please tell me your toughts.
Sleep.

Pfft, wah. People need to get over their tiff with the remake. As long as it's decent and doesn't shame the entire Ring franchise, I am happy.

Call me an european bastard if u want but sorry most of time your remakes are not as good as the original - ones.
However I must admit it is very hard to find the same
atmosphere, the same mood.
The japanese version ( the original ) was a terrific film !!

There's something just too slick and polished about this film that i think will prevent it from genuinely creeping anyone out(except for those people who find almost anything scary, not hardened Horror fans).
It just looks way too clean to illicit any kind of feeling of dread and it won't unsettle like every effective, classic horror movie does.
It will be a safe, comfortable, take no chances, give the mainstream audience what they want,Dreamworks affair.
Is the girl in the video supposed to be scary? If so,i have low expectations for this one.The scene when the kid watches the tape and NW struggles in vain to stop him?It did'nt do anything for me in the original,so i doubt it will have any effect in this one.The scene with the well looks just too well lit,and it looks like so much detail went into that particular sequence that it seems like it lost just about all of the original's tension.
And that guy they chose as her running partner, straight out of Daytime Soap central casting.Young women will like him and guys won't be intimidated by him.And Naomi(the latest overrated Aussie to hit these shores) Watts will go through the usual gamut of cinematic emotions. She'll laugh, she'll cry, she'll look horrified, she'll scream, she'll look concerned, she'll look determined, she'll hint at an attraction to her ex husband, she'll look exhausted, she'll convey a love for her son, she'll look compassionate. She'll do everything you expect her too. There won't be any surprises in this particular performance.
Despite all my complaints,i still feel i will enjoy the film,it's just that it's not going to be anything close to excellent or amazing, merely servicable.
I would recommend renting or catching it at the bargain matinee, cause in the end i always felt the original was nothing more than a glorified version of the X-Files.Now you have this remake,a glamorized version of the glorified version.

...and let me tell you, it's one hell of a movie! Three girls in front of me were actually crying they were so scared. One actually got up and sat on the floor(!) and huddled with her friends! The other two were covering their eyes for the better half of the last 30 minutes of the film! One just gave up and walked out in tears about 15 minutes before the end! Everyone should see The Ring at night because it'd be much more scary...

These are the same girls(i'm assuming they are youngsters)that thought Final Destination was scary.I'm not condescending when i say this, but there is a certain demographic that will think this film is the scariest thing since speedos on overweight old men.
And from your'e positive reaction,it looks as though they hit all the right notes concerning their target audience. Then again, not too compare, but i remember when the debacle Lost Souls came out.I went to the midnite show, depserate for horror, and i was totally let down. But the funny thing is that almost the exact same thing happened.People walked out(don't know if it was from fear),women were screaming, and these two girls were clutching each other throughout the entire film(again, don't know if it was from fear).Teenage girls are so easy too scare because most of them haven't been exposed to classic horror,i'm assuming of course,so everything they see seems fresh and frightening.
If they kept the same ending that they did in the original,i'll bust a gut at the obvious rip off of another classic horror film.Won't mention the name. But like i said, the target audience for the ring will have not seen that film,so it will probably creep them out.

They weren't young at all, I think they were actually older than me...

If that scared them,i doubt very much that they have been exposed to a fair amount of cinematic horror.
I really don't want to sound like i'm totally against this film, because as iv'e said before,i know it will satisfy my horror film cravings,i just don't think it's a solid entry into the horror genre. It's still light years ahead of Yell if you still know what i forgot to do last summer.
From what your'e saying,it sounds as if it should very succesful at the box office,a real crowd pleaser,a shared experience along the lines of The 6th Sense.
I really want to get into this thing,i'm dying(pun intended)to see a real, honest too goodness fright fest,so i hope your'e assesment of it's merits are correct.I get a kick out of watching a horror film in the theater and hearing all the women screaming, clutching, and grabbing at every turn.Even if the movie blows, that will make it worth the 9 or so duckets to get in.

I went to the sneak preview of The Ring last night. It was the BEST horror movie of the past few years. Whoever directed could easily be nominated for an Oscar. It was carzy what he did with this bizarre story. Filled with great aptmosphere and wonderful cinemtography, it was awesome. It was scary too. Definetly worth seeing. I was very worried that it would suck due to the restrictions of the PG-13 ratings, but do not worry if you were about the rating.
The Ring: 9/10

This is seriously the scariest movie I have ever seen and I have seen alot of scary movies. Its really brilliant. Maybe it scared me more since I never saw the original and didnt know what to expect or since I was seeing it at the theatre instead of at home but what ever the reason this movie is brilliant. Grown men were crying out "sweet Jesus" Half the row I was sitting in were covering u[p their eyes. Bravo!

Now i'm going to have to see this.If this many shmoes are going bonkers over it,i'm compelled to shell out the necessary cash to secure entrance to the theater.
If it's not even as close to scary as everyone is saying, there is another rant coming on.Until then i'm going to retire from this thread.I'll be back later.
