Great topic man! I voted Luke Vs Vader from ROTJ for the emotional impact alone. ''If you won't join me, maybe your sister will..''; ''Father! I have to save you'', ''Luke, you already have...''. I've butchered those quotes no doubt, but they remain potent. It was an amazing finale to an amazing trilogy.

I'm going to have to go with Qui-Gon & Obi-Won vs Darth Maul. It is the first dual we see that includes two Jedi's in the peak of their prime time in the galaxy fighting off an expertly trained Sith Lord. To me it's the ultimate Star Wars fanboy scene.

They're all great duels, but I second AP's choice. The duel scene in THE PHANTOM MENACE were the best part of the movie and were very, very, very impressive.

I picked the Phantom Menace Battle but the Empire Strikes Back scene and the latest Yoda vs. Dooku battle were awesome too!

I had to go with Luke vs. Vader in ROTJ. What a kick ass way to cap off a series. The saber dual was just phenomenal. The scenes depicted both a verbal and physical confrontation. In the end, as Jason mentioned, Vader said his most important lines:

"Luke, help me take this mask off..."

"But you'll die."

"Nothing can stop that from happening now. Just once, let me look upon you with my own eyes."

This was the perfect end to a relationship that almost wasn't.

"Now go my son...leave me."

"No. You're coming with me. I'll not leave you like this. I've got to save you."

"You already have. You were right...you were right about me. Tell your sister that you were right."

After a heated feud and an unbelievable revelation about his relationship to Vader, it all came together. The scene itself was powerful, as it meant both extensive battle and heightened emotion. Mark Hamill and James Earl Jones/David Prowse made tremendous showings in this film. The lines were almost perfect. The ending was one that many fans had never expected. The sequences were a perfect fit with the series. The duel set a new precedent for it's time. Words will never justify it.

I voted for Obi-Wan Vs. Darth Vader in A New Hope. I mean you've got Alec Guinness fighting David Prowse. And if that is not cool enough, you have got one of the most emotional moments in the whole original trilogy. It is so sad when Obi disapears. I love that fight.

Goddam... that gave me goosebumps reading that quote.

I think the best technical duel was with Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan & Darth Maul. That was awesome. But the duel with the most impact and 'Holy Shit!.' eyes popping out, grabbing the person sitting next to you effect had to be Yoda and Dooku. I still remember seeing that for the first time. What a moment.

too bad they didn't have the same fight choreagraphers back in A New Hope b/c they could have made the Vador vs. Obi Won one hell of a fight duel. I mean, after watching these past two new films, they deserve a better all out fight scene. But i guess we'll see another more modern younger version of the fight in SW:3

I almost voted for ROTJ Luke vs. Vador, just for emotional impact that fight was awesome, but skill and just plain old sweetness has to go to TPM Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul. That was one of the best choreographed sword fighting/light sabor duels I have ever seen!! (short of the Highlander Series) I truly hope Episode Three has one with Anakin and Obi-Wan involving the same awesome moves combined the emotional impact of ROTJ's fight. That would be spectacular!!!

I'd say that the ultimate fanboy dream battle was Yoda vs. Dooku
But the best duel was (like most of you have said) the Jinn/Kenobi vs. Maul scene in The Phantom Menace. That rocked man. So fast and fluid! Wow!

I voted for luke vs vader in empire strikes back.

First the fight starts of slow. Vader takes it easy with him to see how good he is and all.

After he flies out the windows and then the climax fight begins he gets all serious applying the pressure.

Loved that scene.

I bet Anakin will fight someone in Ep. 3 when he turns to the dark side, but who will he fight? Obi-Wan, most likely, but it could also be Mace, or maybe Yoda will be back in the action. Hopefully though, there will be two--one with any of the people above, and another with Jar-Jar Binks, although one of them is unarmed through the whole fight, and therefore killed within 3 seconds, and I think you know who I'm talking about...

Anakin WILL fight Obi-wan in Episode 3. THe two fight near a lava pit because Anakin believes that Obi-wan is trying to hold him back indefinately. The two battle but Anakin falls into the lava pit. But i think that when Anakin is brought back to life (the emperor will do this), and becomes Vader, he will fight and kill Mace Windu.
After all, Sam Jackson has already confirmed that Mace is gonna go out in a big way. What's bigger than being murdered by the most feared man in the Star Wars universe?

hmmm...anakin right???????? lol...

anyway i went for The Phantom Menace. that fight is one of the saving graces of that film.

anything which involves two people trying to hit each other with lightsabers is pretty much great by me.

My favorite would have to be the Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan Vs. Darth Maul..I was on the edge of my seat when i first watched it. Although i did love the Yoda Vs. Dooku aswell, but the Phantom Menace one rocks.
