Friday te 13th
1980
With the acting talents of:
Betsy Palmer as Mrs. Voorhees
Adrienne King as Alice
Kevin Bacon as Jack
Peter Brouwer as Steve Christy
rating: R
Plot run through:
A boy drowns and two are murdered. Camp Crystal lake is the set for some gruesome happenings. Foward to 1979, when a man name Steve Christy invites some soon to be councelors up to fix it up with him. They do a commendable job until night falls when they smoke weed and have sex- and get murdered by a unrelenting psychopath
My comments:
Genre defining. A treasure. Although it wasn't nearly as tight in some parts as Halloween (1978) or the Texas Chainsaw massacre (1973) this film had it's moments. For those who condemn it, for being "a stupid dead teenager movie with nothing original and a cheesy ending" Friday the 13th is still an alive franchise, so people can't hate it all that much. Jason isn't the killer here, he is absent from the whole film, except for 2 or 3 second little blibs here and there. They are uneventful. The acting is good, Adrienne King's Alice character, I found is shy and stupid. Amy Steel did a much better job n part 2. Betsy Palmer as the psycho came off well, and I liked it. Kevin bacon and Peter Brouwer were also pretty good for what their small characters had to offer. Altogether, Friday the 13th is a satisfactory picture and as the arrow says "it's a slasher film, if you don't dig 'em, don't watch 'em.
tidbit: the only reason palmer got the patrt, was because she could bring her own transportation.
My Rating: 8.5 out of 10
(how was my review, it's my first one, is good?)
Friday the 13th part 2
With the acting talents of:
Amy Steel: Ginny
John Furey: Paul
Kirstin Baker: Terry
Adrienne King: Alice
Plot run through:
After the tragic events of the last film, Alice gets her just desert, before old Jason heads back for crystal lake. Paul Holt, local man has opened a coucelor training facility (WTF) and before long, him and his friends go to twon (literally) leaving a wheelchair bound Mark, Vickie, Sandra, Terry, Scott and Jeff. They all get murdered. The ending with the head of pam voorhees, and that horror jason will keep you in suspense for hours.
My comments:
Not really. It kept me in suspense for a while. Not as tight as the original. Run of the mill mainstream slasher. Not a whole lot, the deaths are minimum, but Terry's a sweet looking chick, an the best part is seeing her ass and tits! Yes sir! JKason's first full appearnece is a knock, out, laying in bed with that girl. EEW! Anyway, mainstream, nothing real special, but Kirsten Baker's ass and tits are amazing. Im so satisfied with them, ill give it a high mark. And for the acting, the acting was good, Furey (Paul) and Steel (Ginny) give amazing performances, can't beat those, but the rest were mediocre. Meh, Kirsten Baker was so hot.... (drifts to dream land)
tidbit: the film had to be re-cut 8 times before being given an R rating.
My rating: 7.5 of 10
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3-D
Dana Kimmell: Chris
Jeffrey Rogers: Andy
Tracy savage: Debbie
Larry Zimmer: Shelly
Rating: R
Plot crunch: how big is this lake? Some teens go to a holiday home on crystal lake. A farm house, Jason returns and boy is he ever mad. More teenagers add to the roster of friday victims! Oh boy!
My comments:
My favorite of the series! My lord, yes. First- the movie easily matches the dark and suspenseful mood of the original two, but with more! Jason's not a mommy's boy wimp in this one, he seems to like being a killer. The kills are more creative in this one. The redder the better! The nudity is non existent and stands out as easily the most fulfilling of the series. The deaths were creative: a girl impaled with a hot poker, girl impaled with a pitchfork, and that poor dude, Andy, got cut in half- I'll never do handstands again! The characters were emotional and stood out, I actually felt for them.
Tidbit for the film: The film was originaly released in 3-D, for the general release and many late night theatre shows at Hollywood.
Rating: 9.5 out of 10
Friday the 13th part 4: the final chapter
Corey Feldman: Tommy
:Sarah
:Trish
:Rob
Rating: R
Plot crunch:
seriously though, how big is this friggen lake? More holiday homes are the set for the grisly events. Corey Feldman stars *shivers*
My comments:
Mood is really all it has going for it. Fits nicely with it's sucessful precessors. The final chapter- yeah right! The beginning sequnce with the scenes from the previous three elimanate all surprises, and thus destroying the mood and feeling the second and third had going for them. Corey feldman stars with a terrible cutesy performance as usual. This film did have the care of the effects like part one, with Tom Savini doing it.
Tidbit of the film: the film's Jason asked to have his name removed from the credits, in old prints of the film, his name stll appears.
My rating: 6 out of 10
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 5: A NEW BEGINNING
:Tommy
: Pam
: Jake
: Roy
Rating: R
Plot Crunch:
A very traumatized Tommy Jarvis ends up in a loony bin. here a series of murders occurs. Is it Tommy? Is it Jason? Is it Big Bird? Who is it?
My comments:
Despite bad publicity that it strays a little to far from the original, I found it a quite enjoyable chapter. Not quite as good as 1, 2 and 3. But better than 4. The effects are good and those hicks from this movie were hilarious. The acting was bad, but Tommy was a full fledged psycho!!! That's really all.
Tidbit of the film: Disregarded by film critics and historians as the worst of the series because of Mr. voorhees' absense, but I know people who believe otherwise.
My rating: 7 out of 10
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 6: JASON LIVES
:Tommy
:Meagan
:Allan Hawes
:Sheriff
Rating: R
Plot crunch:
Escaping the troubles of parts 4 and 5, he goes back to burn Jason's corpse, but lightning strikes the grave, and we are united with the master of macabre, Jason Voorhees. Crystal Lake has it's name changed to camp forest green.
My comments:
In the critics opinion, the best since part 1, in my opinion, a dud. Jason lives is one of those films that doesn't have the feel, and the only thing going for it was the villain. The acting was good, by the people doing Tommy, Meagen and the sherriff. Some of the the councelors got on my nerves though!
Tidbit of the film: N/A
My rating: 5 out of 10
FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE NEW BLOOD
Lar Park Lincoln :Tina Shepard
:Amanda Shepard
Terry Kiser :Dr. Crews
:Nick
Rating: R
Plot crunch:
when telekintetic Tina drowns her father, she gets thrown into a loony bin. Her mother, the ever supportive woman, gets Dr. Crews to take her back to crystal lake. Here she tries to ressurect her father, but instead ressurects Jason.
My comments;
Definatley one of my favorites. A great tribute to when friday the 13th movies were good, Jason, even though he was still a hulking zombie seem to have fun. The acting was good, special regonition to Terry Kiser, I hated his character and he gets it- gets it good. The gore was almost non-existant, and an un-cut version would've been nice, but that's what DVD's are for, right?
tidbit of the film: almost all gore was cut, the first cut was Dr. Crew's tree trimming saw death where Jason rams a saw into his stomch, causing a fountain of entrails and blood to erupt from his stomach.
my rating; 8 out of 10
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 8: JASON TKAES MANHATTAN
:Rennie
:Scott
:Mr. Charles McCollough
:Miss. Coleen Van Deusen
Rating: R
Plot crunch:
Jason sinks the Titanic, or rather he goes aboard a large boat after his revival at Crystal lake. He ends up in the big apple though.
My comments:
Is this a love story? Unlike part 2, which whizzed by, this one drags on for ever! Will the madness end? The series is tired, and needs a rest. Jason hates the scenery and the movie, and seems slow. The characters are week. The gore is non-existant and nudity is as well.
tidbit for the film: in an original script, Jason flew to Manhattan, this was eliminated because "it didn't make sense", my opinion: wasn't it a crystal LAKE emphasis on the word lake!!!
my rating: 3 out of 10
