okay.. the guy has something SERIOUSLY wrong with him.. I tried to watch one of his movies called Not Of This Earth (starring Traci Lords!) and the thing just DID NOT make any sense whatsoever.. what's stranger is that is Used ALOT of footage form Humanoids form the deep, CREEPERS, and a bunch of other movies!! I DONT GET IT!! Is he TRYING to make a ridiculously bad movie, or does it just sort of turn out that way....??
(anyone know any other good roger Corman Presents movies????)

I'd say he was trying to make a ridiculously cheap movie. Sounds like he succeeded as well... :).
Though ''Good'' and ''Roger Corman'' is something of an oxymoron, he definitely has some good cheesy flicks. I'll need to think over his catalogue before I can recommend anything.

It seems to me he uses a lot of "stock" footage in all of his productions

I can't comment on his later works, but I've been a Roger Corman fan ever since "The Undead" scared me when I was a kid. (I later laughed myself silly when it was presented on MST3K.) If you want to learn about all things Corman, I suggest you get a copy of his book called (something like) "How I Made Movies In Hollywood And Never Lost a Dime". It's a great read.
Corman's famous for being a low-budget director. He's not nuts, I think he's just incredibly budget-conscious. Read his book, you'll see what I mean.

Corman is a B-king. Did you guys know that he has had a hand in over 325 movies? And has directed over 50?
Man, his presence is ubiquitous, that's for sure. I hear that Carnosaur is a cheesy delight. I might have to look into that one. Here's a review for it from the IMDB:
''Diane Ladd's fun, nutty performance alone makes this film worth the price of admission. She stars as a scientist who has token chicken eggs and mixed them with dinosaur DNA. She is intent on creating a breed of carnovourous dinosaur that would wipe out the human race. The special effects are plain out awful, however the film is entertaining, fast paced, and has its share of humor and scares. Good paranoid finale too.''

LMAO.. They'd have a field-day...
cool! He did Carnosaur? I've seen that!
I'm sure the guy's had his cheesy little fingers in alot of movies that I've seen, but I've just never really taken any notice in him.
I'm gonna keep an eye out for the book.. it looks like it'd be a lot of fun.

Corman's earlier Edgar Allan Poe adaptions with Vincent Price are the stuff that horror movie dreams are made of!

Corman is royalty when it comes to churning out the cheesiest of cheese. Carnosaur is a guilty pleasure. It's a shameless cash-in on Jurassic Park, and it knows it. As extra b-movie bliss, it features Clint Howard having his head chewed off! There's also an Alien-esque scene that finds the deranged scientist "giving birth" to a dino-baby! Carnosaur 2 is a silly flick that was blatantly "inspired" by Aliens. It's entertaining, but over-the-top gore is absent. It's been a few years since I've seen Carnosaur 3: Primal Species, but I do recall it being horrid. One of the more recent Corman "classics," Raptor, is merely stock footage stolen from all three Carnosaur flicks! I WILL NOT watch it under any circumstances, and I advise all of you to do the same. Humanoids From the Deep is simply Oscar material. Fishmen are compelled to breed with naked women. Ladies and gentlemen, that is an irresistible storyline. All of the b-movie stereotypes are present, and we even get to see some of Rob Bottin's very first effects! I'll be picking up Masque of the Red Death shortly. Apparently, it's grandiose genre filmmaking, so Romero, I'd look into it if I were you.

I'm surprised no one mentioned FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER. That's a great flick! I'm also a fan of HUMANOIDS and DR2000.
Corman's the man. If it weren't for him, who knows where the horror genre would be today. Let's not forget how many actors and directors he gave starts to...(James Cameron, Jonathan Demme, Jack Nicholson, etc, etc.)
Oh yeah, and Rock N Roll Highscool. Not horror, but funny as hell!

bump.
I just saw a great roger corman movie (well he only produced it) the great paul bartel directed it (you people should go watch eating raoul now!) the movie was DEATH RACE 2000. it has to be the most absurd movie ever. it's about a future city and it has this race and the racers (one of them is stallone himself. yes that stallone) have to run over people to get points. it's great. when there not running over people they have nudity. it's a great 70s treat. it might not be a true roger corman picture (as i said before he only produced it) but you all got to see this. It's friggin great, and I got a laugh out of it (yes i laughed at people getting run over, i know im sick)

Great picks Crumb.. Great Picks. Fall of the House of Usher is one of my favorite Horror movies of all time. Those oil paintings give me the willies. Plus Rock and Roll High school.... The man was agenius by getting that made but I think he only produced it. I mean you can't go wrong with the Ramones trashing a high school, you just can't.

Having seen a lot of films under Corman's company, Concorde/New Horizons (now titled New Concorde), it is plain to see a lot of footage of past films are recycled for the sole purpose of saving money. Not only that, but he also recycles the scores as well. Just take a look at The Coroner, a late-90s slasher flick. This one re-uses footage from ALL (that's right, ALL) of the films in the Slumber Party Massacre and Sorority House Massacre series', as well as stripper footage from both of the Stripteaser films, and basically any other past film they produced that included a female dancing naked around a pole. Sounds bad enough, right? Well, the film also uses the score from Humanoids from the Deep throughout over 90% of the film.
I guess, in their defense (although I in no way condone it), you can say these are their films, so they can do whatever the hell they want with them.
Having said that, I noticed you mentioned they used footage from Creepers in Not of This Earth. Is it possible that you have been mistaken, because New Concorde had nothing to do with this film and by no means carries the rights to it.

yeah, i've seen a few stills and it looks pretty neat..
got my paws on a copy of The Terror, starring Jack nicholson and Boris Karloff.. haven't gotten it open yet, but it looks pretty badd.
Driller: I rented Not Of This Earth again and whatever movie they've edited in its a DAMNNED fine ripoff of one of the chase scenes in Creepers.. Cant place it though. Even the Weapon looked similar..!

LOL! The Coroner is godawful, yet somehow, it amused me. I can't really explain it. A decent rental, if nothing else.

Yeah, it's not actually that bad of a movie. I just thought it was disgraceful how all of that extra footage was re-used. I mean, I had seem them do this with previous films in the past, but they really went all out with this one. Seems a bit lazy to me.

If there's one thing that perturbs me about Corman, it's that he 's too concerned with making a profit. I can understand that mindset, but he's too much of a miser when it comes to financing productions. For example, instead of finishing an incomplete film, he'll hire someone to make an entirely different film, and insert footage from that film into the incomplete film. Two cheap flicks for the price of one! And if I'm not mistaken, that's exactly what happened with The Coroner. I agree that it's apathetic on his part. I wish he'd just try a little harder to produce quality cheese.

PRIMAL SPECIES is another one. Eschewed Jurassic Park's state of the art fx work for plastic raptor heads bobbing up and down on sticks. Half way through the film it suddenly turns into slapstick comedy. And it still sucks!!
