Is the 'Friday the 13th' title dead? Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X and Jason vs Freddy don't have it, so I was wondering if they were going to just use 'Jason' from now on.
Someone told me that New Line just bought the character and not the film name, but I didn't know if that was the reason.

From what I've heard it's true that New Line can't use the Friday The 13th title in their movies.

SLasherfan is right. Paramount wont let New Line use the title "Friday the 13th" So we are stuck with different names.

I recall a quote from an interview with Sean Cunningham and he said something like they didn't use FT13 in the title for both JGTH and Jason X not because they legally couldn't, but from a marketing standpoint they didn't want to call them FT13 Part 9 and 10 because they felt it would turn audiences away/off. And regarding Freddy Vs Jason, I don't think it would make much sense for FT13 to be anywhere in the movie title anyway.

You're all correct. They can't use the title, also the thing about sequel number is very accurate as well. The Halloween series doesn't have a number in the title anymore either, for the same reason.

There were rumours that a tagline for Freddy Vs Jason was going to be "It's A Nightmare On Friday The 13th", which would've been sweet, but I don't know if that'd be allowed anymore.
Plus it was on the imdb, and we all know how reliable they can be.

Imdb Is unreliable well i never would have guessed *cough bloodymurder2 cough*. Not to wander off topic it pisses me off that the only company that can use the title Friday the 13th is a company that doesn't give a damn about the fans.

So I have to change my favorite movie tag to "All The Jason Movies"? That kind of sucks. I like(d) the Friday The 13th title. Oh well I'm keeping it at that, everyone here knows I mean 1-10 anyways right?

Penut,
Of course we know, it is all those "normal" people you have to worry about. ;)
Yeah, it blows diseased manatees that New Line isn't allowed to use the "FRIDAY THE 13th" name. Fuck Paramount.

Ok, I went and got the direct quote from the interview I was talking about. I believe what Cunningham is saying, so I don't feel its accurate for people to keep saying its legal issues between New Line and Paramount as to why Friday The 13th is no longer used.
"So the question finally came, would there be any more FRIDAY THE 13TH movies? In an interview with CINESCAPE a few months back, JASON X director James Isaacs said contractual issues with Paramount Pictures have shelved New Line from using the FRIDAY THE 13TH name for any future JASON movies."
“No. Jim doesn't know what the f*** he's talking about, and I want you to quote me on that,” Cunningham said. “No, it has nothing to do with that. There are lots of contractual issues, but FRIDAY THE 13th is the series. But it was a marketing issue, when you get into part 10 and everything nobody wants to see it, so you have to think of some fresh or clever way of doing it.”

Hmmm. Interesting.
Someone needs to tell Cunningham that pretty much anyone and everyone that would go see a Jason movie knows that it is a sequel to Friday the 13th.
It isn't like we didn't see Jason X as the tenth in the series. After all, isn't X the roman numeral for ten?
Cunningham sure doesn't seem to know, or respect his audience.
I mean, I, would be more likely to go see a new sequel in this series if they went back to their roots and labeled it Friday the 13th prt. 11 - *fill-in the blank with some corny phrase*.
But that is just me.

Ah, from a marketing standpoint. I see. So, if Jason X just happened to be the third film in a series instead of the tenth, mainstream moviegoers would flock to see a slasher set in outer space? That seems logical. Fuck Sean Cunningham. He's a fucking hack. All that he's contributed to the genre as a director is unoriginal, barebones fluff, and he has the audacity to bash Jim Isaac, someone who dared to do something different with the F13 series?

really, all the films from part 3 on have had corny mini titles, example:
Friday the 13th part 3-D
Friday the 13th: the final chapter
Friday the 13th: A new beginning
Friday the 13th: Jason lives
Friday the 13th: the new blood
friday the 13th: jason takes manhattan,
