My God guys, check this artice out.... :o

The final numbers are in from the movement in Australia to get Jedi-ism recognized in that south Pacific country as an official religion. The religion is based on the motive mysticism of the Star Wars saga, and began earlier this year when an email campaign tried to get Jedi-lovers to put the faith on the Australian census as their personal religion.

It seems over 70,000 residents decided to follow Yoda’s path and checked the Jedi box.

The Star Wars movies are great, but this is just extreme. People scare me sometimes. Are we going to have Jedi churches? Next thing you know bumbper stickers will say "WWMWD" aka What Would Mace Windu do. This is just crazy. I love Harry Potter and all, but I don't run into platforms at King's Cross station. People love LOTR and all, but they do not get hair transplanted on their feet and cut their stomachs out to make them shorter. This story defines people who need to get a life.

Whaddya want, some people are just craaazy. :p I read about this in a newspaper not a long time ago. Apparently 70 000 people "checked the Jedi box", but only a little portion of that number meant it for real. Most people who did just thought it'd be fun to do so. :)

yea, I bet a majority said yes because they were fans and they thought it would be funny, heck, i don't doubt that a few people clicked yes because they thought the whole poll was one big joke...

Still, it's hard to imagine that there are people who are dead serious in choosing yes. Just one person who thinks that scares me....

They're not "people"...they're Aussies. :p

To all my Australian friends out there (and in here, too): just kiddin', folks. :)

Hey L. Ron Hubbard's got his own religion, so why not George Lucas?

But seriously, this is pretty fucked up. But I guess it would be as good as any religion as long as it kept people out of trouble. I just hope we don't see a wave of fundamentalist Jedi-istics. Scary, scary thoughts.

Well I would have checked the box! It would be funny to hear on the news one day as Jedi-ism the number three leading religion. It's kind of like a joke!

There's a whole shitload of people who speak Klingon. No different. Or how about people who worshipped and followed David Koresh. Or how about Marshall Applewhite and the Heaven's Gate cult. Anybody who follows anything that fervently, even catholicism or Judaism or whatever, are desperately in need of something. Probably therapy.

all i have to say if SAD, VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY SAD.

come on, if you wanna join a religion make sure it is one that some dude didn't think up and make a movie about (i know that most religions are ones that people think of). matter of fact, don't join any religion.

Sorry for the anti-religion stuff im a agnostic

If these Jedi followers can figure out how to use some mind tricks, them maybe i'll join them. I'll start by convincing my boss to give me a raise. What holidays do you think they observe?
:D

70,000 people who checked the box: 7,000,000 zits.

I'd lose any respect for anyone who follows a religion based on a movie. But also keep in mind a lot of people speak Klingon and Elvish (though they don't have their numbers)

Yeah, that's true, what the hell kind of benefits would you get in this religion?

1. Pro. Can carry around lightsaber.

2. Con. Can't get married, can't have a gf/bf. Can Jedi's get laid?

3. Pro. Don't have to go to Church, just watch a Star Wars Movie on the specified day of giving thanks.

4. Con. Who the fuck is God? George Lucas? or Anakin?

5. Pro. Since the men are fat ugly nerds, I would be considered a gorgeous God. (hehehe)

6. Con. Since the women are fat ugly nerds, I would be considered a gorgeous God. ( uh oh)

7. SUPER ASS BIG PRO!!! Can stay home from work, sensing a disturbance in the force!! Woo Hoo!! Sign me up!

8. SUPER ASS BIG CON!! Gotta shave my head and have that annoying little tail like I did when I was 6 for my formative Padewan years. if I have that, no chicks will want to fuck me.

Yo! Burn that application!

Well, i think this is how te whole NSYNC thing worked...

They were in a different studio close to the where they filmed Star Wars. Lucas asked if they would do a cameo (for his children) during their time with the music video shoot. Rick posted it up on the net and when just about everyone and their grandmother complained about it, Lucas dropped the idea...

That whole inccident was not just a rumor, it was on the news all over the wolrd and Lucas has qouted alot on the matter.

Boy I sure hope Dumb-Fokker doesn't read about this Star Wars religion thing. ;) He's always saying the Star Wars fans are a little too crazy, and this would probably prove him right.

While I admire and respect the classic Star Wars trilogy, it's really sad that anyone would devote themselves to any film so rabidly. It...defies comprehension. Not even Stanley Kubrick had the dubious honor of having a psudeo-religion in his name.

I remember reading about the "Heaven's Gate" cult when it happened. How could these people have been so deluded to believe that UFO's were hiding behind that comet?

I wonder how far we can take this thing? What if a bunch of us stated on the census forms that we are members of the "Church of the Holy Clitoris?" Would it get official recognition if enough people signed up?:o

the world is changing. Some of its good, some of its bad, some of it is scary and strange.

Just to bring a little seriousness to this thread...

I think that it is a bad idea for people to check the Jedi box on the census form. The reason being that often government funds are distributed to different religous groups based upon information from the census. Because of this 'joke' some groups that actually help people may get stiffed out of some money that they need to continue their good work. Maybe if some of these people knew that beforehand they would have reconsidered.

That being said, if the Jedi Church can figure out how to teach the congregation to use the Force, then they can count me in! The poor and hungry will just have to help themselves.

I think I should clear up some things for you guys, seeing Im from Australia. We have a thing called a census form which we have to fill it every few years, its basically a survey to see how much money you earn what religion you are etc. We were also told that if a religion is stated 10000 times and its not a relgion that is on the census form it would be classed as a religion. So alot of people were going around telling people to put Jedi down as a religion cause of this, merely as a joke, I know quite a few people who did this. Alot of people in Australia dont take this census fom seriously.

My personal opinion is that all forms of religion are pretty ridiculous. Now before you all start throwing stuff at me...let me defend myself! I am NOT saying that everyone who follows a religion is ridiculous...NOT AT ALL! What I am saying is, the concept of religion is ridiculous. I don't agree with it. Anything that can put that much of a dampener on all things in life that are fun has to be bad! But in all seriousness this whole Jedi religion business is just another crazy religion the world has come up with...And if people wanna actually follow it...then Power to them!
