Ok, it's obvious that Hollywood is beginning to running so low on ideas that a Girls Gone Wild movie has been greenlight. With all the untapped literary resources out there it's hard to see why crap like that would even be given a second thought.

So, what are some books out there that you think would work well on the big screen??

Some ideas of mine:

Riptide

By Lincoln Child & Douglas Preston: A great action/adventure book that just screams Hollywood blockbuster. It's basically a fictional account of the true story of Oak Island in Nova Scotia.

For anyone unfamiliar with that here's the scoop. There's a pit on Oak Island in Nova Scotia that many believe houses a great deal of treasure. Many people have spent the last 200 years trying to dig it up. Six people have died and they've only dug up 150 feet. The reason is that the pit was designed with layers of rock over layers of wood over layers of steel, so on and so forth. Also, the pit floods whenever people dig over 150 feet. Riptide takes this story, adds some characters, plot twists and what-not. I really think it would make a great movie.

Ice Limit

This is another great action/adventure story from Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston novel about the group of people who are assembled by a billionaire to go in a huge state-of-the-art tanker to retreive the biggest meteorite ever to land on Earth.

Wolf's Hour

Robert R. McCammon's tale of a werewolf spy in France during World War II. I know it sounds cheesy but it was a great book.

I also think a few of Clive Cussler's books could make good movies but only if the budget were big enough.

Can anyone else think of any?

The Brotherhood of the Rose-David Morrell/ Action packed, suspenseful tale of two surrogate brothers taught by a foster father to be covert agents. Later betrayed by the father figure. Excellent read.

Punisher: Welcome Back Frank by Garth Ennis, action-acked and violent, just the movie to get Holywood on it's feet :D. The TPB it self reads like an action movie.

Sorry, thought you meant comic book.

Catcher in the Rye, but Salinger would never let it happen.

And thank god for that, although, I have to admit, I wouldn't mind seeing it.

Wither by J.G. Passarella. In fact, the back of the book even says, "Soon to be a Major Motion Picture," but...that book came out in late 1999/early 2000. It's a really good creepy story about witches and a small-town curse and such.

Also, Violet and Claire by Francesca Lia Block. I imagine there would be a high degree of irony in turning it into a movie, but it would make a really wonderful mature "girl movie" if done correctly.

On The Road by Jack Kerouac

It would be great to Sal's and Dean's adventures on film. This is one of my favorite novels of all time and would love to see it done right on film.

not a novel but a short story:

"The colour out of space" by H.P. Lovecraft.

A meteor lands in a small farmer's yard, suddenly everything begins to turn gray and wither, the ground poisoned. Upon investigation, a group of local men find the farmer lying on the floor dying a gruesome death(Described in nightmarish detail), and the trees, gray and leafless, swaying and dancing in unison, reaching for the glow of the moon.

It gets worse and much more frightening.

"The Diary of Jack the Ripper" by Shirley Harrison and Michael Barret

A chilling novel documenting the diary that The Ripper wrote as he slay each victim. It begins talking about his life and marriage to his unfaithful wife, and his eventual fall into madness. It also describes in detail his thoughts and feelings after each murder "When I have finished my fiendish deeds, the devil himself will praise me. But he will have a long wait before I shake hands with him. I have works to do. A great deal of work. Ha Ha.
Kidney for supper." I can picture a film from his twisted point of view as he begins his story writing:"I once was a normal man."
An excellent idea for a dramatic horror film.

Hollywood:Pay or Play-By John Boorstin. A funny satire of Hollywood, about a young writer who writes a brilliant script and goes through all of the shit of making a film. It would make a great and realistic portail look of Hollywood. And if I could get the rights,I would write it right away.

Murder on Elgins Corner-By Logan G. Groves-A short story written by moi.A classic murder mystery,in my opnion.Kind of going back to the Sherlock Holmes days. I got a great mark on it too!

I would like to see anybook by chuck pahlaniuk, but most of all Id like to see Survivor. Just the way the book starts is great. A guy talking to the black box of a plane minutes before it crashes in the Australian outback..cool. And this guys transformation from Joe nobody to mega religious leader super star...and with a female character called Fertility Holis, you cant go wrong. Sad news is I heard this was gonna get made but due to the events of Sept 11 no one would go near a story about a plane that was gonna crash...sucks balls cause hey! they made Collateral Damage! Come on...
