I had an issue back in 1986 or '85 (it was a two parter)

In it, Superman dies.

The comic is set in the future (not a graphic novel, part of the series) and it is someone interviewing Clark Kent.

He tells the story of Superman's final battle.

In it Superman fights ALL of his biggest foes, and it ends with that Imp (Mr. Mytzyplyx - wrong spelling) turning into a giant monster.

I can't remember how excactly he dies, but it had something to do with the imp guy.

I think it was like Action Comics, and it seems like the number was around 425, or something.

If anyone doesn't know about this one - can you send me to a list of all printed superman and action comics? I can figure it out from there.

Er...as a huge Superman fan, I can assure you that is not how Supes dies. He dies to the hands of a Doomsday monster wrecking havock across America, in the famous DEATH OF SUPERMAN series...you sure of what you're saying?

I could be wrong, so I'll do some research, who knows...

After years of comic abstinence, I did have to buy the newstand edition of the death of Superman. How disappointed I was that after everything he had been through, he dies in a fist fight with a monster.

Do you remember Nemesis (the creature who drew on Superman's own strength) or the multi-issue episode where he exiles himself to space because he is about to die of a Kryptonian virus? And then, a fist fight with a monster?

A 2 parter in Superman #423 and Action Comics, 1986, #583: "Whatever Happened To The Man Of Tomorrow"

"Mxyxptlk!" he screamed, and the 5th Dimensional imp appeared, changed somehow, darker. "What do you do when you're immortal," he asks, "other than fill time." Part of the time he was good, part of the time funny now he is evil. "Did you honestly believe that a 5th Dimensional sorcerer would resemble a funny little man in a derby hat? This is how I really look," he screams and again changes into a distorted, grotesque apparition with height, length, breadth and a couple of other things.

Suddenly, Brainiac V's meaning dawned on Superman. The statue he was given... facing his greatest foe... he was holding a Phantom Zone projector. Racing through the fortress, Superman sped to the chamber where the projector was hidden, with Mxyxptlk right behind him. "Time to die!" screamed Mxyxptlk. "That's right, Mxyxptlk," says Superman. "Time to die."

It takes a moment for Mxyxptlk to recognize what Superman had in his hands, and in that moment, he realized that there is no escape for him, save one. As the Phantom Zone projector beam hits Mxyxptlk, he yelled out his name backwards. A numbing scream rends the air. As he attempted to return to the 5th Dimension, he was also sent to the Phantom Zone; torn in half between dimension.

And now it is over. But was it. In the fortress Superman appeared distraught. "I broke my oath," he sighed. "I killed him. Nobody has the right to kill. Not Mxyxptlk... not you... not Superman. Especially not Superman." "Superman turned and walked down a hallway," continues Lois to Tim Crane. "I ran after him, calling his name. He didn't reply. Opening a chamber labeled "Gold Kryptonite" he entered and walked into the gold light. He turned and looked over his shoulder. He smiled at me... I never saw Superman again."

Especially not that way. He killed a duder, so he kills himself? That's suicide. Superman -- does -- NOT -- kill -- himself. It just doesn't fit.

I'm just glad that I found that these issues really do exist....

I was starting to wonder if I had turned memories of abuse into memories of a Superman comic where he dies. Heh

You guys want to hear the worst, most screwed up thing?

I used to have that comic, but an adult stole it from me. Heh.

PS - The one thing that is blowing me away are all of the details I remembered from 16 years ago -- I was onluy 2 issues off with the number, and was right about the imp having something to do with his death.

However the interview was with Lois and not Clark.

I hear you bowiee, that synopsis really is emotional.
