I'm wondering, how is GTA3? And why does everybody love this game so much? I'm thinking about buying it, but I don't know if it'll be worth my $50 bucks. I mean, I've never played it. I guess I could rent it instead.

Now, let's say if I bought GTA3 one of these days, would it matter much that I haven't played the first two?

Thats what renting is for, its a great game cause it allows freedom, and various other things to do...I'm sure someone will explain it better, cause I've been doing it to others for the last year, but I say just rent the game and find out, if you like it...dont buy it, hold off cause the next GTA game is coming out in 2 weeks. Go read some reviews of the game also....

To answer your question: YES, it is that good. It's probably the best video game I have ever played to date. The freedom to do what ever you want in the game is better than any other game I have ever played. You can virtually do anything you want. Beat up a homeless guy, shoot a pimp, even pick up a hooker for a little R & R and then kill her and take your money back afterwards. There really is no limit to this game. Most of my time with the game is not even spent doing the missions, I just drive around seeing how long I can outlast the cops.

Now, this game probably won't appeal to all tastes. It's very violent. If your in to that I would definately give the game a try. However, if you are going to buy it I would wait a little bit longer. As the previous poster said Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is coming out in less than two weeks and it's going to be about three times as big as GTA3. Basically it has bigger levels, more missions, more guns, more cars, more or everything.

On a side note: I have never played the first two GTA games and I had no trouble with this one. It's very easy to control.

Just make sure that if you do pick it up you don't have anything else to do because if you like the game you won't want to stop playing. At least that's my opinion of it.

no,its not as good as many say,in fact its very very very overrated,i think the game sucks and is extremely boring...i didn't even enjoy it the first times i played or saw it,let alone the 19313038 times people play and talk about it.

I'm just curious. What specifically did you not like about it? I've not heard many people talk about not liking it.

Yes, it is that good. Though, with Vice City coming out in a few days, it's kind of a moot point.

Rogue Spear said it well. It's invigorating and intriguing; I sometimes just cruise the city listening to the radio; or walk around the streets, watching muggers, prostitutes, and carjackers at work; or dream up crazy stunts; It's just a really cool game. The first of it's kind (Shenmue doesn't count).

Second that. Every damn word of it. :)

But Jason Vorhees is right -- VICE CITY is coming out soon, and it looks even better, so maybe you wanna by that one.

It's a fun game, but I have some beef with the graphics. They aren't as good as people say, and they look more like a 64 bit than a 128 bit game.

I highly doubt that many of the people who love GTA3, have even played or touched the first two games..

As I have tried the second game in the series, the third game is massively different because no more overhead ( which the second one was mostly )

But, this game is extremely overrated.. No, it is not the best game ever.. Not even close.. Yes, it is extremely fun and enjoyable to play.. Yes, I do recommend it to you.. But just beware that this game has many pointless parts to it.. Especially collecting the 100 packages.. But, to each their own...

My friend brought this game over. It was really cool, I would rent it first. It is really a hate it or love it kind of game.

gta3 is that good, but it is pointless to buy it, when vice city is going to be much much better, and will cost the same. so, wait for vice city. it's gonna be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, it isn't that good. It's better. This game is, seriously, the best game I have ever played. And I have played alot of games.

Same thing as Dumb Fokker said. I was a fan of the GTA series before GTA3 came out, so I had high expections before it. It completely exceeded my expectations. I have been playing videogames all my life, and I kid you not when I say this is hands down the best videogame I have ever played.

It's funny, in 2001 people were expecting Halo, or Metal Gear Solid 2 to be the best games of the year. While they were both fantastic games, nobody (including me) expected GTA3 to be as good as it was.

And from what I hear, Vice City is even better...

GTA3 is just...the god of video orianted joy.
And, you can't compare it AT ALL with the previous games except from the fact that you're in a place called Liberty City.
Imagine a life simulator where you can get a fuck from a whore, shoot the tits off an old woman, and car-jack a hot rod, and then as the police approach, blow their heads off (literally with the aid of a cheat ;) and then nick their car. And of course, without the whole jail thing. This game kicks ass, and like I've said in previous posts, I will play this for a whole "working" day. Ahhhhhh, life is sweet when you have a Rockstar product around. Maybe I should go play Max Payne now...
