For those of y'all who know me well enough, y'all will know that i get very upset over the fact that there are ALOT of late 70's/80's slasher flicks i haven't seen, simply because i live in the shite that is the UK and cannot get hold of 'classics' such as CURTAINS, FINAL EXAM, THE DORM THAT DRIPPED BLOOD, MY BLOODY VALENTINE, SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE etc etc etc I'm gonna cry in a minute. Anyway, a friend of mine visited a new/second hand video store last week about 30 miles from where i live. He told me they had loads of horror movies there. So i gave him a list (it was very long) of all these slasher movies that i SO desperately want/need! And even though he only got one, it was HELL NIGHT, and for £5 too! I consider that a fucking bargain!
Right, i was just wondering what y'all thought of this movie. I know a few of y'all like it. I thought it was pretty damn cool! Not a bad effort at all! The monster dudes were pretty freaky. It was cool that you didn't see much of them till near the end (makes it more scary). A couple of cool deaths, and as far as likeable characters in slasher movies go, I thought Seth was pretty cool. What a hero!!!
The house was creepy as fuck! I loved the whole feeling the director created that there was nobody else around. Desolate shit! Yeah! Oh, and the ending ROCKED! It was also good to see PETER BARTON in a meaty role away from his 'minor' role as a victim in FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 4!!!! Overall, i am very pleased that i got hold of this movie, and can't wait to watch it with my friends over a few beers!
Am i right??!!!

Yeah you're right. HELL NIGHT is one of the better 80's horror flicks, due to a strong cast as well as the mutant/monster theme. Pretty cool ending too.

HELL NIGHT (1981) Directed by Tom DeSimone. Linda Blair stars in her best post-”Exorcist” role as an innocent sorority pledge who spends the night in a “haunted” mansion as part of an initiation ritual at her upper-crust college. A group of frat brats attempt to play a series of pranks on the handful of pledges, which leads to murder and mayhem when secrets about the mansion's haunted history are revealed in a most horrifying manner. Peter Barton co-stars as Blair's love interest, Vincent Van Patten portrays the resident bad boy, and Kevin Brophy, Jenny Neumann and Suki Goodwin round out the good-looking cast of collegians. This slasher-haunted house hybrid is one of the best of the early 80's, and Blair is lovely and thoroughly convincing as raspy-voiced heroine Marty. Loosely based on a modern-day urban legend “The Initiation”. My grade: a solid B.

Hey thanks Morgan for bringing this movie up. I love this movie! It firmly goes into my top ten of horror. Those garth brothers were some of the creepiest monsters in a slasher flick. I loved the set up of this movie how they explained the history behind the house. The whole mansion setting rocked and the garden maze was reminiscant of a miniature version of the Shining. What a creepy movie.
Hey Morgan, you might want to save your money on The Dorm That Dripped Blood cause it is a big let down. I too was intrigued by this movie cause it had the hot Daphne Zuniga in it but she is only in it for 15 minutes and then you are stuck with probably the ugliest heroine I have ever seen in a movie. The other choices are excellent especially My Bloody Valentine. That too ranks in my top 10.

Yeah dude. I'm coming to the U.S. in september so maybe i can find all these wicked slashers then!! Good calls on the set up of HELL NIGHT too!! I loved it when that guy was telling the story about the house whilst they were all walking up to it. And then it shows that scary shot of the house!!!!!

If anybody has got a good shot of that mansion on a image, can you lend it to me?

Yeah i would be stocking up in september morgan. Good luck in your quest. Another movie that i liked was the Final Terror and it is worth finding for real cheap. Also check out The Prowler and Intruder which i like. Not sure if u have seen these but if not u may want to check them out.
Hey i have asked about this on a previous post but since this is concerning Hell Night i would ask. I have heard from other boards that they are doing a remake of this movie. Is there any truth to it and if so where can i find more info on it. The info i read is that Linda Blair would come back to star in this maybe as a cameo. Your reply is greatly appreciated.

I picked up Hell Night along with Tourist Trap in my local pawn shop in great condition, both were four dollars each. Hell Night was Anchor Bay's recent re-release. It is a above average mansion story with local frat members trying to scare new pledges. Good special effects including the ghost and good kills all make for a keeper. The explanation of the mythology of the house works well. It is definitely underrated.

After ther very crappy and shoddy looking beginning with the party, the movie picked up immensely and turned into a a very enjoyable movie. The casting was pretty good. I own the Anchor Bay VHS (widescreen). Recommended!

Hey Morgan!!
Dude, I totally understand the way that you feel. I cant be without my slashers either. All of those films that you mentioned were awesome, and i hope that you get them. eBay is a good place to get horror, but you'd probably get killed on the shipping charges, but check it out anyways. Hell Night rocked to high hell for all of the reasons that you and everyone else mentioned. But on a side note, I am blown away that you appreciate a masterpiece of an 80's flick like "Curtains", Morgan. That is my all-time favorite slasher film, and my favorite horror movie. That film just blow me away, and anyone else that thought so is awesome in my book too. Here are a few that I own that are definitely worth for some reason or another:
Terror Train
The Prowler
The Initiation (also w/Daphne Zuniga)
House on Sorority Row
Just Before Dawn
The Burning
Night School
To All A Goodnight
Maniac
Alice Sweet Alice
Black Christmas
Stage Fright
Terror in the Opera
Slaughter High
Thats just a few, anyone else got thoughts on those listed?
-Killer Klown
By the way,
I enjoyed this movie, too. I found it by accident at a local video store and after watching it, I went out and bought my own copy.

Hell Night gets all these good ratings/praise/reviews from horror fans...and I must say they overrate it. It lacked originality, creativity, was dull throughout, and didn't come through on the nudity/gore front much at all. I thought this would be a keeper after all I had heard but after seeing it I will not be holding on to it. And why do some people think Blair's character worked? She's supposed to be some tough, resourceful mechanic but she's totally helpless.

Hell Night is another one of those rare horror films, along with Black Christmas, that most fans seem to like (or at least they don't hate it vehemently).

I own a copy of Hell Night and love it dearly. Andrew Garth is one of the greatest killers I've ever had the pleasure of viewing. This is the type of movie that should have spawned a plethora of sequels. Unfortunately it didnt. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Hell night is a superbly underrated slasher, and the fact that it manages to mix 2 different genres together so evenly still astounds me, due to the fact that most movies these days try and fall flat on there face. This is the real deal. And I'm fixing to watch it..... again.
8/10.
And this is my 700th post. Deciede to dedicate it to something supercool.

Based on the recommendations of the folks in this thread, I went and bought this on the weekend. Did not get to finish it yet, but so far it looks pretty good. One thing I found wierd was that there did not seem to be many folks around to get the body count very high. Of course, there may be more brought in later as disposible characters.
overall, I really like the backstory to the mansion, and Linda blair looks pretty good in the beginning.
Thanks for the recommendations folks!

I've always been a big fan of Hell Night , partly because of my crush on Linda Blair at the time . It's a well crafted little tale with some nice set pieces and good set design . Plus a genuingly scary bad guy who is wisely kept in the shadows .
I met Linda in 2000 and spoke with her at length on the movie .
She really likes it and had great fun making it .
The dvd is well worth a purchase as it's the best looking print I have ever seen of the film .
It also features trailers and an entertaining commentary from Blair , the director and the producers .
An underrated gem .
