I loved this movie so much it is one of my favourite movies and it is one of the funnest horror movies ever, from the great and creepy opening credits to the really spooky death scenes and ending (after the credits) this movie was just great.
What i wanted to ask is why so much negative reviews, i have heard so much bad mouthing when it comes to this movie and i seriously dont think it is that bad.

I can understand why critics and general audiences didn't like this movie, but I myself really enjoyed it. The ending is absolutely retarded, but the rest is excellent and surprisingly bloody. The opening sequence reminded me of a movie from the late, great 80s. "House on Haunted Hill" is a fun and bloody flick in a sea of post-Scream sissy slashers.

I agree about its ending, It was really lame. Although some scenes were surprisingly disturbing, when it seems that most modern movies chicken out on the gore. It is worth a look.

I agree with you screamfan, this movie rocked and I didn't mind the ending... Actually, I just bought this movie for ONLY 1.95 at a big movie blowout sale... It was soooo cheap and the movie rocked, I couldn't pass it up... Before buying it I had only seen it once and that was when it first came out... I liked it the first time I saw it but I liked it even more the second time I saw it... I will say this, it's definatelt WAY better than the HAUNTING remake, which pretty much SUCKED...

I'll have to agree with the critics on this one... the movie had a few suspenseful moments, but bad acting, bad directing and a story used maybe a little too much. I thought it sucked.

I first saw it not long after watching the original Vincent Price 1958 version which I absolutley loved (I love all the old horror stuff with their "twist" endings and themes of retribution). I originally thought it was the gear up until the last 10 minutes. It had great visuals, great aural atmosphere, great story, great Geoffrey Rush (Go you Aussie battler), great Chris Kattan, great Fammke (don't get me started on Fammke, mmmmmm). But the ending sure did suck arse the first time around. Nowhere near the original.

My girlfriend and I rented it out again as soon as it hit the video shelves (I'd just read somewhere about the post credits scene) so I wanted to watch it just for that. My girlfriend and I talked about the ending, and she told me to look at the movie in it's own right, forget the original, look at it as just a haunted house movie. It worked, the last 10 minutes clicked and now the whole movie is officially a killer by me!

I liked it too. Compared to the 90's version of "The Haunting" it's brilliant.

I haven't seen the original but I'm a big fan of price so I had a blast watching Jeffery Rush doing his best imitating him. Famke Janssen is sexy as always and I was rooting for her all the time. Sometimes the movie was pretty stupid ( some characters just do their best to get lost ), but who cares? This movie shouldn't be taken THAT serious.

The movie's biggest mistake was putting Manson's "Sweet Dreams" on the Soundtrack. I love this song, but here it just doesn't fit. To me, "Haunted Hill" isn't a serious movie, why do they put in a serious song like that? I hated to hear this song in the movie, it made me throw my shoes on the screen.

But properbly I'm the only one that hated the movie because of this. The rest is very acceptable, miles above the "Haunting" remake. Pretty much the only Haunted House movie of the 90s that I liked. ( Amityville sequels, Haunting Remake all sucked )

I just didnt like the crappy "CGI ghost" thing, it was lame. But other than that, I loved it!! Rush rules!

A great haunted house movie. I haven't seen many! And a great cast as well. Watched it at the cinema - makes it so much better, but it's still a great party movie.

the BEST house movie...isn't the asylum's basement the coolest setting??
Also, great gore, psichological thrills and hot actresses (Ali Larter, Famke Janssen, Bridgette Wilson-Sampras...what else need we??)

I was not disapointed, even a bit surprised.
The cast was really perfect, gorgeous women, Jeffrey Comb, it's all right.
You have a few disturbing scenes and it is gory, good FX,too.
I did not like the last 15 minutes because it was a bit too - much.
I would have prefer a real killer and not the house.

Tsk, tsk. Sometimes we bring suffering upon ourselves!
As for "Haunted Hill", I really liked it. I was expecting it to suck after hearing all the bad reviews, but it surprised me. The cast was great (I loved Rush and Jansen as the bickering rich couple), and Chris Katten was funny as hell (more funny than he usually is on SNL).
Though I agree the CGI 'ghost thing' at the end took away from it.

I really liked it, though the endig did suck. But the best part imo is the scenes showing how the patients take over the asylum, those scenes are way creepy and just so very stylish.
