Has anyone else read the movie/celebrity news at IMDB.com? It's like a step up from the National Enquirer, filled with trashy gossip and stupid scoops from those infamous "close sources"?

What the hell? The Internet Movie Database is better than that...why do they use this service?

I think half of them is false with a little bit of "enhanced for your entertainment" crap.
Yet I still read it. so what. :o

It's there for "entertainment." You just can't talk it seriously.

Unfortunately, this usually dead-on site has a huge flaw in the "news" department. Not only are the articles often later "proven wrong" by actual sources (and in turn reported by IMDB with the same level of intensity as the original report. Example:

Day 1
Paul McCartney is Dead!

Day 2
Paul McCartney is NOT Dead as some reports have claimed!)

Also, I've found more than one glitch in facts (small, but the Third Harry Potter book did not have 734 pages...the FOURTH one did. Yeesh ;) ).

Sometimes they give good information, but other times I feel as though I am either reading a gossip column or the mindless crap that "movie-illiterate" people take movie-freaks to be interested in (Who gives if Julia Roberts goes by J. Ro...guess what...NOT THAT FUNNY, Julie)

Yeah, I noticed that its news section has had quite a bit of errors as well. Maybe they could get some pointers from Mike Sampson.
:D

Wait, wait, wait. Paul McCartney isn't dead? Damn! That's what I get for not checking that damn site two days in a row!

You know, is there a single person that takes IMDb's "Celebrity News" thing seriously? I know I don't! It's always just the same random crap about how Michael Jackson is in fits because his career has taken a nosedive (speaking of which, what's with that bad nosejob of his?), or Peter Jackson is jumping with joy because his career has finally taken off,or Russell Crowe is in barfights ... well, just for the hell of it. Nothing really interesting, just mildly amusing.

Well, those who are not able to resist the National Enquirer in the grocery store are probably pretty likely to take IMDB seriously. If you take it with a grain of salt, the news is rather informative about silly stuff, and a fun way to waste time.

Actually, if you read into the body of the story, these days (as often as not) the sources are the Enquirer or The Star.

I'm surprised they still haven't had a news article about how Michael & Latoya are the same person.

It's not a step up from the Enquirer unless you consider the Star to be a step up.. they seem to run a lot of stories that come from the Star. Imdb just prints stuff coming off a news gossip wire service which collects pure tabloid garbage from various sources in the UK and US. I don't know if there are any respectable news sources feeding into that service at all. I only know that if I see some piece of garbage printed in the UK Sun, I can be sure to see it the next day on imdb.com.
