It had to happen sooner or later. Jason X, the tenth installment in the undying Friday the 13th series puts the masked killer in the 25th century. After being frozen for hundreds of years, he is revived aboard a interstellar craft, where he calmly picks up a machete and goes about his usual work. It sounds like a fan geek's dream, but that doesn't negate the fact that it's a pretty stupid movie. To be honest, it's also kind of dull up till the last act, more on that in a minute. Director James Isaac opens the film with a stylish credit sequence and sets up the story in a fairly interesting way, at least for a slasher. There is even a cameo by cult favorite David Cronenburg. However, as it goes on, it's clear that he has no real sense of pacing, nor does he often demonstrate the ability to scare us. To be fair, that would be hard to do with such flimsy material. It doesn't help that there are a couple of groan-inducing bits regarding severed body parts.

The production values are just so-so, betraying its low-budget origins. I would have been much more forgiving in this area if treated to a good story, but it was not to be. The special effects are sometimes adequate, sometimes blatantly fake-looking. I wasn't expecting anything as good as Ridley Scott's Alien, but at the very least, they should have tried to make it swift and entertaining. The sixth, seventh, and eighth entries were fun to watch in a cheesy sort of way. They were pretty silly, but certainly diverting. Jason X is just plain bad. However, at least the third act picks up a bit, as an android crewmember apparently finishes the killer off--until he is revived as a cyborg. Still stupid, but more watchable.

Needless to say, the acting is mediocre at best, but what could these performers have done with such poor material? At least Kane Hodder, as Jason, seems to be enjoying himself. One cast member in particular is as awful as Carrot Top, but he is thankfully dispatched early on. Lexa Doig, as the heroine, has some appeal, but there wasn't much she could do here. Most of the other actors are ineffectual at best, annoying at worst. I guess most slasher movies will always suffer these faults to a degree. This one certainly doesn't miss an obligation: the door is left open for a sequel.

3/10.

Jason X

In Jason X we get plenty of Jason slicing and dicing horny teenagers, only this time it's in space. After a school group finds the frozen corpse of Jason, along with another unidentified female they bring them, aboard their ship. Once the female thaws out she warns them of what they brought on the ship. Jason thaws and all hell breaks loose.

Jason X is pure mindless entertainment. This is not a movie that is trying to win awards or reinvent the genre. It's just there to showcase the series' biggest draw, Jason Vorhees. This movie delivered exactly what I've come to expect from the series: bad plotting, crappy dialogue, annoying characters, gory deaths, and Jason Vorhees.

And by damn if I didn't enjoy every minute of it. This movie was fun...plain and simple. In a time when Michael Myers seems to be on life support, it's good to see that Jason is still a cut above.

Final Score

7/10

JASON X (2002)

Jason X manages to take a pretty ridiculous plot and have fun with it while injecting some new life into a series many feel should have been over a long time ago. It doesn't matter to me though, I'll keep seeing them as long as they keep coming. Jason X is a fun time, it's not some smart groundbreaking horror flick, it's as cheesy as they come yet manages to be a good time thanks to its tongue being firmly planted in its cheek.

The acting is decent at best and I can't imagine anyone expecting anything more from it. Afterall, this is a Jason flick, not American Beauty 2. Lexa Doig does a fine job and she's cute as a button, I loved seeing her take charge. She definitely is the most memorable out of all of the actors and the only character I actually really wanted to make it.

Overall, Jason X is just a fun time that will mainly be enjoyed by fans of the series or fans of "so bad they're good" flicks. It was a nice way to kill an hour and a half. I thought the part with the two female campers was very funny, probably my favorite part in the movie. I also enjoyed seeing the cyborg chick kicking ass. The effects were also surprisingly good considering its low budget. Basically, if you want to watch a bunch of hotties running around and see Jason do plenty of slicing and dicing then Jason X is for you, if not then I'd recommend skipping it.

Grade: 7/10 or B- or ***1/2 of *****

We must have opposing perceptions of what fun cheese is. To me, Jason X is fun cheese. You get cheese from the hysterical, over-the-top storyline, and you get fun from the moist death sequences, the slick directing, and the campy vibe. This entry and The New Blood clash with each other for obvious reasons, but with both films, the intention is the same...to entertain! Jim Isaac didn't bother with trying to make this a scary offering because that would have been implausible. He knew what the F13 fanbase craved – nudity, blood, and a "no bullshit" Jason. We got all of those components and more!

I'm gonna have to agree with Cyclonus here. A 3/10 sounds pretty accurate to me.

I simply don't understand all the praise this is getting from horror fans. I like cheesy, gory horror movies just as much as the next guy. I love the Evil Dead series, and Dead Alive. However, Jason X is just horrible.

It could be that I haven't seen many Jason flicks, and the ones I have seen, I hated.

This movie could have been good, mindless entertainment, but it fails on all levels. I wasn't expecting the acting or plot to be at least halfway decent, but I was expecting fun action scenes and ultra cool death scenes. Too bad. There's maybe like 2 kills in the movie that slightly amused me, but the rest is just the same old crap we've seen over and over.

This movie also doesn't know whether it's a horror film, an action movie, or a comedy. Too bad, because it falls flat on all three.

It's a entertaining movie. Not well acted or any of that just entertaining like most of the other films in this series. A 7/10 seems about right for entertaining me.

I got what I expected from this flick, a chessy, bloody, bad acting, good time. It was a fun movie, the virtual reality part with the two girls was hilarious. " We love pre-marital sex!!" Fun movie. I would give it a 7/10.

Jason X was entertaining from start to finish, sure the acting is overall pretty bad but throughout the whole Friday the 13th series it hasnt been very good with only a few exceptions

there was more gore than i expected, and when there was it was great, loads of the red stuff

the CGi was also good for most of the film, the only CGI that disappointed was the CGI versions of Jason, also the metal Jason looked a bit tacky but it was fun, dumb fun for the most part, but fun none the less

so for this film i wont rate it on acting, CGI or if it wasnt great scriptwise but on how fun it was and so it gets a

8/10

Not quite as bad as some of the other Friday the 13th movies. This one has some pretty cool visual effects (the colllision, absurd as it was, was pretty cool). And a couple of mildly clever and funny gags. Still, this is a pretty stupid movie and when it comes down to it, it's typical formaliac slasher stuff.

3/10, maybe a 4/10.

Jason X was a HORRIBLE movie. It's the same old trash we've seen from this shitty series for the past 20 years. Here's my review of Jason X.....and every other Jason movie.

Theres this crazy dead guy who kills horny teenagers, with all sorts of weapons, in all sorts of ways. His name is Jason Voorhees, and he's mad at everyone for killing his mother or something. The movies are all the same, acting bad, story bad, effects bad. The location and people sometimes change, the plot and outcome doesn't. They always kill him at the end, but they always leave it open to a sequel (Jasons "dead" body opens his eyes)

All in all Jason X was terrible inside and out, from the shitty predictable storyline, to the lame 3-D effects.

While watching a Friday The 13th movie, do a shot of vodka everytme someone falls down while running, you'll get drunk real fast!

Final Score: (1/10) or F

I love the Friday series and although Jason X is mildly entertaining at times it just didn't do it for me overall. Some cool kills, and average CGI, but Jason in space just doesn't feel like a true Friday movie. I'll give this one the same score I gave Freddy vs. Jason because they had a similar non Friday feel. The problem with both movies was that they didn't actually establish themselves as horror movies. Jason X ....is it horror...not really, is it sci-fi....not really, is it action....not really. Not that bad to watch, but you'll forget about it soon after.

Jason X 5/10
