Why in almost all movies and tv-series people wear shoes inside? Is it normal manner in u.s and u.k? I think it's goddam unconvincing when in some tv-series main character sprawls on the couch, wearing dirty sneakers!!

I know alot of families like that

My family, when I was growing up, was like that. Once the shoes went on, they pretty much stayed on until we went to bed. Since moving out, getting married to a woman that goes barefoot a lot, and having to pay to replace worn-out carpet, bare feet are the rule in our house now.

My family was just the opposite, my mom was kind of a clean freak and wearing shoes in the house was always discouraged. It carries over with me to this day, I don't wear shoes in my house. Even when guests come over I usually make them take their shoes off at the door. I think it is more common to wear shoes in the house, as opposed to not however.

We wear shoes. For the most part, we wear shoes all day. I lived in Korea for 2 years, and had to get used to taking my shoes off.

I've never worn shoes inside, and neither does anyone in my family, we're all just raised that way. I guess it's because we had a carpet?
It's always funny because if you are wearing shoes inside of my house, someone will immediately ask you "Where are you going?"
But yeah it always bothers me when I see a show where the characters are just relaxing at home in their sneakers?! "Psst! It'd be even more comfy if you took your shoes off and put your feet on the couch!"

Thanks for your accounts! :)
I live in the "Artic Circle" and here we always take shoes off, when we are inside...less cleaning that way I guess. ;)

I don't wear shoes in my house (less comfortable), but I do when visiting people.
P.S. Like your avatar, Ann-maj.
Addendum: I can't believe I wrote ''where,'' when I actually meant ''wear.'' I must be losing it.. :).

That's exactly my opinion. I think it's more comfortable to not wear shoes when I'm at home. But, when I'm at someone else's house I'm polite and keep my shoes on.

I guess if you live in a warm weather climate where it doesn't snow, it would be more common to wear them all the time. I'm from Iowa and you certainly don't want to be trackin dirt and snow on the carpet in winter. I used to get the "Where are you going?" comment from my mom whenever I wore shoes in the house too.:D

I've never paid a whole lot of attention to the "issue", but since you mentioned it...you're right, it is kind of weird. At least to us folks in the arctic circle it is. Where you from Ann-Maj, Sweden?

Then it's definitely not Sweden ;)
And, I'd believe that the person in question is a "she". If not, he has really weird parents.

Not Sweden, I've been there, but I don't live there. Right answer is Finland, and YES I know, it really isn't THAT Wonderland. Maybe I should change my profile now, when you know my dark secret. DAMN. :)

I never leave my house unless its to go to the movies, video store or the Gym, then I wear my shoes but when Im at home I take them off. Shoes track dirt from the outside all under your carpet, a pain in the ass to clean when your remodeling your house or carpeting.
This really seems to be stretching the boundaries of what you can rant about in thius forum. However I do go in my stocking feet at home and over my friends house when I know I'm going to be there for a while (more comfortable that way, and less dirt).

hmmm my 5 pence on this....
shoes are for the outside. inside, its bare feet all the way. nothing like a deep carpet and bare feet....
plus, this way, when ur lady wants to make love, u dont have to waste time taking your shoes off :D
i dont know, i guess i was raised to take my shoes off when inside. besides, it is a hell of a lot more comfortable.
this is the greatest topic ever. well 2nd,after the jerking off thread in best/worst/favourites.

I wear slippers around the house. As soon as I get home, I take the Pumas off and slip on the comfy as all hell slippers. I lounge like nobody's business.

I never understood why you would see TV characters wearing pants when they are at home. The first thing I do when I get home after taking off my shoes is to take off my pants.
Much more comfortable that way.

i hope thats pants in an american sense as in trousers. because if ur english, this would mean ur walking around with no underwear on. which, while we are all entitled to do as we will in our homes, would still be pretty bad when u opened the door and flapped into the wind... :D:D

I NEVER take my shoes off before I go to sleep . . . More comfortable I guess. Also b/c I HATE the feeling of bare socks on a wooden floor. I don't know why . . .
