Now ive seen my fair share of horroh movies..ive seen ripped off heads, stabbed eyes, a lower intestine that is trying to kill someone (thank you jackson) Ive seen it all..but the way that Joe Pesi and his brother dies in this movie may just be the most disturbing moment ive ever seen. The movie itself ik OK...great actors but a decent flick...but damn was that BRUTAL! Just the idea alone is messed up but the fact that Oliver Stone decided to show it all to you just makes it worse....
on a side note...whoever did the editing in this movie should go back to school...waaaaaayyyyyyyy too many angle changes with charectors not being in the right spots...maybe thats Stones fault...either way, it was mildly annoying....

Yeah I totally agree, the ending was harsh. One of the most painfull scenes I've ever had to watch. By the way, Martin Scorcese directed it, not Oliver Stone.

Yeah, she'd only been in the business for 30 years at that point.....

Aye, what was Stone... umm, Scorsese thinking?? After the terrible editing on Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and others, you'd think he'd stop working with her......... :p

if the ending shocked you why did you watch it so many times?
allthough your post is kind of funny i have to agree! the ending is a bit too much! they didn`t have to do that! it is one of the most BRUTAL scenes i`ve ever seen in a movie!
hollywood is starting to use profanity and violence tooooo much! i think any movies that are this brutal shouldn`t be made! or atleast cut scenes like this out! they`re very disturbing!
and what is it about profanity? are writers just running out of ideas for dialogue? not that profanity bothers me that much but they are using it WAAAAY too much!
profanity and violence don`t really make film any better!

Shouldn't be made? Wouldn't it be easier for you to just not watch them?
And profanity and violence don't necessarily make a movie better, but they can add a dose of realism, depending on the story. Do you think gangsters don't cuss and brutalize other people? This is a gangster movie. That's like saying they shouldn't have shown (or even made) Saving Private Ryan because the opening scene was too violent. It was a WAR movie. War is violent and bloody. If it offends you, don't watch it.
Buy videos from that place in Utah (Colorado?) that edits out the cursing, nudity and violence. But do it quick, before their asses are sued off, and they go out of business.

Sure the ending to Casino is brutal, but there have been much worse, albeit off the top of my head I cannot think of anything other than the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan, but that is such an obvious choice. Also, I almost gagged when I saw you refer to the director as Oliver Stone! Mostly because I worship the ground Scorsese walks on. I won't insult you because that is not what this is all about, now that would be rude the way Whiskeydrinker treated your post was laughable not the thread itself. Altogether, the enjoyment of the film is what is important. And I will agree with Grebdron that brutality and language is necessary in certain cases. Of course you can't have gangsters say "Well darn it all, he's a dog, I am going to tell him of my displeasure." Now wouldn't that just be silly?

jesus christ bite my freakin head off.
so I thought it was Stone and not Scorcese, thats not an insult to anyone.
saying ive seen the flick "15" times this week was a bit tounge n cheek...should I have to explain that?
I have ZERO problem with the brutal way Joe died..I was just stating how it may be one of the toughest moments ive seen in a movie.
I happen to enjoy the movie regardless of the fact that its not in my top 10.
I could care less what the editor did in the past, when I see Sharon Stone looking one way at one angel then looking down a split second later, more than a few times, I can comment on it.
For the record Goodfellas is a damn good movie...but I didnt care for Taxi Driver or Raging Bull....
so i quess this "post is highly laughable"

I agree it was a real brutal scene. But you have to say the little prick deserved it!
Great movie, when I first watched it thought it was kinda slow...still is. But the directing by my favourite director of all time makes up for it...plus the acting, soundtrack, script etc.
9/10

I would like to apologize Haddonfield, my intentions at first was to defend your post and I guess I kinda did the opposite. I meant no disrespect by it just so you know.
And yeah Bullet Tooth Tony, you are completely right, he deserved every bit of what he got, but I was still surprised when I first saw it so many years ago.

why are you so angry at that company in colorado/utah? and i like your choice of words... "before their asses are sued off" are you a lawyer? :D
look, you`re taking my post a bit to seriously! violence and profanity are used way too much in films. sure they put ratings on movies and people do have a choice but i think hollywood CAN DO better than cheap violence and worthless dialogue!
if you have no imagination your forced to resort to such things like petty violence and useless dialogue to fill gaps in your films! i mean really.... have an imagination!! it makes movies so much better!
buy hey, if you choose to fill your mind with garbage that certainly is your choice but as i stated i think hollywood can do better!

Casino is a true story, the movie would lose a lot of realism trying to censor it. Cussing and grotesque violence is a way of life for the mob, no way around it. This was an all around great film.

Nope, not a lawyer. Just looking forward to them being shut down.

Actually, what I said before was that language and violence can enhance some movies, depending on the story. But we can agree on some movies, also. I think without violence and special effects, John Woo wouldn't be able to make a movie, cause his movies damn sure don't have a story.

I don't make movies.;) But are you saying all violence? I don't think Saving Private Ryan used "petty" violence at all. I think it graphically showed the horrors of war. Whether you liked the movie or not, you must believe that that is what that kind of war looked like. (If you don't believe it, take it from me. I've been there.) But I don't think it used the violence gratuitously, or in replacement of a story. I think it was part of the story.

Occasionally, I like garbage. I laugh my ass of at South Park. But I also occasionally like art. And I think Hollywood does do better sometimes, and sometimes they don't. I happen to very much like Goodfellas, Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List. All three of which used language and/or violence to enhance their story. But I don't really like Casino, Face/off, Broken Arrow and the like, because I think they use language and/or violence instead of a story. I loved Casino when I saw it the first time. When it was called Goodfellas.;)

Okay, I can't believe Im hearing this. You see in the REAL world things aren't so pretty and nice. Things like this really DO happen and movies illustrate that very well. I think it's moronic to PRETEND that people DON'T do these things and people DON'T talk a certain way. I seriously just cannot stand people who want to cut out or take away vital scenes to films. I hope and pray to God that those Mormon bastards in Utah, get their asses sued off for tampering with a Director's vision. It's just flat out stupid. By the way be a man and have some balls don't be such a girl about things. ' Oh that's too violent! Oh it's brutal! OH! OH!' Geez, it's just a movie!

mormon bastards? is this the best you can do? are you saying that you think a director`s opinion holds more value than a mormon`s opinion? do you worship directors? i personally think directors are capable of making BETTER films! one`s that don`t include so much violence and profanity... apparently you think i`m wrong?
and who the hell are you to judge me!!!! i`ve seen more violence in real life then you`ll ever see watching movies!!!
besides i find it absolutely hillarious that you think movies can make you a man! what kind of logic is this? most films are fictional! didn`t you know that... don`t act like an idiot okay!

i don`t disagree with this... some films like SPR require violent scenes. and this doesn`t really bother me. i`m referring to films that "really" don`t need it to be good movies and i think CASINO is a great example. it`s almost like movie makers just put in violence just for the sake of putting it in? was their any real reason to show such a graphic scene at the end of this movie? did it make the film any better? i don`t think it did!
but take a film like Scarface for example--- i think the profanity used by Tony Montana fit most of the scenes rather well! so this is an example where i think profanity fit the movie.
but take a movie like my cousin vinni- the profanity didn`t fit the movie or the characters at all! it`s like they just put it in for no "REAL" reason! i just think they need to tone it down a little that`s all!

The only thing I didn't like about the ending of Casino was how Joe pesci is doing a voice over and then suddenly goes "Ugh" as he's hit - then it suddenly stops.
Still I do like the ending. After my first viewing I was just hoping he would get it in the end. It was definetely brutal but I wasn't offended or sickened by it.

Okay obviously you missed my point ENTIRELY. The story which Casino is based on is TRUE. It really DID happen. That's why it was in the movie. BECAUSE IT REALLY HAPPENED. Go back to the temple.

Ladies, please.
JSwinger, unecessary.
Moviejunkie, it's just a movie.
Swinger has a point, in a very strange way. Movies aren't fun and enjoying to watch if they don't have some sort of reality to them. Like violence and language.
Take Resevior Dogs. Could you imagine that being a PG movie?
One of the best scenes in that movie is when Tim Roth's character is lying in a pool of his own blood, cussing out a cop tied to a chair, becuase the cop is in a little pain.
It's one of the most compeling scenes I've ever seen in a movie. Now imagine Tim Roth saying, "Screw, you! I'm dying!" and not seeing any blood. Not believable at all.
Now Haddonfield, I'm sorry for getting off the topic, but these guys needed to be seperated.
Sorry.
!the_sneaker!
The way in which the real Nicky Santoro was tortured and killed by the mob in real life was 100's more violent and merciless than shown in the film. Was it necessary to show the violent way people of this nature meet their demise at the hands of close friends? I think so. People like to root for Joe Pesci, and that's understandable because as an acting presence he has mega-charisma. But the person who's life he was portraying, was like he said in the movie, "Just asking to be made an example of." When you watch movies about sociopaths, be prepared and understand, the way these people lived and died was not unexpected to them. That is what is so chilling.

It wasn't THAT brutal...
American History X's "curb scene" was worse.

Very well said! I love Scorsese, but, what was he thinking? I mean, basically just shifting the setting to Vegas, using the SAME TWO LEADS...baffling.
Only 6 years after "Goodfellas", to boot. *scratches head*
I enjoyed "Casino" very much. I thought it was wonderfully directed, natch. Marty's a true innovator...but, damn, I kept thinking..."Goodfellas WEST"
