She's cute enough, but pretty much milquetoast. Not sexy, not a great actress, not great looking. Just pretty much a girl next door type.

Continuing the mini-tradition in which Grebdron and I agree on nearly everything but women (he knows this, but I will state for the Court's benefit, that I would walk on broken glass for Charlize Theron...).
Katie is cute, but she's pretty damned sexy, too. Her quiet confidence is a major turn-on for me.
Also, when she's given good material to work with (Wonder Boys), she's fabulous. She has a good career in front of her.

I agree. Kevin Williamson always says she'll win an Oscar someday, and I second that prediction. The babe's got a great career on her hands.

I have no problem with Katie Holmes. She's cute. But, my own girlfriend is cuter. She's nothing more than average. But hey, at least she's not trashy like so many other women. That's points right there.;)

Given the right material, I think she can be great, though most of her work has been adequate (haven't seen Wonderboys). She's damn fine though

Katie Holmes destined to win an Oscar?! She is a mediocre actress at best, and I have not really seen her play more than one type of role. I liked her on the first season of "Dawsons Creek" but being able to play a character people can relate to, and knocking people's socks off with your talent, are two entirely separate things.

If she would be consistant in picking better roles, I think people would have more confidence in her. Maybe "Phone Booth" will get her on the right track.

I fancied the arse off of Katie Holmes in Dawson's Creek & I thought she had a promising career in movies after witnessing The Ice Storm, Go & Wonder Boys. However, I lost total respect after she got er tits out for the lads in The Gift.
After all, she's Joey, the young & innocent love interest of Dawson Leary.
p.s. Teaching Mrs Tingle was also a big pile of shit!

And she really doesn't have any.
In everything she's done I've always seen her to be stiff and rather wooden in her delivery, and that includes "Dawson's Creek".
I always see her as someone playing bad pretend, instead of acting. Her accent couldn't have been anymore worse in "The Gift", and yeah, I agree about her exposing breasts in that movie but for different reasons.
All these starlets who play nice people on TV all think they gotta flash skin to show their "range". HELLO! Look what happened to Lisa Bonet after ANGEL HEART ladies!
Show some talent first, then skin.

I can't comment on her acting because nothing she's appeared in yet has looked appealing to me. So, speaking strictly from an attractiveness standpoint...I'm 'bout it. Personally, I tend to go for the "I'm an actual human being" look. Katie Holmes looks like someone you'd see at the store, or at a bar, or on the street or something. She's at the high end of the "real life" spectrum, meaning there's a chance I could meet someone who looks like her and actually be able to talk to her. Celebrities like Pamela Anderson don't look like real people. You're never going to run into Pamela Anderson and even if you did, are you going to feel comfortable talking to her? She's obviously way too concerned with her looks to be an interesting person....Rereading my post now I think I've just learned two things about myself. I need to stop being so judgemental about people I don't know, and I need to stop living in a fantasy world where I get to meet celebrities like Katie Holmes and Pamela Anderson.

In my opinion I think she's pretty decent as an actress. She isn't THAT great but she's better than some of the other younger actresses that are getting so much praise lately (Penelope Cruz for example). I hope she'll be good in her films in the future.:)

i can't believe i didn't see this topic till now! okay, well, Katie Holmes... I adore her! i think she is sexy as hell, i don't really know why but she has this girl next door look and at the same time so beautifull. she looks good anywhere w/ anything on. As an actress I'm one of those who think she'll go on to win an oscar, i mean, many will disagree w/ me but, i think she has been very smart w/ many of her roles. Starting out w/ the critically aclaimed The Ice Storm she has been very selective w/ her work and her roles. To tell you the truth I got to know who she was with Go(one of my all time fav. movies) and after that i started to see the rest of her movies. Other than great movies like Go and The Ice Storm, she was in Wonder Boys and The Gift. Her acting in this last 2 impressed me, she was so natural and actually stood out considering she worked opposite actors like Michael Douglas, Tobey Maguire, Cate Blanchet, Hillary Swank and Giovany Ribissi. Even in not so good movies she has done really good like in Teaching Mrs. Tingle and Disturbing Behavior. But her role in Abandon impressed me the most, 'cause even though the movie is not perfent and yeah, quite boring, she did and excellent job and i await promising future roles. Talking about the future, she has already 3 movies made coming out next year: The Singing Detective, Pieces of April and Phone Booth. All three already recieving glowing reviews and packed with talent. The Singing Detective starts Mel Gibson, Robin W. Penn and Robert Downey Jr. Pieces of April she costars w/ the upcoming Antwone Fisher actor. And well Phone Booth you all know. So just expect alot of Katie in the future.

I'm terrified of her playing Christine in the film version of Phantom of the Opera but I liked her in 'Go'. She was very good in it. She had a nice mix of attitude and vulnerability that was appealing and showed that as an actress, she has potential. And she's cute as a button.

She's not doing First Daughter instead of POTO becuase that wouldn't start filming until September and I'm sure First Daughter would be done by then.

Same here. She's cute and one of my most favorite actresses. I enjoyed her in Dawson's Creek and Teaching Mrs. Tingle.
Anyway, she's going to be in a new Batman movie Batman Begins (2005).

Well, as an avid Dawson's Creek fan, I have to say that I like her. However, in movies she seems to be hit or miss.
She is cute, and I think a good choice for First Daughter.

I've been watching season 4 of Dawson's Creek on DVD and I just LOVE this woman SO much!
When is she going to realize that she's engaged to the wrong guy and dump Chris Klein for me! :D
