Don't know about you guys but I am really looking forward to the fifth installment to the Mortal Kombat series: Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Coming out on November 22nd (and in the UK Dec. 6th) this is looking to be the gorest and most down right brutal game ever.

There is a total of 21 characters to choose from:

To gain hidden characters to go to a section in the game called the Krypt where you buy Hidden characters, stages and new outfits for your fighters.
I cannot wait for this game to come out and by looking at the game you can really see why.

There are screenshots with for this game and nearly every website, i would give you the screens but i dunno how (yeah me a dumbass).

The UK release date has been delayed from Dec. 6th 2002 to Feb. 2003 (sucks doesn't it). But US guys never fear, you still get it on Nov. 22nd 2002 (lucky gits).

I'm not a huge fan of the MORTAL KOMBAT series, but I might get this one...depends on how much money I still have after buying thousands of gifts for my to-be girlfriend for Christmas. ;)

I am not a huge fighting game fan,
as after awhile, they can become
boring, and repetitive, BUT......
This game rocks the fighting arena hard.
And also because MK, is the only series,
that I will ever buy.
The rest of the games out there,
in this genre for some reason do
nothing for me.

I have rented this game, and after playing
through half of it, I decided to slap down
some cash and buy it flat out, with extra
controller of course.

On to the review.


Now the learning curve is on the slight
difficulty side, so your best bet is
to go through the Konquest mode
first, to learn all of your moves,
and how to master them.

Upon playing on the easy difficulty,
(hey, I don't like getting my butt handed
to me) the first 3 matches will be a piece
of cake, however, after those 3 are over with,
even on the easy difficulty, prepare to
continue like there is no tomorrow.
I like to think, that the A.I. in the game
adapts to your style.
Expect to be taking in alot of cheap shots,
by your foes. They love backing you in the corner.
Make sure to master the reversal move.

If you love your gore in MK, well
you'll be in heaven here.
Blood stays on the floor,
and we are not talking about just
little splotches, but globs of it.
The characters, should they win,
will be seen, with gashes in their faces,
and bruised beyond all recognition.

The Krypt, is where you buy new costumes,
characters, arenas, as well as concept art,
and promo pics from all of the MK series.
But be warned, you will find yourself getting
the useless promo pics more, then new characters,
clothing, and arenas.

Fatalities, are pretty impressive,
but there are no hints whatsoever
on how you can pull them off yourself.
So it's trial and error on that part.

Use of the weapons is cool,
but Mavados, seems a tad weird
to use.

Kenshi is my favorite character to use,
and his Katana, is awesome in battle.
With some characters you are able to
thrust their weapon during the fight
right into the guts of your adversary,
which drains them of their health,
but they will still fight back, till
they die.

The frame rate is fine as is,
and there is no hint of slowdown.
The Character animations seem
a tad weird looking, especially
Johnny Cages, and Sonya.
The arenas are spectacular,
and some will provide obstacles,
such as Acid that spits out, and
drains some of your life line.

This review is of the X-Box version,
so there may be some differances
between systems.

All in all, I give MK - DA a 9.5 out of 10.

I had heard that there is only one fatality per character. I'm disappointed they couldn't have included more, since they got rid of friendships, babalities and all that other crap. If this is true, I will probably wait to get it until the price comes down.

I just rented MK:DA last night...I played it from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m....then woke up and played it some more later on...clocked in about 8 hours....and the funny thing is..I deleted the game file...I had so much done in the game...but oh well I say...I can do it all again.......cuz this game is the shiznitz

Well, I bought the game on Friday and here is my small review...

Gameplay: The gameplay is awesome, you can switch fighting styles (3 of them) I like the fighting, combos are pretty cool! very GORY!

Fatalities: I was a little disappointed, there were no PIT fatalities! Stage fatalities, Weapon fatalities! only 1 fatality! and they suck! :mad:

but overall the game is pretty sweet! Scorpion all the way!!! :p

The only thing I hate so much about the Konquest mode,
is when you have to do the Chain Link Combos.

Where you have to press for example A A B L B <~ Y

Those who have played it, know what I'm talking about.

Sometimes, my reactions in pressing the buttons,
are so slow, that I have to redo the rat blasted
thing countless times. Urggg.

Other then that, I really like the game.

I'm awesome with Kenshi.

To bad, they didn't include Internet play.

Maybe the next one? I hope so.

I've been having a blast playing this game on my PS2, but I have a question...just how in the Hell do you beat Moloch???

I've tried using Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Kung Lao and Frost, but none of them can do enough damage to finish him off. Do I just need to do constant combos, or is there a trick to it?

moloch for me is indeed THE hardest damn dude to fight....takes me 10-12 times each time to finally beat him...sonya and kung lao are the 2 i beat him with usually either one of them....let him swing 2 times at you then go wild on him with the weapon then block again 2 times and so forth is what i do....how the hell do you get the characters such as frost,rayden,liu kang etc.????konquest mode????

You get all the extra characters by buying them in the krypt. There are numerous web pages out there (like gamefaqs.com) that tell you what each of the 600+ coffins in the Krypt have in them; you just have to save up enough money to get them.

Oh, and Liu Kang is dead in this one, so you can't get him anyway...as far as I know right now, anyway.

Yeah, the key to beating Moloch is fast, continuos combos. Once you get an opening, you can hit him multiple times if you're fast enough. Usually, I can accomplish this as Kung Lao or Frost.

I got the game for Christmas, and it's damn sweet so far. Some of the long combos in Konquest mode are tough! Primarily the ones in which you must switch your style and still continue the combo...

Cool game, though.

I got the game for Christmas and still haven't beaten it. I get fed up with godly Moloch (though I really don't fight him much). I like fighting regular characters. I'm good with Kenshi, Frost and Sub-Zero. I actually did beat Moloch one round with Frost, but then he went all GODLY on my ass and I couldn't get a single hit in.

The only characters I've unlocked are Frost, Jax, and Kitana...Frost is the cheapest at only 200-something Ruby's while everyone else is like 3000+ Jade, Sapphire, Ruby, Gold, etc.

I love how your face gets more and more bruised and bloodied as you take more hits. I remember I had a good match against Sonya and we both won one round each and both were close to winning and she finally won and the camera zoomed in and she kicked it back and then the camera zoomed back in and she did a little "yeah" like she was all bad and shit. I couldn't help but say to myself...but look at your face bitch, it's all fucked up! :D

Since my last post I've unlocked Raiden and Nitara.

I must say, I'm not too fond of Nitara (I should've unlocked Reptile with the money, but spent it on her). Weak special moves, weak fatality, and clunky combos. She won't be back for another MK...if they make MK6.

Dude, how can you not love Nitara?! To each his own, but I think she's easily the best new character in the game. I'm surprised they haven't done a vampire character up to this point, but to make it female was a stroke of genius. And the neck-bite movie where she saps her opponent's strength and regains some of her own?! Sheer brilliance!! I really do enjoy Nitara and Kenshi as far as new characters go. Bo Rai Cho is by the far the worst character...not only in the game, but in the overall series. He makes Kabal and Stryker from III look like friggin' Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee!! It should say something about a character whose feature move is to throw up. This guy lost his novelty about 3 minutes after I started playing him. Very uncool. I was actually disappointed in Reptile. What have they done to this poor guy? He used to be so cool looking, now he just looks like a dweeb (Like something out of a Spider-Man comic/movie). The arenas are spectacular...some of the best ever even if there are not stage fatalities (That we know of).
I've unlocked all characters, alternate outfits and arenas. I've also conquered Konquest and I've only had the game 2 weeks (It wasn't as easy as it sounds though). I've got almost enough Koins to buy the remaining items for sapphire, jade, ruby and gold. I'm about 4,000 Koins short on both onyx and platinum. Does anyone know if they reward you for wiping out the Krypt?
Granted, there's a lot of worthless krap in there...am I wasting my time trying to klear it out even though I've already got all of the good stuff?

Yeah almost every player does that, but when Scorpion does it, it cool really ace! :cool:

I think the best new character is either Li Mei or Kenshi, so far.

I can get some pretty "kick ass" combos from Li Mei and Kenshi has the cool telekenetic power (I'd love to have that kind of power). However Li Mei's fatality is weak, but Kenshi's is pretty cool (one of the better ones).

Speaking of which, I think that is the weakest element of an over-all great game. A big part of why I love Mortal Kombat is the fatalities and first of all, we only get one :( when we're used to at least two and second, most of them are corny as shit. Ironically, I think both Frost and Sub-Zero have the best fatalities (Frost's deep-freeze shatter, and Sub-Zero's skeletal rip).

Overall, MK5 is a great game, they present MK in 3D very well in this game (a big improvement over MK4's sucky "3D" environment) and I like the new fighting styles and the better way of incorporating weapons into the game. The only thing they need to improve (which I thought was already great but went down in quality in this game) are the fatalities.

Bring back the pit and since the acid bath was back, I thought we'd be able to knock the character into it like in MK2...but nothing. :(

I've unlocked Reptile and Hsu Hao. I've also unlocked a few arena's (Moloch's Lair, Nethership, and House of Pekara) I've also unlocked a few alternate outfits (Johnny Cage's, Bo Rai Cho's and Sonya's).

I don't play that much as probably some of you, so that's why I only have a few of the friggin hundreds of coffins (most of which is shit, I hear). that's why first and foremost I'm unlocking all the good shit (characters, arena's and outfits).

I'll admit that I may have spent a little more time than I would have liked trying to unlock every koffin in the krypt. The Other, you have the right idea. Go after characters, then alternate outfits and arenas first. That's what I did. I just got greedy and wanted everything. There is so much worthless stuff in the krypt it's not even funny. So many production photos of technical people (though I appreciate their hard work) that we can just do without. I agree on the fatalities...there wasn't enough and mostly what's there isn't impressive. Quan Chi and Cyrax's respective finishers border on the absolute impossible and that takes alot away from the game. When a character's trademark moves and styles are incorporated into the fatality, it pays off in a big way (Raiden, Frost, Reptile and Shang Tsung most notably) without going too far off the page. Overall, this is the best MK yet based on the sheer volume of characters, arenas and a pretty wicked plot. The endings range from awesome (Raiden) to funny (Cage) to average (Sub-Zero) to depressing (Scorpion and Li Mei) even to completely unacceptable (Quan Chi's is easily the worst and most impossible ending of any MK game). Now that I've conquered konquest and cleared the krypt, I can finally play the game the way it was meant to be played (Not worry about pulling off insane multiple combos and saving up an unGodly amount of koins). Considering everything, kudos to Ed Boon & The Gang and I look forward to MK VI...if they proceed in the right direction.

I loved this game from the minute I put it in. The battle arenas are cool. The Krypt makes it easy to buy and unlock new arenas, costumes and characters. Moloch was the bane of my existence for about a day. Then I beat him. The first ending I unlocked of course was my favorite, Scorpion. Scorpion defeats Moloch with just a little effort, especially if you switch combinations and use that sword often. The baseball swing (Z button) is a sidestep/hit that does a decent job of damaging him. But don't just use it. Use the other combos often. Swing up and down with combos as often as you can. Raiden's staff also jacks him up quickly, as do shocks. The one hand grab works. Use it right away, then hit him with that staff as much as possible. The original characters are so improved in this game, it isn't even funny. Raiden gets my nod for most improved. Sub-Zero is also cool, but not nearly as cool as Scorpion and Raiden. Within about a week, I had unlocked everyone except for Mokap and Blaze. While on my Christmas vacation, I all but cleaned out the Krypt. I bought anything with a value of 2000 Koins or higher. Anything else waited except for IV (Ice Vixen, for those of you looking for Frost). My favorite new character is Nitara. She has decent moves, cool costumes and a killer ending. In my own opinion, she is the best new character. I hate Bo Rai Cho. His moves are sad. His costumes are awful. His barf and fart moves are downright immature. He can't compare to the moves of the other characters. Distant seconds in the suck department are Drahmin (weak moves), Mokap (Motion Kapture guy? Please!) and Mavado (Inspector Gadget, I presume). Kitana is cool. Kung Lao makes some good moves. He also has cool costumes and a great ending. Jax is pretty cool. Love that two fist beating he does. My favorite arenas are the Lava Shrine, Sarna Ruins and the Dragonfly. My only objections to any of these arenas are the acid in the acid pit and the screams at Shang Tsung's palace. Other than that, they are all pretty awesome. Konquest wasn't too bad to beat. It just took some patience. I'm looking forward to MK6, with a newly transformed Drahmin, new Dragon King Reptile, and of course the cast of characters that may (or may not) make their return to the next game. This is far and away my favorite version of MK.

Well I got a hold of this game and all I can say is that gamers are easily pleased if this is what grabs them by the short & curlies these days. Although briefly enjoyable (very briefly) the game soon reveals itself to have much less depth than either Tekken 4 or Virtua Fighter 4. Even graphically it fails to come anywhere near these two masterpieces. Hell, i'd take Marvel Vs Capcom 2 or King of the Fighters 2000 over this. It's not totally awful...just almost totally awful. Bear in mind that i've never been a fan of the shallow Mortal Kombat series.

Finally, I got this thing and i must say I was blown away. I've been on it for a bit but not as much as me little bro he worships the damn series. Madness. Anyways, I have to say I love the new guy Mavado and Kano has always been my favourite (along with Baraka). Frost is cool (no pun intended) as well, what I loved the most was when you stick your weapons into the opponment's chest or legs. Sheer brillance.
So far, I have Frost and Kitana (like I said, I aint on it much) but I've got some other stuff. My favourite item has to be "Cooking with Scorpion" I laughed me head off with Scorpion twirling his axe round and winking. Funny stuff.
Man, is it gory. Loads and loads of the stuff, reminds me of evil dead - so gory its down right daft. But cool as well. I love it, awesome, brilliant.
